This song became an anthem for so many people, myself included. It's extremely powerful 🥰 I'm sure you will LOVE the film 😊 And I hope tomorrow is a better and brighter day for you ❤️
same here... been bullied throughout most of my school-years (until the last 2 years of high-school)... they said I was weird and whatever else they used to torment me with... only place I really felt at home and myself was in music class where none of the others bullied or tormented me... at one point I was so damn low that I was honestly thinking of taking my own life... my music-friends got wind of that and decided to get me out of that mind-set... school had refused to do anything against the bullies so we (along with our music teacher & band-leader) decided to take action ourselves... a major school-convention was coming up and the band had be ordered to play certain songs (yep, ordered... trust me, never order a band to do something, especially if the teacher is a feisty and very protective of his students)... instead of the ordered list the band called out the school for their enabling behaviour (national media was present due to some award for safe school-environment to be handed out to the principle... after we called him out the ones handing out the award immediately took back the award and started a very in-depth investigation... the majority of the school-board and around half the teachers were fired due to their behaviour... close to 50 students were found to be guilty of inciting the torments and were expelled from the district since the organisation was able to prove they were the cause behind several suicides)... best bit was that this song allowed me to pick myself up in front of the entire school (close to 1500 students) and show them I wasn't just this meek, grey mouse they could walk all-over... the 2 years that followed were the best of my life until then, I became a volunteer spokesperson for the creative arts department for school in helping students find their own corner, as well as for the national education department against bullying... did that for a year and then handed it over to my music teacher who'd stood beside me all those years of bullying... (sadly he died very unexpectedly, and way too early, 2 years ago, the fact that is was during pandemic had one major advantage: they filmed the service, and it was a good thing, thousands of alumni watched via the link and send cards/signed the register with stories of how he had influenced their lives... the family is still sending thank you letters 2 years after his death, they still haven't read every message of support...
The greatest musical of the last decade. Hands down. It makes a hero out of a real life scoundrel but the music is worth the suspension of disbelief. 😅 (And VoicePlay won’t disappoint. They drop the mic on their medley. 🔥)
He wasn't entirely a scoundrel. He was a champion of women's suffrage and a supporter of many social justice charities. In many ways, he did provide respect and a good living to those who might otherwise be treated as unworthy. He was a showman and a flimflam artist-- but always gave people their money's worth.
@@tafatapaleao4588 well, I’ve read 9 of his 14 autobiographies, read the pamphlets he wrote in support of women’s suffrage and Universalism, studied the feud between him and the founder of the ASPCA, and read accounts from some of the marginalized folks he employed. He was a complicated man. What additional research would you suggest I read?
The drums are Snare Drums. Used in historical wars to march into battle. Here the cast of the circus sideshows are tired of being seen as "freaks" . This scene is the power of group strength marching into battle for the right to be seen as human and worthy of love.
The part that gets me is: “When the sharpest words want to cut me down, I’m gonna send a flood gonna drown me out. I am brave, I am bruised I am who I meant to be, this is me!” I always break down at that part!
If this song hit you now...you should see the making or behind the scenes of the greatest showman. She said that she was so afraid to sing this in front of people that she almost didn't come out from behind the music stand. At one point she became so nervous she had to hold Hue's hand in order to continue singing. It is even more emotional to hear her sing then. It was like watching her understanding and claiming of the words coming together at one and the same time....bring your tissues.
This is one of my favorite songs to watch reactions for because every single person just has this really personal reaction to it, and it’s one of those songs that no matter who you are or what you’ve been through, it applies one way or another to everyone. everyone’s got something. seeing it effect so many people.. it never gets old. It is the anthem of people.
Agreed. It's very much an anthem for those that don't seem to fit the mold of 'normal' but absolutely everyone, I think, can relate to this song and the sentiment. Beautiful lady, beautiful voice, beautiful song, and a truly powerful message.
Yes, the two men with their arms around each other are basically the first well known “Siamese Twins.” If you Google, there are websites that line up the characters from the movie with their historical counterparts.
The scenes that are entangled with this song, and the message, where they go from being called freaks and being told to go home to the scene where they dancing for the crowd and they are loving it. The crowd was singing along with them. This song sends a message to not be afraid of who you truly are.
Yes. Her name is Keala Settle. You should check out a link someone put in one of the comments here about a performance of this song during a practice session when they were trying to get this greenlit. Check it out. You also might want to see her performance of this song on The Graham Norton Show in the U.K. It is an excellent live performance. Find it on RU-vid.
According to both Keala and Hugh Jackman she wasn’t originally casted in this movie but when the studio saw her greenlit performance they walked up to her and told her that she had just booked her first movie role (Hugh talks about it in the extras on the DVD) also a slightly funny story is that Keala was so dead set against doing this that Hugh had to bribe her w/ a bottle of her favorite liquor (forgot what it was called) just to get her to show up much less sing
When I first heard this song, I got goosebumps but now, after going through some shit, I can barely listen to it without breaking down into tears. The raw emotion in every word just devastates me. It truly is an anthem for anyone who even slightly feels the message
This is the song that I heard after I became a double amputee, it gave me hope, strength and inspiration. I am not like everyone else and thats ok. Great song and great show.
This song speaks directly to the spirit. I think that's why so many of us are moved by it. Keala nails it with her vulnerability & power. The version of this song they did to get the movie greenlighted makes me weep every time.
I literally listened to this soundtrack everyday for 2 years straight. As many said...watch the greenlight videos behind the scene. It is pure and utter joy...the musicians had. Pure magic and the outstanding talent in the room knew just how special it was. BTW...they often went into the recording booth right after they just ran through the dance singing live....they had a recording studio on set. From now on is my absolute favorite but I love each and every song from the movie.
Hi Rob! Hope you're having a better day today. New subscriber here. I'm an old, white lady in Australia, and there are a lot of people in the world who don't fit the moulds and boxes people want us to be in. I'm one of them too. On the bad days and when we need to get back up, this is the song to play, and play as many times as you need. I want this song and video played at my funeral. I do like the choreography because it builds into something people, and it's like they come out fighting. Zendaya was a great fit for this role. Great reaction mate. So glad gospel led us to music like this. Oh, and I love tympanee too! Best Wishes to you Rob! Hang in there, and keep looking forward. Take time to rest, recuperate and heal, and keep moving on. Sending you a grandma hug (( ))
I Like You. First time watching you react. I am a musical fanatic and this number blows me away every time I listen to it or watch the production. It is an anthem for many of us just trying to get by in today’s world. Thank you Rob!
"I'm going to try to hold it together." No, please don't. Let it go. Listen and let yourself melt into the inspiration and beauty and strength of the song.
Zendaya is such an amazing person. I have no idea why people don't like her. She's multi-talented, humble, has a good heart, and an awesome sense of humor.
Since this upload is a year old I hope you've done yourself the favor and watched this movie!!! It's so beautiful and empowering ♥The whole soundtrack is amazing. Keala Settle is the name of the actress playing the Bearded Lady. Ignore the haters who whine about accuracy and all that BS. It's a movie, it doesn't have to be real.
This song gets me every time!!! And sidebar: if you've never been curious about Zendaya as an actress...BIG MISTAKE! Watch Euphoria and you will see how BRILLIANT an actress that young lady is!!!
Rob…Great segment, thank you….but, PLEASE ROB, look it up on RU-vid. Keala Settles. Watch her do it not in costume, much more emotional. She starts, the chorus behind her and the song author playing the piano for the big wigs at the film studio to get the project green lit. This song did it, between Keala and the chorus’s and musicians the entire room gets swept away…including Hugh Jackman and Broadways Cynthia Onrubia and Jeremy Jordan…my favorite video ever. Philip
Please do the Greenlit version which is basically the cast trying to get the movie greenlit. Hugh Jackman taking her hand when she breaks down is everything!
the critics blasted this movie...I LOVED it!! The music in it is phenomenal...you have to see it yesterday!!😁😁 I'm a Dimash fan..so I'm headed over to your Dimash reaction next! you're amazing btw😁❤️
You should listen to the whole thing without stopping... The first time I heard this in it's entirety, I seriously got the chills down my spine and I cried, I was so moved by this, and I felt this with every fiber of my being... Because I've always felt that way that's described so well in this song... Moved to tears...
I wear that phrase I am who I'm ment to be this is me on my hockey mask. As someone who's on the autism spectrum this reminds me I'm who I'm supposed to be.
Love your reaction, I always cry during this song. And I wanted to also mention I love the timpani, it always adds that tender undercurrent in a song without being at all overpowering.
This has been one of my favorite movies and sound tracts since it came out. I enjoy watching the cold rehearsal of this song with Huge Jackman there with her.
Keala has an incredibly beautiful and strong voice in this song and she was a phenomenal performer in the movie! Zendaya was also a beautiful vocalist in the soundtrack!!!!!
The two men are meant to be Chang & Eng Bunker, famous Siamese (actually Chinese & Siamese) brothers who learned English on the ship to America. Please look them up sometime. Everyone else has said all the great things Keala Settle deserves.
Your beautiful soul shines through the screen! We all want to belong...yet no one fits in everywhere! We are all unique, searching for the same acceptance! 💙
Any and everytime I listen to this song it makes me cry... and most of all makes me FEEL POWERFUL!💪🤗😍 You really need to see the movie to put the song in context.
I'm commenting late, but this has just become my personal battle cry. I have very recently remembered being restrained and brutally traumatized by my father at the age of 5. In dealing with this my family has distanced themselves and have left me to "fight" this battle alone, judging me to be "different from them, not normal". Even my own husband. When that happens you just "get" this song. You do become a warrior, and you become fiercely brave in the process because if you don't you will not survive, and you realize that your bravery may very well help someone else to survive as well. This is the very birth of strength, and we must ALWAYS remember to use that strength to help others.
AFTER you have seen the film (and INEVITABLY gotten the "Showman Bug"!), you NEED to check out the Greenlight videos that the actors and background singers filmed to get the "go ahead" from the film's producers!! O M G.... CHILLS 24/7/365.
The Greatest Showman is one of my absolute favorite movies. I, like MANY others, am completely obsessed with the soundtrack. So much so that at my wedding I walked down the aisle to A Million Dreams, and our recessional song was This Is The Greatest Show. Your reaction to this absolute powerhouse of an anthem was wonderful. You'd think after a million times of hearing the song it wouldn't make me cry, but nope! I had the tears flowing this time, too. :) I hope you fall in love with all the rest of the amazing songs from this gorgeous movie.
You will enjoy the movie! The critics had no idea! Absolutely moving and memorable. Song always makes me cry! Has become mine and my daughters anthem!!! Enjoy!!!
Yes, they portrayed real-life cojoined twins Chang and Eng Bunker (1811-1874), Thai brothers born in what is now Thailand. They traveled with P.T. Barnum's circus for many years and were billed as the Siamese Twins. Chang and Eng were joined by a band of flesh, cartilage, and their fused livers at the torso.
Hi Rob - As amazing as this is you must see the green light version. It's the rendition that got the film made. If you don't believe me, then you will regret it for the rest of your life. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XLFEvHWD_NE.html or just type in This Is Me green light. You can thank me later. I've never ever seen so much energy in a room full of music.
Not just emotional but a worldwide anthem. You want it even more emotional" Do "This is Me" from the workshop to get the "Greatest Showman" greenlit. That and its counterpart with Hugh Jackman singing "From Now on" from the same workshop. Real magic happened in that room that day. Id highly suggest less pauses in these though to really let the feeling take over completely. Keala Settle - "This Is Me" - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XLFEvHWD_NE.html Hugh Jackman - "From Now On" - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PluaPvhkIMU.html
Zendaya (Zen-DAY-A) is a brilliant singer and I had an opportunity to see her in concert at the beginning of her singing career as she started w/ Disney. I encourage you to look up her songs from when she was younger.
