I'd recommend you listen to "sister morphine" another good song of theirs. of course i can't think of a bad song of theirs, they're quite talented. I keep listening to you because my favorite band is either pink floyd or led zepplin depending on what day it is and i remember you saying almost the same thing in another video so i took interest in you.

Your spot on with the meaning, and well done at a young age for seeing that, there are not many Christian groups that do not believe in the ‘personification of a Devil’ most mainstream churches believe the Devil is a man, but when you study Bible truth it becomes clear that the word Devil derives from ‘diablos’ just meaning adversary (mans adverse and sinful thoughts), so yes, what lots of people see as the work of ‘the Devil’ is really just ‘you and me’ as the clever lyrics in this great song allude to. The Rolling Stones have so many classic songs it's ridiculous. And just as many songs that weren't hits, that should have been. I've always loved "Monkey Man", "Daddy You're a Fool to Cry" and "Can't You Hear Me Knocking". And I could go on listing songs and still leave not name them all.

30odd years ago I was a teenage soldier in the British Army in Germany. I got a new room mate who'd transferred from the Royal Marines. He introduced me to the Rolling Stones, I've been a fan ever since then.

This song and "Paint It Black" are my two favorites from The Stones - though I do like the rest of their catalog.

Welcome to one of the greatest “rabbit holes” in Rock & Roll. The Rolling Stones were, are and always will be one of the most amazing and influential bands in history. They have been the cause of much controversy over the decades, often because of the style and content of their music or the message contained within their lyrics. Even today the intended message of some songs can be misinterpreted, “Brown Sugar” being one that comes to mind. Just remember that they were invariably coming from a position of respect, admiration and love, and were simply trying to bring focus upon that which they felt was unseen and that society needed to acknowledge.

Paint it Black by the stones is my fav song of all time im in my 40's and my father served 2 tours in Vietnam so this song always hit home its deep...

1968... the year I graduated from high school. Vietnam was going strong. I remember in my college years listening to this and dancing around a dining room table singing "Woo woo". Of course we were all stoned!

In the 60's and 70's they said we were too young and wasted to know what the world was about ! We showed them ! We are STILL showing them !

It's such a joy to watch you go through what I went through 40+ years ago (I caught up to the Stones in the late 70's when I was a teenager). In a similar vein check out You Can't Always Get What You Want and Gimme Shelter. Dumb story, but I'll tell it anyhow. I was renting a room in a house in Liverpool in 1982, and a friend of my landlord dropped by and said she was looking for someone to drive down to Bristol with, 'cos a friend of hers was having a house party right by the football stadium where the stones were playing. We drove down, listened to Black Uhuru's set and some bloke pulls out a bunch of tix and says "who wants one?" Walked right down to the stage as the Stones started their set. I was so stoked because I thought I might never have another chance to see them again (because they were so old) - little did I know, 40 freaking years later, they would still be playing live gigs! I think you're spot on with your interpretation of this song. 'Sympathy' for the Devil as 'he' is blamed for most if not all evil when we and we alone as humans are responsible for our actions, our atrocities, our self and planetary destruction. We are thrown into this world without explanation and are abandoned as a species to determine our own morality.

It's really important actually that younger generations look at these songs because it's a history lesson and mind expanding. Now that aside - My favorite Stones songs beside this one include SLAVE and Monkey Man although they are very different they both groove me soooooo good. Saw them on Steel Wheels tour as a tear down guy, ended up breaking a couple of toes when a light tower was accidentally lowered on my left foot. This was at Anaheim stadium after the Angels won the WS. I grabbed some mound dirt before my accident. Still have a shirt they gave us all.

You want to think the World is perfect..We all get sucked in. It's happening now. Killing Kennedys John F Kennedy his brother Bobby. Martin Luther King. Vietnam, it was political instability.... Mick Jagger, and the whole band, except drummer just recently passed, still sell out arenas. Watch them live, I forgot who sings it but a song called..Moves Like Jagger, referring to Jaggers stage presence, video shows clips of Jagger.....Good song.
