Sugababes are icons in UK pop music. They had a whole decade at the top, they turned this song into their own

Sugababes are my favourite girl group. There have been 4 line ups in this group. This song was the first single released by the 2nd and most successful line up of the group.

It seems like there’s a divide between UK people who love this song (and made it a number one) and the Adina Howard version which was a huge hit in the US. This version marries Adina Howard’s lyrics (and singing tune in the most part) with the instrumental for Gary Numan’s Are Friends Electric? Personally, I think it works great but I’m one of the UK people lol.

I love it too! (UK) I really like the rough/harsh edge that the Numan sample brings the Sugababes. An unexpected choice to inject into an RnB song, but it works. (see also, Liberty X sampling/mashing up Human League's Being Boiled with Chaka Khan's Ain't Nobody.)

I'm sure I will get a lot of hate for saying this but I think that version is superior to Adina Howards original. Don't get me wrong, I love the original, too but Sugababes tuned that song to the max. They made it absolutely perfect.

Adina Howard plus Gary Numan - not sure anyone else would have thought that would mesh so perfectly. There's narrative going on here too. This was Heidi's first song in the new Sugababes line up, so effectively they recruit her into their vampire gang through this song and video.

What's so funny about this video is you sang Smooth Criminal and said it was from Alient Ant Farm, but you have a Michael Jackson poster behind you.... Michael Jackson sang that song originally in the 80s.

The Sugababes voices combined with the Gary numan sample makes this version better for me, it’s more interesting. But for the most part, people from North America will prefer the Adina version and people from Europe will prefer the Sugababes version.
