I RAN IN HERE. The Legend, The Greatest, my man from Texas, SRV...WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER! Take this Journey...Texas Flood next! RIP SRV...miss you each and ever day. FACT: the guitar he’s playing is his favorite, named Lenny after his wife. Has 12 gauge wires, with e being 13 gauge. If you see him switch out Lenny, its because he broke wires.

How do you play 12s when the high e is 13? I dont believe he bought 12 gauge sets and tossed the high e and switched in a 13, methinks he played 13s, full stop i have 11 flat wounds on my Les Paul right now, and am gonna be happy to get back to 10s. U have to have crazy strong fingers to play just an 11 heavy set. i got the flat wounds for some Jazz tracks i was recording, but i'd not use them for rock..too hard to get full or one and a half step bends.

When you watch a great virtuoso play their instrument, you can see that they know everything about that instrument, how it reacts, what it's capable of doing. You can see it with Stevie Ray. He absolutely dominates his guitar.

I LOVED your reaction...and wasn’t surprised. This was off Austin City Limits and was Stevie coming home after getting the demon cocaine and liquor out of his life. You want to get REALLY blown away? Buy the Austin City Limits DVD (from PBS). That entire SHOW was lights out - Stevie (and Tommy Shannon, his bass player) were newly clean and sober and you can literally HEAR the joy in their hearts in their music.

I must agree with Texas Magnolia that “Texas Flood” should be next. The best version, I think, is his live performance of it at the El Mocambo. If you want a shorter version, his performance of it at the Celebration for Blues produced by ‘Shout Factory’ would suffice. I love your open mind and your reactions. Keep your ears on, little brother.

Stevie Ray Vaughn was one of a kind, like Jimi Hendricks. Stevie was taken from us in the 90's and died in a plane crash at the height of his career. Thankfully, we have the videos that prove he was skilled beyond belief as a true artist, the likes of which we will probably not see again. RIP Stevie.
