Oh, you are not prepared for their latest title track Break The Break....brace yourself for relentless guitars and double pedal on the drums. Their drummer/leader Gunil actually went to a music college in the US (moved to the states w/ his family in middle school, was actually scouted by jyp through the drum covers he used to post on youtube) and in this latest album you can really hear his chops coming through. Each comeback they get more and more involved in the writing and production of their music which also manifests as a more cohesive sound while still not being afraid to play around w/ different styles. Also, if u need proof that they can actually play this live, there's a live clip for this and all the songs on their first mini album Hello World up on their yt channel. More heavy recommendations would be Man In The Box, Come Into My Head, Enemy, Crack In The Mirror, Sucker Punch, Freakin Bad, and Bicycle. It's not an original, but if you do wanna dip back into their covers then their rock-ified version of Tomboy by G-idle is an absolute must. While I disagree a bit with your thoughts on the instruments not being as present, bc this song is actually one of their more stripped back ones as far as the number of sounds and layers (at least to me), I do also get how it might still sound sorta over produced to some. Partly they were still finding their sound at this stage, it was their first mini album and they'd just spent like 6 months in the jyp dungeon not getting to do anything after they released their debut single Happy Death Day. But I also think there was likely some influence, either directly or indirectly, of that signature organized chaos production style that made Stray Kids so successful. Hell, he's not in the credits but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if Chan pitched in or gave feedback when they were producing their first couple albums. But as they've grown I think the members of XH have gained a lot of confidence in their voices and instruments, so they've taken more control of their sound to make it more instrument and rock forward. Like, with their earlier stuff I would kinda hesitate to call them a rock band. Pop rock, or pop punk, maybe, but really they were just a kpop group that played instruments instead of dancing. Even tho they weren't stopping to dance between riffs or anything, they were still very much trying to appeal to an existing kpop fanbase and banking on their association w/ groups like Stray Kids and Itzy by being under the same company. Which unfortunately put them in this weird paradox of getting unfairly dismissed by more traditional rock/band listeners bc they were under a kpop label and marketed very much like a kpop group, but fans of mainstream kpop didn't see gym rats in crop tops dancing so they often didn't give XH a chance either. Of course, once anyone from either side stumbled upon XH the response was almost univerally "oh shit, this is actually amazing!". But now they're really embracing their identity as a rock band and a plethora of genres within that, from punk to grunge to industrial to hair metal to hardcore. It's a beautiful thing to watch them develop. They just finished their first european tour, and it was so cool to see the crossover appeal so evident in the crowds at their shows. Like, you had the kpop fans w/ their light sticks and banners and unbridled enthusiasm, trading photocards and giving out their handmade fanart to each other. But you also had the ones who clearly were experienced w/ band and rock shows, throwing up the horns and jumping around to every song as if it were the finale. And there were of course lots of people filming, for which I'm grateful bc all the fancams on twitter were fantastic, but unlike most kpop shows i've seen there were just as many w/ their phones down just enjoying the music. As a longtime metalhead who only figured out what kpop even was last year but has always wanted to diversify my listening habits, XH has been a fantastic bridge between my old and new loves.

If you want to react to some of their "heavier" song i recommend their latest title track break the brake, their b-sides bycicle, crack in the mirror, sucker punch and Lunatic. Also freakin bad and happy death day! I hope you can react to more of their live performances and covers: Tomboy (G-Idle), Hellevator (Skz), Impossible (Nothing but thieves), Love me right (exo) and more.

A little heavier from their first album (which also includes Strawberry cake) HELLO WORD is Sucker Punch (please check the live clip, so you can hear their instruments), all their songs from this album has live clips. 2nd album OVERLOAD, you may check out their Band peeformance of "XMAS" and LUNATIC 3rd album, DEADLOCK, the one heavy for me is "MAN IN THE BOX" and "BICYCLE" which are definitely my faves as i love rock bands like you, MCR, Green day, FOB, etc. 4th album, LIVELOCK, their title trac, "BREAK THE BRAKE" is so heaaavvyy that you can barely breath. All of the songs from that. I think during their early discography, they are restricted to let themselves out due to how bands are less popular in korea thats why their songs are lighter but as they go thru, they are more becoming free to what they really like. You can definitely see how they grow from tiny boys to men who rock! From those little, limited rockish body sways to those head banging!!! I hope you can check them out further! And thaankkyyoouu!!!

Not sure what you meant 'bout the instruments but yeah if you would look closely on the mv, they weren't playing that much especially on the first two choruses. It was kinda funny to me when I first noticed it. Agree that on some parts of the song only some of the instruments were played. You'll definitely notice it also on some of their live fancams of this song. Anyway, this is my favorite song of them and what made me stan them

It’s pronounced X-dinary heroes. Hope that helps❤ you can react to their live clip of this song (on their channel) then maybe you can hear the presence of each instrument better, because they’re definitely being played but more in the background and this is the recorded version so it may sound different from the live (I don’t know how to explain it) and the video doesn’t show everything. Thanks for the reaction!! I’m definitely excited to see you react to them in the future

If you wanna hear the instruments more clearly you should directly check the live clips of their songs rather than the studio/official/finished songs. Checking their live performances you can cleraly see and hear that they know how to play and sing, they're super talented! I think you would like the live performance of their song Money on my mind. I also suggest the songs Paint it and Love and fear.
