"I Am the Walrus" was written by John Lennon & is from their 1967 TV musical film "Magical Mystery Tour". It is one of their more quirky songs. John wrote the song to confuse listeners who who were constantly trying to make serious scholarly interpretations of the Beatles' lyrics.

Nothing better after A Hard Day's Work than to sit down and watch somebody to listen to a Beatles song for the first time. You're Blown Away now but it grows. Sometimes I think these four guys are like space alians who came to Earth in Disguise to show us what music could be.

John Lennon always said he didn't like his voice that much, but I have tried to sing harmonies to Paul's lead, and I just can't do it like John did. He was brilliant at the harmonies. That's one reason he and Paul were such a great song writing/singing team. 👍👍

John Lennon was dissatisfied with the quality of his own voice and did not like hearing himself sing. He would often ask the band's producer, George Martin, to "do something" to his voice to mask its normal sound. Lennon felt insecure about the imperfections in his tone while he sang, especially when they were recorded for others to listen to.

I think your comments on the individual Beatles hits the nail on the head. Greatest band ever. I have been listening to them since they first came on the scene. I probably know every word to every song. It’s so cool to see others discover this talent from my time. Love all you reactors. It’s like hearing for the first time for me as well

Always love your insights man. And I really agree with your attitude about it. I grew up with the Beatles and was in high school when John Lennon got assassinated and so I've always had a close association with them, and they informed me a lot as a musician growing up. The first vinyl I ever bought from them after hearing them on the radio forever since my first memories was in fourth grade at a yard sale across the street. There was a pile of 45 RPM singles without the record sleeves, and they were very well worn and beat up, and they had a bit of masking tape on each one which literally said 1 cent. It was the hit single that we all sang on the playground in grade school, Yellow Submarine, with Ringo singing, and side B was Eleanor Rigby, and when I finally flipped it over and put it on it freaked me out. Partly it was so scratchy but it's one of their most intense songs it turns out, and a fan favorite, meaning that it was called a double single where both side A and side B become hits. Paul McCartney takes the lead on that and George Harrison helped with the middle section of the lyrics. If you haven't reacted to those, I would highly recommend, and also the brilliant and poignant and hilarious piano-driven song, Hey bulldog, with Lennon taking the lead and later the boys get involved acting like dogs to do this imaginary conversation between John Lennon and this bulldog. It's freaking hilarious.

Thank you for this. I watch a lot of reaction videos, especially to the Beatles. I'm a big fan of them, and you're the first reactor I've seen that gets them. The other like them, even love them, but your descriptions of them -- Ringo as driving the music, Paul as putting his heart into his music, John as the poet, George as the spiritual one -- are spot on. Four geniuses who somehow found each other, and then had the luck to hook up with George Martin. Martin could be thought of as the fifth Beatle -- the other four would come up with ideas, and he would have to make them real. John would say that he wanted something to sound like an orange tasted, and Martin would have to figure out what that meant and how to do it. So we can add him to the list. I don't know how I could sum him up as succinctly as you did the others. The important parts of him were his ability to listen, his willingness to stretch the available technology, and his respect for these four young guys (who returned the respect). It's harder to tell his contribution in any given song, but as the Beatles matured, it grew greater. Four geniuses plus one genius created genius music. You did a great job of explaining why.

I love how they included representations of "Janis Joplin"& "Jimmi Hendrix"!!!!! Even a reference to the riots and I saw it as riots in "Detroit", but at that time, it could've been any city. I loved the way they represented " REVOLUTION"!!!!!

"Yellow matter custard, Dripping from a dead dog's eye, Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess, Boy you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down." Lennon wrote this song after discovering that a teacher had been analyzing the Beatles’ lyrics with his students. So he made a song that made no sense at all to mock the idea that there was any great message hidden in the Beatles' Songs. And of course, they still did even more.

Leo Sayre did a great cover of this and a couple other Beatles songs for a docu movie McCartney did with big name artists called ALL THIS AND WORLD WAR TOO. Super creative editing of a combination of actual news footage and period movies. Most artists only have one song each, but Leo Sayre and The Bee Gees have multiple each. It really stood out to me how talented a singer Leo Sayre was when he sang the Beatles songs that maybe had more difficulty than most of his own. One of the best known Beatles covers originated from this project: Elton John’s LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS. I highly recommend it!!!

Hi Stan! This was part of The Magical Mystery Tour, so a bit on the psychedelic side. John was The Walrus. In the Lennon/McCartney world whomever is singing lead generally wrote the song. The other may or may not have collaborated. Now for inspiration the Fab Four certainly turned to The Rutles and were inspired for sure. Piggy In The Middle was one of their classics and truly inspiring. I’m trying a link, below. That's only on one channel. It was recoorded in stereo and half of it is missing. Finding a good copy of this track, or the right footage that goes with it is quite difficult. Most Beatles stuff is heavily copyrighted. This is not what the track really sounds like, with only one channel you're missing instrumentation, backing vocals and depth.

Dude, this is not the original version. Most "reactors" are listening to these wimpy "remixes" and don't know they're not listening to the original song, which is especially important to hear when it's a song this specifically weird. This is actually the weirdest song to ever be on the radio, the Beatles nailed that title forever with this one. But you've not heard it.
