Just imagine, in the autumn of 1975 this album, ELO's 'Face the Music', Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here', and Queen's 'A Night At The Opera' were released.

What a beautiful start to an album. The basic guitar riff on "Sister Moonshine" hits you like a sunny morning in spring. One of my favorite songs by the band. The album still has a few highlights. On side two I particularly like “The Meaning”.

Way back when I shoplifted this record when it was first released, (yes, I was a 14 year old little bastard). I remember being mystified on my initial listen as I was expecting the drama of a "Crime of the Century II". However, after a few spins on the old Lloyd's stereo the bright & witty melodies grew on me and it soon became one of my favourite albums of the time. The songs "Two of Us" & "Poor Boy" bring back distinct memories. Thank you for helping me dredge up some goofy personnel history . Keep up the good work.

I would give anything to be able to magically return to 1975. I was 16 and my whole life was ahead of me, and the music was still great (just before Disco started taking over). If that were the case, I'd be listening to this album on my awesome stereo with my best friends hanging out. Crisis, What Crisis? was not my favorite Supertramp album but still very good.

Leadoff tracks from their sometimes overlooked/underappreciated masterpiece(our host correctly listens to them together). Roger Hodgson hiding a bit of angst behind grand melodies--in other words, typical Supertramp, making you both think AND feel. And the usual great musicianship/production Supertramp brings. Wish Roger had played more of the 12-string acoustic guitar(he does in his live shows). Crisis What Crisis is, on most days, my 2nd favorite Supertramp album(by a hair ahead of Breakfast In America and Even In The Quietsest Moments, Crime Of the Century is of course #1) Reportedly, most of the tracks were written for the COTC sessions, but saved for this album. There are also two " lost tracks " from this album: One is called " Land Ho ", a Hodgson piece, and " You Started Laughing ", a Rick Davies piece that appears as a B side to the single " Lady "-- and a live version is on the " Paris " album.

"Easy Does It" And if my thoughts had wings I'd be the bird that sings I'd fly where love isn't shy And everyone is willing to try And if we had the time And time's so hard to find I could believe what you say Start sending those shadows away And if you know who you are You are your own superstar And only you can shape the movie that you make So when the lights disappear And only the silence is near Watch yourself, easy does it, easy does it, easy while you wake And if you know who you are You are your own superstar And only you can shape the music that you make So when the crowds disappear And only the silence is here Watch yourself, easy does it, easy does it, easy while you wake ________________________ "Sister Moonshine" Oh, when I was a small boy Well, I could see the magic in a day Oh, but now I'm just a poor boy Well maybe it's the price you have to pay If you lock your dreams away If no-one wants to listen What's the story? I wish I'd been a minstrel Just think of all the maidens I'd recall Oh, I wish I'd been a gypsy Then maybe I could read the crystal ball 'Cause surrounded by these walls Just makes me feel uneasy I said: Hey, Sister Moonshine Won't you send me a little sun? I said: Hey, Sister Moonshine I'm a stranger to everyone So make us all laugh, make us all cry Make us all give, make us all try Give us the secret show us the lie We'll strike up the music and light up the sky Oh, if I was a lion Well I could be the king of all the plain Oh, and if I was an eagle Well maybe I could fly above the rain Fly above the pain But I know I'm only fooling I said: Hey, Sister Moonshine Won't you send me a little sun? I said: Hey, Sister Moonshine I'm a stranger to everyone Make us all laugh, make us all cry Make us all give, make us all try Give us the secret show us the light We'll strike up the music and light up the sky I said: Hey Sister Moonshine I said: Hey Sister Moonshine I said: Hey Sister Moonshine I said: Hey I said: Hey Sister Moonshine

And this is the "bad" Supertramp album... Critics thrashed it, and it didn't sell very well either. Of course, after an absolute masterpiece like "Crime of the Century", expectations were high. Still, I think this is one case that confirms Salvador Dalí when he said that "the purpose of critics is to be always mistaken" (this is not a mistranslation, he really said "purpose"!). I find "Crisis? What Crisis?" absolutely delicious from start to finish, and it's one of my favorite albums - not just by Supertramp, of all time! And I wish you had let "Ain't Nobody But Me" play. The video would still end up with a reasonable length and you wouldn't regret it. It's at the same level of excellence as Sister Moonshine, but far more dramatic, and equally surprising in their musical choices - it even has a section where Roger takes his falsetto to a new level, almost chipmunk-like, while Rick responds and it all sounds like a vaudeville revue number choir. Then comes "A Soapbox Opera", which has a somewhat sad tone but still has room for their wry irony and humor, and was this album's most popular song, and side 1 ends with "Another Man's Woman", which features Rick at his best, creating unusual atmospheres just with his piano and making the best Supertramp outro of all time (and you know how good they were at outros!). IMO, it puts the outro in "Child of Vision" to shame! Side 2 starts with "Lady", which is absolutely irresistible and will get you dancing on your chair before it ends with a hypnotic and unusual outro. "Poor Boy" is my personal favorite from this album for two reasons: because it sounds very chic (it's one of those songs that reveal Rick's natural elegance), and because it completely lifts my mood. Then the humor abruptly disappears and the last two songs are pretty serious and sad: "The Meaning" has luxurious instrumentation, but Roger doesn't fool you that it's not time for irony or smiles. And "Two of Us" is almost painful in its sadness, which is probably why it wasn't applauded in their legendary "Paris" concert. Both are BEAUTIFUL, though. In short, there is not a single bad song in this album, and "Easy Does It" is probably the only "okay" one. All others are outstanding in their own way. I really don't understand the negative reaction to this delightful album. That contrast between, on the one hand, sadness and sensible depictions of the hardships of life, and on the other hand, humor, irony, love of life, and positivity (which you can see already in this album's genius cover artwork) is probably the very reason why Supertramp was extremely popular here in Brazil in the 1970s. That's exactly how Brazilians are, we try to remain happy and positive and to keep our joy of living even when life doesn't make things easy for us, and the message got across even to those who didn't understand English, yet still sensed what they were saying. The identification was total. Sadly, Supertramp only gave a single performance in Rio de Janeiro, in the 1980s, when the band was in a crisis (and they weren't asking "what crisis?), and there was already a new generation that didn't know them very well. If they had come in the 1970s, they would have sold out stadiums and had the tour of their lives. Roger Hodgson did come several times later for pocket shows. One presentation in particular became legendary: he wanted to just introduce the songs from his new album, with just a sprinkle of Supertramp here and there, but someone shouted from the audience: "Play 'Fool's Overture'!" That was followed by a roar of applause in support. Roger definitely wasn't planning on playing such a long and complex piece, and he said: "I can see how you are my friends!" But he did play it, with thunderous applause afterwards.

I love the music creativity and the nostalgic feeling on this album... I HATE the mix, too much treble and not enough bass in the mix, this is the opposite of the unforgettable live double album, Supertramp Paris, the mixing and production of that album is PERFECT as 1982 Famous Last Words album is too.

@@retroreactions.... Cannonball is from the first album without Hogdson (1985), it's a good song but nothing special IMO, the whole album is very Davies style, it's not bad but it doesn't have the magic of the classic Supertramp. Lord it is mine is TOOO beauty, "Waiting" is good, Davies style too, but those 4 I reccomended, from 1982 album are direct arrows to your heart and your soul ;)

For me, the first track is not a strong album opener. More like a filler track to slot in somewhere less important tbh. There was more to the second track, but I didn't care for it. I usually like Supertramp's stuff, but I think these were definitely substandard.
