Stromae was out of the music world after a 200 concert tour, ending in Rwanda where he father had been killed. He had a burn out/depression + problem with anti-malaria meds. He has only come back after, what 7/8 years. Whatever, he is back again with an incredible album and hopefully he has got over his depression. Pure genius !
He also credits his brother with saving his life. His brother was the one who noticed the dramatic change in his behaviour and his vigilance led him to make the link to the malaria drugs.
You would have discovered him anyway, he's all around. Definitely worth checking out his latest 'Fils de Joie', which tackles the subject of dehumanizing sexual workers, 'Quand C'est' with the cancer topic, 'Carmen' with social media issues, and not to forget 'Papaoutai' concerning the loss/absence of a father. Have fun with these! You won't be disappointed!! Greeting from Belgium.
I think the last verse is from the perspective of the people in our life. When you tell some one you have dark, depressed, or suicidal thoughts, their dismissive answer is "You think too much, thats the problem with you". Ive had my own mother say it to me on the subject.
When he first released this one I cried watching the MV since it was like him speaking on a reality that been kinda living in for a while and just having it kinda put out to was a little cathartic in a good way since it was like having all the internal stuff finally coming out. Like how he is hitting his head and fighting with himself a bit is like how I often see myself as well internally alot and I just love how real he gets with his music like so many other songs from this new album and from his older ones just have some really good lyrics.
Stromae is an amazing musician, unfortunately he dropped out of sight about 8 years ago due to his health. Really recommend His song "Tous les memes", not only because its great music but because of the fantasticly well done video.
Stromae is a fucking genius man. One of the rare french speaking artist that can rival the best artists at the world level. I'm a big hip hop head but I'm a music fan first and what I like in rap / hip hop is the lyrical tour de force that some artists can do and this genre is perfect for that. But in some languages it's way more difficult to do so. And in French especially, it's difficult because of the way the language is structured. French poetry has a different taste because of that. And Stromae is the perfect example of that. Sitting on the shoulders of giants like Jacques Brel but with the modern approach of lyricism. And that's not even touching the genius of the music and visual composition. Clearly a once per generation type of artist
Yes, I also love that he has no boundaries regarding style. He is a poet like the old chansonniers, but musical flexibility, knowledge and ability to combine trditional music, pop, rap, electro and whatever comes to his mind. And the visual elements are also very inspiring. The artistic cooperation with his brother and wife and the equal focus on the musicvideos reminds me of billie eilish and her brother, and I would love to see a cooperation between the van haver and eilish households. 😃
Thank you for an insightful reaction! I really appriciate how open you are to get into music that has different sounds or is in a foreign language. Please react to more Stromae, I recommend Papaoutai!
Stromae, brel, brassens, Ferré, Saez, piaf, Barbara, Gainsbourg, etc.... Il y en a tellement !
Stromae is a genius! Imo he is THE definition of a true artist!🙌 His lyrics are all very deep mixed with upbeat music...you should definitely check out more of his music😊 (Btw his name is maestro mixed up...same pronunciation..maybe that helps a little👍)
It’s STRO-MAE, not Storm-A! He is a pure genius, a poet, a true artist of rare kind!! The way he mixes the different sounds is out of this world… classical Mozart, ethnic, pop, hip hop… just outstanding!!
The actual impromptu reactions of lashing out physically wasn’t written in the music video. But was, an emotional reaction Stromae had to the frustration of struggling with feelings building up. And the zooming out of him as a figure, signals that he still feels small and alone with those feelings.
His new album is called "Multitude" and one of the song is "Fils de joie" the idea of this song came from a talk show and it was dedicated to the children of sex workers and on this talk show one of the child explained that a client of his mother told him that he banged his her and Stromae found the phrase and the attitude of the client out of place.
Stromae does not miss! Everything he does is unique in its own way and executed to perfection. Agreed, I may be biased because I'm Belgian as well, but still. Papaoutai, Formidable, Tous Les mêmes and Quand c'est are other gems of him. And his latest single dropped 3 days ago and is currently at 5.3m views: Fils de joie (Son of joy) and the mv depicts the State funeral of a sex worker in a ficticious country!
My friend..go back and check out..Jacques Breil..the 2 artist are 2 of a kind...and if l may..look what Jack Breuil did with what he knew were his last year's on this earth...
YOOO KING. Please REACT to BZRP MUSIC SESSION #49 WITH RESIDENTE. The greatest diss track in the spanish hip hop. Its 1 week old and it has over 50M views. (ENGLISH SUB ON) Beleave me, its worth it 🔥🔥🔥
Is "la chaîne culpabilité" a common French metaphor for porn? I interpreted it more as a metaphorical channel - as in, Does anyone have problems with feeling guilt all the time? or something along those lines
“Guilt channel” he is simply expressing that he is feeling culpability and is leading to his depression. Whether that’s because of what he sees on the TV or not
Stromae is a legend in the history of French art , to me he is one the best artist/ lyricist that saw the day.I grew up listening this songs and here I am still doing so but understanding his art better
No he is speaking to his depression at the end. He says he's been think about it (ie his depression) and that he can't find a solution about it but that is actually the problem as people suffering from depression often think way too much. I think that's what he meant. I'm french btw so it helps haha
My interpretation is he’s fighting himself and st the end he’s trying to keep himself alive no matter what. He’s thought about it and fought for it but he’s starting to let himself go because of others yet lives for those that are still in his life
I think the part of the lyrics about the channel is a metaphore for depression and our brain, and how certain thoughts keep coming back on a loop. It's like being stuck on the guilt trip channel and having no remote to change it, you just sit there and watch it, helpless to take your mind off those things. You can try thinking about something else for a time, but eventually something will trigger you back to reality. People who can't switch the channel just want to turn the TV off already, another metaphore for suicide perhaps.
Please, listen and react to the song Mr/Mme by Loic Nottet : 6 minutes long and very sincere song about mental health. It's in french with english subtitles (Loic is a young songwriter and dancer from Belgium, just like Stromae)
👍Stromae is a unique, extraordinary artist, and a precious human being. Great sensitivity, great maturity, his songs are important. I believe you should taste it more. He deliberately chooses to mix musical styles, instruments from around the world. Very creative. In a very different genre, it is for me as precious, useful, and necessary as Dimash. Thank you for this reaction
Strow, like Row, , mae, like may. It is maestro, mixed up. I loves him! I think he is genius. Too long for a reaction, but just an amazing show, original dance styles, deep lyrics with a good beat, a light/stage show like no other, watch Stromae- Racine. It is his live show in Montreal. Montreal knows to show him the love. For a shorter, fun one to react to, check Stromae in Formidable. There are a few versions up on yt, check out the one with 294 million views, the song isn't funny, it has Jaques Brel echo to it, but the video is super funny. I love both. After years out of music,
(con't) doing fashion design, Stromae is back on tour. Check out his brilliant Racine concert, it will give you a feel for if you might enjoy his show. I have been wondering if reaction vids would get on to him. 294 million views, one video version of one song, and so few in the west know of him. Bizarre. Whatever, cheers and enjoy, his talents are to be discovered, studied, savoured, feared. He will not let you sit and listen passively, his lyrics to deep, they confront you, dare you, compel you, to journey with him beneath the crafted veneer that humanity agrees upon, into the mysteries and compulsions that are the domain of the ghost in the machine. Kanye, Madonna, Missy, tried to scout him, but he refused their demand to sing/rap in English. I can only respect him more for saying no. Many, many would be pop stars would have a hard time saying no to those people, they would say, do, whatever they are told, if it meant a pop star career in America. Not Stromae. Going through his catalogue is truly a treat, if you enjoy him, look to see if he is doing a show near your town.
Uhhhhmmmm how did you get 'Stormzee' from 'Stromae' JS?!? Don't disrespect now, make an effort LOL .. I love Stromae, he's a musical GENIUS!! ~Inspirations & Blessings Nat~
You, describing it and breaking the verse down.. I’m balling.. ‘cause even though, I know I’m not alone in this battle.. it is still a f*cked up battle with my own damn self 😫
