Steve Ray Vaughan Voodoo child live reaction!
This was something to behold. It was as if Jimi Hendrix reincarnated. This guy is something. He blew my mind! i am lost for superlatives to describe him and his performance on the guitar. He is not a bad blues singer either.
I found the song a bit spooky with the message, if i don't see you here,i'll see you on the other side.He then sings don't be late.
Sadly he and Hendrix both sang the same lines.I think they're jamming together now.Enjoy this Steve Ray Vaughn reaction.

Let's not forget he's bending 13 gauge strings like they were made of thread. You need two more songs to determine his place among guitarists? Texas Flood, and Little Wing from the El Mocambo, 1983. When you done with those, then hear everything else he ever did.

I've been a musician since 1977 and have heard all of the greats. Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson, etc. They're all insanely talented. But, in my opinion, I do not know of anyone who can do with a guitar (or any other instrument) what he can do or utterly dominate any instrument to the level that he does a with guitar. In terms of the great drummers, singers, groups, etc. where it's so hard to separate one from the pack, to me, Stevie is on a totally different level than his peers. Again, no other guitarist can do the total combination of things he can do at the highest level possible (emotion, speed, technical ability, never plays the same song the same way twice, can make the guitar sound any way he wants to convey his musical interpretation, never been able to read music, can even play like a total beast literally behind his back, ect., etc., etc.). No one has that combination. Not even close. The music just flows from him. Some great videos to get a good feel of his level of talent that would be great to see you react to would be a version of "Voodoo Child" at a Nashville concert in 1983 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pe3G7p1Z-xU.html . Three other songs from probably the best concert he ever performed at a music venue in Toronto called El Mocambo also in 1983 - "Little Wing" (another Jimi cover) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i6G53BMgugo.html , "Texas Flood" (Stevie original) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KC5H9P4F5Uk.html , and "Lenny" (Stevie original, a song he wrote for his wife) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i5sqJNFFwqc.html . You did an incredible job in this reaction and I really look forward to seeing Stevie reactions to these other song. God bless!

Stevie Ray loved Jimi Hendrix. In an interview in 1985, he said: “I love Hendrix’s music and I just feel it’s important for people to hear him. I know if I take care of his music that it will take care of me. I treat it with respect-not as a burden. See, I still listen to Hendrix all the time, and I doubt I’ll ever quit."

Truth. There's a story about Stevie going ballistic on a promoter because when he showed up to the gig BB King was playing. He asked the promoter what was going on and he was told that BB King is the opening act. This was a tremendous injustice to Stevie. Stevie didn't care that his band was the hot band at the time selling millions of dollars of records. He thought that they should be opening for BB King. He valued his heroes and honored them.

Etta James absolutely loved him. I mean, loved the guy. Wrote about him in her autobiography. "Baddest of all the white boys," is what she called him. She went on to say, "He may have been white, but that boy was born with a black soul." Said growing up in abject poverty and in a black neighborhood, that was what he identified with. That's what he knew. It's who he was. You have to figure, Etta James knew what she was talking about. She was a legend in her own right.

Mary- I love this. its a beautiful beautiful quote...you brought tears. Comparisons have never brought grace...they both deserve to be so highly honored, as they honored.... music, and clearly each other. ... I was lucky enough to briefly meet met SRV, in 1983. He stopped at my Dads jewelry business (handmade by Dad/he bought a nice ring for show -he was very happy about it..was wearing it that night --#Keystone- i was too young, for that venue..but have always known good noise when I heard it/extended family in music-RIP most special man, Tim Bogert) Tim loved his life, and felt honored to be able to give, and do what he did. hugs- go see a live show :)

I was blessed to see him perform 10 times. Omg it was a spiritual experience - no exageration. Texas Flood at El Mocombo may be the all time best electric blues performance ever. Watch it and think how many blues licks does this guy do. The blues just blasts out from him. This performance of Voodoo Child is laid back. The Nashville show is the other extreme. Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar playing is heavily influenced by the blues, even in this song which makes it quite unique in itself. I have seen him play live in local clubs where I live. He was not commercially successful like Led Zepplin or other top bands. He had a sort of niche following...he was appreciated most by guitar lovers and enthusiasts.

In my opinion, Stevie Ray is the best. That is not meant to minimize the talent of Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton or any other fantastic guitarists. Stevie Ray played from the depths of his soul. SRV adds his own style to this song while remaining true to Hendrix. Stevie was a fan of Hendrix and "studied" his guitar work. You will notice he uses some of Jimi's tricks. I don't think there is one greatest guitarist. We've been blessed in this way.

It’ll always be SRV for me Harri. That said, you put it perfectly that guitar is art and all opinions are valid and most welcome. Jimi was no doubt more brilliant as a writer/composer, and he is the one who pushed the limits of technique. There’s a reason that Jimi was one of SRV’s great heroes. In any event, I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction and thoughts. Also - if truly interested, watch SRV play this same song in Nashville. I’ve never seen anything remotely like it. When SRV was still Stevie Vaughan he played Hendrix in his sets fairly often. He was on the blues scene but he was considered a hot rod guitarist, less bluesman than his big brother for sure. Stevie was not afraid of excess, Jimmie played with restraint. When he became Stevie Ray Vaughan, he didn't do Hendrix as much, he was worried it was disrespectful and he also didn't want to be a Hendrix act. Other guys did (and do) Hendrix more note-for-note than Stevie did, but Stevie _explored_ and _built on_ Hendrix like nobody else; it wasn't SRV simply doing Hendrix. Hendrix blew his mind just like Jimi did to everybody, but to Stevie it was something he could pay homage to, to celebrate that music with. Stevie had a wah-wah that was Hendrix's, but it was really his brother Jimmie that knew Hendrix personally to any extent; Stevie wasn't quite 16 when Jimi Hendrix died but Jimmie Vaughan was 19 and already a star. When SRV played a Hendrix song, SRV felt that Hendrix was _moving through him_ as if Stevie was just a vessel holding Hendrix's influence, an instrument of Hendrix that the music was forced through. Stevie was pretty spiritual. When he played 3rd Stone from the Sun, you were on a cosmic journey, just like Hendrix took you on. Who can say Stevie was wrong? Stevie probably felt a great connection to this song,: when he played Voodoo Child (slight return) he damn well chopped down moutains with the edge of his hand and then picked up the pieces and built strange fantastic islands of his own.

I say these are the next 2 for you to react to. For me he's number 1 The way that I look at it Jimi was the innovator and Stevie with all respect given to Jimi took the z Jimi sounds and made it much cleaner, sure technology has something to do with that BUT Stevie used Jimi's WAH pedal(the actual one) live on stage every night. So really where did the progress come from.

Your words were so true about him and his playing. I don't know if you have read anything about Stevie Ray, but if you could you would read how from beginning to end he never gave up on his ability to keep doing his best. But life doesn't give us any true meaning we make our own choices but Stevie Ray didn't make the choice for his untimely death and the greatest loss to the music world. Living in Austin we all knew that Stevie had made a deal with the Devil. No one knows if that’s what made or separated him from the others. Nobody knows? All that we know is what the Devil received out of the deal. What Stevie received is unclear but the Devil got guitar lessons.

One of his weakest performances...didn’t break a string and switch guitars in midsong without missing a beat...didn’t repair his guitar midsong and kept on playing...didn’t even play it behind his back. Stevie mailed it in on this one.

Jimmie Vaughan gave a tape to Jimi at woodstock. After the gig he watched the tape. And gave it back the next day and said you tell your brother he plays the guitar better then me. Stevie was freakun' out. The wah wah petal that Stevie was usein belonged to Jimi Hendrix. His father gave it to Stevie Ray. He had 3 thing's in his Wallet drivers licent a pic of jimmi and his Autograph. Tbats all he carried in his wallet till the day my brother died. He was 36 when he died. I miss em every single day. We where close we where like twins. ❤❤ He taught me everything I know. I still puck to this day fir Stevie. ❤❤ Stevie Ray is my NO# 1. AND ALWATS WILL BE. ❤❤

To answer your question - who is the best guitarist? It is subjective. Part technical ability, part emotionality, part musicianship, part influence. Then on top of that is style and genre. Here are my fav "of all time" grouped by if I experienced live. Fav guitarists I've seen perform live: 1. Stevie Ray Vaughan (RIP) 2. Steve Howe (Yes) 3. Michael Hedges (RIP) 4. Santana 5. Alvin Lee (RIP) 6. Joe Satriani 7. Roy Buchanon (RIP) 8. Eric Johnson 9. Jeff Beck 10. Larry Carlton Guitarists I haven't seen perform live (yet) 1. Jimi (RIP) 2. BucketHead (trust me - a deep rabbit hole...) 3. David Gilmour 4. Jimmy Page 5. Ritchie Blackmore

So SRV played always with .13 strings on that 1961 fender... Still tore them up.broke a few most nights.. Thickest strings made.. played average 1 hour..Self taught. That performance was a Jimi Hendrix tribute. Who was also self taught, left handed, had to learn to turn his new guitar upside-down. Could not play more than a few songs on .08 strings without being in pain. I loved them both.

I've seen this man 3-4 times (and had plans to see him again, a month or so after he died in that helicopter crash 😢) Seeing him in real life... whatever he did, it was so effortlessly - there's NO OTHER way to explain it. I can kind of relate to his style - I just wing it... and so does HE. But he made it look AND sound so good! We miss him here in Mesa, AZ 🌵❤️🥰💔

Man my top 3 guitarists are Stevie, Jimi, and Prince. No particular order. And anyone that doubts Prince should watch his solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps from the 2008 rocknroll hall of fame.

This song is Voodoo Child ( slight return ) from Electric Ladyland, which also includes Voodoo Child. For a live version of Voodoo Child itself, search out Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood together. Also in a similar vein to SRV and from Texas, ZZ Top. though maybe you know them already.

SRV was not just showing off... he was actually performing out of respect (a tribute) for Jimmy Hendrix. He played left handed... upside down and such because Jimmy was such a big influence. And of course SRV became an inspiration for others too. I remember a cool story where Eric Clapton heard him over the radio and pulled over off the road just to soak in the mastery of this guy. He stated he knew no one who could improvise over and over again w/o any breaks in the transitions or creative changes.

Stevie was great. Now check another Steve. Steve Vai. Tender Surrender live. Hard to tag anybody with "greatest" guitar player. SRV, greatest at blues/rock. You might find yourself thinking Vai is the greatest..in a couple other genres.

And Voodoo Child was the last solos both Hendrix and Stevie played before their deaths!! I didnt realise til fairly recently....the only difference was as the Pine Valley concert was ended all the great musicians decided to do one last jam - inc Stevie of course - off the cuff (aparently he blew everyone off the stage lol) SO ive had some say im wrong but no im not! Technically BOTH played this song as their own last song & it is sad & ironic the words...there has to be a connection somehow we mere mortals no nothing off! Fly high Stevie, ur with ur hero 🥰🕊🤘🏼 Both will be forever loved...ur each 2 sides to the same coin!! 💞 ⭐☁️👋🏾🎸👋☁️ ⭐

It's always hard to find the words cause first you've gotta pick up your jaw from the floor. It's a damn shame Stevie and Jimi never had the opportunity to jam together for us to see. Maybe someday in the next world...love you, Stevie. 💙☮️to all.

I love Stevie's stank face. He really nails the Doppler effect twice, early in this performance. Hendrix was a genius who broke so much ground in guitar playing/performance but Stevie (a committed Hendrix and blues acolyte) perfected and excelled in his technique and delivery. Stevie was more consistent and smooth. He had more blues tricks up his sleeve than anyone. A dedicated bluesman, he rarely played the same piece the same way twice. Very improvisational. An absolute master of his art. Gone too soon. RIP

G.O.A.T. But then again, I’m a bit biased in my opinion... I’m in Austin, TX. And that’s were SRV hit it big!
