Great song choice. You guys need to research the story of Merry Clayton who sang the female part of this song. It will blow your mind how that came about and what hapoened after.
Nice to see you both grooving along with the Stones. There's plenty more great Rolling Stones material to check out. "Paint It, Black", "Midnight Rambler", "Sway", "Shine A Light" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash" just to name a few.
@@kingnkamy3513 Nice one. If you stick to their material from their beginning (1962) up until the very early '80's you can't go wrong. Particularly their era from 1968-1973.
You could do an entire series of anti war songs. The Stones also have a song that talks about slavery called Brown Sugar. A lot of people miss the meaning and think it's glorifying, but it's actually just talking about the dark and disgusting reality. Give it a listen and see what you think.
I watched your reaction to "CCR" that's what you call southern-rock, at its best. Here's another "Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son" Great reaction, Thanks and Take Care~
Look up the story of what happened to the awesome young lady doing back singing on the track! You will not believe how much she put into this song...sadly what she lost !
They no longer make the stereo systems that these records were meant to play on . The sound was engineered to split & hit your ears separately . You can reproduce the music as it was intended by using headphones , which on some rock song will give you the impression that the drummer or guitar player is behind you or that the sound is whirling around your head . Without headphones it’s like taking a shower while wearing a raincoat
One thing that I think people miss about this song is that they speak of the redcoats, the British Army. In essence, a government turning on its people. A warning of a different kind of war.
You guys have to work on your production. You sound like you’re speaking through a tunnel. The music is mono, low, and faded! You can do it! 😎 The GOATS LED ZEPPELIN!!!!!!!
Kamy, you have the perfect shirt on for listening to Mick and his lips! lol And BTW, You guys are just too cool for school. Just sayin'. Love ya's. A shot away means, It's that close! War, rape, murder in our society, well, it's right here. For me, it's just describing the dichotomy of how we live. Of how we were when the song was written, and timelessly, how and where we are today. War, rape, murder is just a shot away. And yet, the last stanza, how about we can simply try another approach: Love, sister, it's just a kiss away. Mick is saying: WE make the change.
OK, a little history. Gimme Shelter was released in 1969. Vietnam War was at full roll. The Tet surprise offensive had just occurred Jan. 1968. Walter Cronkite had Feb. 1968 declare the Vietnam War unwinnable. Watts Riots had happened in 1965, Detroit riots was in 1969. Also, remember the average age of the Combat Infantryman during Vietnam was 19 versus in World War II it was 35. So, 19 is a child. As for reference ... Societal injustice, sad 50+ years nothing has changed. Gimme Shelter becomes obvious.
SUGGESTION : I find that Gimme Shelter is one of The Rolling Stones songs much better appreciated by a live in-concert video . Watching the interactions between Mick and Lisa Fischer as well as seeing the joy on Lisa's face when she hits the high notes ; is priceless ! Merry Clayton gave an iconic , memorable performance for the album but Lisa Fischer "owns" this song when sung live in concert . The two RU-vid vids I would recommend are : The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter (Live) - OFFICIAL PROMO ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8kl6q_9qZOs.html or The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter - the best version ever. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6yGFuX2KDQs.html
it's just a shout--not shot--away, it's just a shout away. rape and fire are just a shout away...i've been singing this song for years. i know it by heart
