Agreed! I'm a 55 year young white woman born and raised in Detroit. Although I was young didn't mean I wasn't exposed to it all! My Daddy's sisters were our babysitters❤ (Mom & Daddy had 4 girls) They would set up the "old" playlist-of Vinyls! The best playlist too - with that arm on the console stereo and drop a record at a time and that's how they kept us entertained with the great music and dancing, because that was what they loved. They were teenagers! I bet they haven't ever heard of the "Mashed Potatoes" and not the kind they Grandma made. How wonderful our minds are...the sound of a song, or smell can bring back such Great memories! Thanks for your share. Please DO delve into some of the music as on person commented. Where all of the artists today had their own influence.

LOL That's just what I was thinking. There are Stevie Wonder songs that I love more than others, but if someone ever says, "Want to hear this Stevie Wonder song?" the answer should always be YES because it will be great. I think if you like this song, you're bound to love "Higher Ground," and everyone should be familiar with "Signed, Sealed, Delivered," "I Was Made to Love Her," "For Once in My Life," maybe "I Just Called To Say I Love You," and of course, "I Believe," which is just extraordinarily beautiful.

Stevie is a force in American music, one of the great composers and musicians of the 20th C. Two years in a row he swept the Grammys winning 7 Grammys in each of 2 years. His harmonies are so complex modern musicians refer to them as "Stevie Wonder" chords. He is a phenom--a great voice, a great musician, simply--and utterly brilliant.

I saw Stevie live once in Las Vegas at a private show and rode on a plane a few years ago with him in front of me with his wife and bodyguard. Out of respect I didn’t bother them but had a brief conversation with his bodyguard of many years. I don’t remember what we spoke about. Anyway, he is a Motown legend, hell he’s a world legend. He has more hits than most folks realize until you start counting them down. I’m happy to have grown up in a time where I was able to enjoy his music from when he was discovered by Berry Gordy as a young teenager through his solo projects when he broke from Motown until today.

What these beautiful young men are doing is phenomenal - and guys please keep it up. Nothing but encouragement here!🥰 You’re in my top two favorite of these new music first-reaction channels. Still, what sometimes baffles me (and I’m speaking to your audience here) is how, being a child of the 70s, my generation was so much more aware of a vast variety of musical styles and artists who were big even decades before we were born up through our current time - and this was WITHOUT the Internet, phones, etc., that the next generations pretty much had at their fingertips ALL their lives. Our parents and their parents and their parents played their music, and we just soaked it all up. Plus radio was super diverse. It really is telling about how we (I’m GenX) were so much more well rounded musically as youth and now. Yet, that wide musical scope has SHARPLY narrowed and become more segregated these days (but thankfully not completely).... and here’s the kicker....Since it’s MY generation that raised THIS generation, I’m just gonna say it: it’s WE who partially dropped that ball! So all of you who criticize these young men for not knowing what they don’t know, think about that. Also I believe in an interview these young men mentioned that they grew up in a somewhat religious home that didn’t allow them to listen to a lot of secular music, so that definitely is a factor. #PeaceLoveAndMusic

His hair was braided back then, which was big at that time. And Bruno got MUCH from Stevie, that’s the value of people like Bruno Mars hittin it live today. Part of the reason this song is important, is that it was really the beginning of music by black popular artists, speaking to issues of the time, just like rap started out fun & took on the persona of message music, like Grand Master Flash’s The Message. Few years later you into Public Enemy, NWA, etc. Stevie was part of the Motown record label family from childhood. At some point, he & Marvin Gaye started steppin to label head, Berry Gordy to express their desire to have control of their music, & write about social issues, not just love songs. Jazz musicians had done it, but that was not on a pop music level. You gotta hear: Stevie’s, Livin For the City, You Haven’t Done Nothin, Happy Birthday (for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King); Marvin Gaye’s, ‘What’s Goin On’, Mercy, Mercy Me, Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holla); Temptations’ Ball. Of Confusion; Stylistics’ People Make the World Go ‘Round; Donny Hathaway’s ‘One Day We’ll All Be Free’; Isley Brothers’ ‘Fight the Power’. Also, at this point, Stevie was playin drums on all his tracks. I think it started on the one before this Talkin Book album called, Music of My Mind. Stevie never named his albums after any of the songs on the recording...kind of unique in pop. A precursor to this era might be a song like, ‘A Change is Gonna Come’, by Sam Cooke. Otis Redding also recorded that. Would be in the mid ‘60’s.

He was a wonder boy because he became famous at a very young age. He is blind, and he has incredible soul. So many hits out there from Stevie Wonder. I love you guys!

Stevie wrote the song, played multiple lines of funky clavinet keyboard on this, played the drums (yes, I repeat - he played the drums on this) and sang the incredible vocal. World legend....remember, he is completely blind.
