As a canadian myself, i can say that i'm proud to have bands like RUSH and Triumph coming from our country, another great 3 piece canadian band, also the drummer in Triumph, Gil Moore is also a lead singer. If you interviewed Rik Emmett, he would talk your ear off. A friend of mine, Anne Erickson, interviewed him for her RU-vid channel, Audio Ink Radio, a couple of times, and his responses would carry on and on. I'm sure if you reached out to him, he would be glad to be interviewed. He could tell you stories about Triumph, but also his post-Triumph days as well as his teaching music and songwriting at Humber College in Toronto.

Great band. You should have her watch Fight the Good Fight from the US Festival. His vocals are terrific.

It was weird how underrated they were, yet they would still sell out an arena two nights every time they came through town in the 80's. Loved seeing them live.

Not to take away from Rik, but when the drummer plays and sings at the same time, THAT earns my respect!

I will stop complaining now. You finally did Triumph! Rick's voice is excellent. He makes it seem so effortless at the high ranges. I have watched vocal coaches reacting to his singing and they are mezmerized. Some said they will show their students his clips to demonstrate how to properly do mixed voice. Thanks for reviewing.

Man this takes me back, such a great band. You know you're good when you're a 3 piece band that sounds so hmfull. Something in the Canadian water back then . We were all crushing on Rick at the time, so talented. He still does small acoustic gatherings, wish I could have seen them Live.

HUGE Canadian Band, I never knew of them until I moved from Alabama to northern Minnesota and all we got was Canadian stations out of Winnipeg. Head Pins are worth a listen as well.

Despite the added crowd sounds, this was the studio version. To get the full power and awesomeness of Triumph, you must listen to the live version from 1983s US Festival. Also, the song Never Surrender from the same US Festival show will blow your mind! And listen When The Lights Go Down from the same show to hear Dummer Gil Moore sing lead while playing drums.

If you get to more Triumph, and I hope you do, check out the 1983 US Festival footage. Saw them in the early 80's, just after they added the lasers to their live shows, and they were great. Rik is a fantastic talent.

Saw these guy's live in Amarillo Tx 1983, one of the best Concerts I've ever been to.

Triumph! Rik Emmett is incredibly talented. I remember he came to the music store I used to teach at like 20 years ago and conducted a seminar/live Q&A session. I didn't know he had such great classical guitar chops. Great guy as well.

He sang as great as he played, one of a kind.

There are power trio’s and there is Triumph. Such a great band.

Rik also is a song writer as well. Rik WAS in a glam band in around 1973 for about a yr. called Justin Paige. They even have an album that Rik played on. Spelling of his first name was Rick back then. His memoir has photos of them on stage with their cross dressing clothes and makeup. It was quite the look.

Please watch them at US festival 83, they were phenomenal! Love your show!

Well, Alexis, if you or your hubby ever listen to classic rock radio, you've undoubtedly heard them at one point or another. It's a staple! Never surrender, magic power, etc. you have to listen to magic power. A perfect explanation of what music meant to us Gen Xers. Great lyrics, and music!

Another band that you might not be very familiar with that you should check out is UFO. They were a major influence on bands like Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Metallica and Guns N' Roses. I would suggest Lights Out, Love To Love, Doctor Doctor and Too Hot To Handle to start with from their live album "Strangers In The Night" - largely considered one of the best live rock albums ever recorded.

Triumph...a great Canadian export! Loved the band back in the 70's when I first heard them!

I saw Triumph, The Sport Of Kings tour in Norman, Oklahoma, while stationed at Fort Sill Oklahoma and Rik Emmet solo twice here in Utah.

It was more of their peak around 82-85. My favorite concert was in 1983, Never Surrender Tour. Magic Power should be your next Triumph listen.

I saw Triumph at the Capital Center in DC. I think in 1980 or 81. I was shocked years later because of all the shows I have seen it was the loudest big venue show I had ever seen. Loudest small venue show was the 1st time I saw KIX at the old Hammerjacks in Baltimore.

One of rock's most underappreciated bands, in part due to Rush being the bigger 3 piece band out of Canada. Magic Power, Little Texas Shaker, Fight the good fight, Hold on, Never surrender, Somebody's out there, Spellbound all great songs and more!

Still to this day one of the best shows i've ever seen from back in the early 80's (on tour with Zebra) and still in my rotation to this day 🙂

Triumph is GREAT. I promise if you play their song Fight The Good Fight from their performance "Live At The US Festival' you wont believe it. It's a truly live version from the US Festival back in 83 0r 84. This song and performance blew every band off the stage including headliner Van Halen. I believe there was over 500,000 in attendance. Rik Emmett absolutely shines as does Triumphs other two band members. Unbelievable 3 man band.

They were such a well-oiled-machine when they played live. The band has a lot of positive songs. And his music inspired me through some tough times in life. Hold On, In the Night, Fight the Good Fight, Never Surrender, Writing on the Wall, Time Goes By, Take a Stand, Never say Never, His solo stuff: Let Love Conquer All, Stand and Deliver, Only a Fool, The Longing, Way Back Home, Find Your Way, etc, etc, etc. (His music is the soundtrack of my soul : ) In his prime he would sing and routinely hit an E5. Although recently at the age of 70, he said he said he can only hit an A5 so he'll tune the music down, to stay in tune. He has said he would consider himself - first a writer, then a singer, and then a guitarist. Which is probably accurate... and completely nuts... because he is a phenomenal guitarist. Also... and most importantly. Rik is a gentleman. A kind and humble guy. Talks to fans, responds to mail, and makes a connection with us as we journey through life.

First album i got was Sport of Kings, got the rest soon afterwards. I had a friend ask me if I wanted this album because it was to heavy( his words) for him, I said sure. Loved it , thanks Kenny.

Ricks voice is incredible but he Never gets his due for his guitar playing. He's a beast on the guitar. And they had a big catalog of hits. Magic power, never surrender, hold on ,allied forces..... Incredible band!

An amazing Canadian band

I listened to and liked their music when it was on the radio but never bought an album. I started watching them live a few years ago on RU-vid and became much more of a fan.

Rik could hit F-Sharp anytime he wanted to. There are very few people who can do it. Steve Perry visited Rik after a show and said he was impressed by Rik's high D and E. Rik is a better guitarist than singer. He's a solid top 5 and can play almost anything and play with feeling. He's also a great writer, comic, artist and teacher. Triumph had the #1 concert in rock for a few years. Yep, they beat Van Halen and The Jacksons. As far as song suggestions go, many folks will suggest tunes that ranked well in the rock charts, and you should check out 'Magic Power' and 'Fight the Good Fight'. I, however feel that their best tunes are rarely requested. So, 'Blinding Light Show', 'The City (all of it in 2 parts)', 'In The Night', "Just a Game', 'Young Enough to Cry', 'I Live for the Weekend', 'Hard Road', 'Ordinary Man', 'Little Boy Blues', Hold On (album version, not the radio edit)', 'Allied Forces', 'Rock and Roll Machine (live Stages album or live at the US Festival)'

Overshadowed by Rush, Triumph is a criminally underrated 3 player band from Canada. Rik Emmett can play and sing, both with great skill.

Triumph is one of my all time favorite bands. Back in the cassette era I bought every single one of their tapes. Glad to see you did a video on them! If you haven’t already you need to check out their live performance from the US Festival 83.

Rik is an underrated guitar god and vocalist.

Fun little fact. Back in the 80s friends and I every Friday Night we would go out. Each of us had stereos with tape decks and 100 watt speakers in our cars. So at some point we were trying to find a new sound keep in mind this was a new wave era. One day in a little store called Sam Goodys I was Flipping through the cassetts and I see this really cool album cover of a V Neck guitar with the word Triumph above it. Album name Allied Forces for the cover alone I bought the cassette.. Brought it Friday Night to our night of fun, My friend popped into his cassette deck. In our amaze we found our sound. This is how I discovered Triumph this was 1986 been a fan ever since.

This song: "The Blinding Light Show" is one of the best of their songs. The arrangement is brilliant. It's a must listen.

Oh man, such a great band to take a dive into... Allied Forces, start to finish, just a brilliant album and one i still go back to often. Rik and Gil both kill it on vocals and Rik of course on lead guitar, but an all around great band. You need to do anything from the US Festival in 83, whole show is brilliant and also available now on DVD. Also with you on Rik and his later acoustic, just a great all around musician.

Triumph was and still is an amazing band . Rik Emmett’s vocal range is unmatched in my opinion. I’ve seen them twice . Once in ‘85 and ‘86 . Solo in ‘99 and ‘17 . If you want a great live version of lay it on the line , watch A night of Triumph live in Halifax 1987 . Rick Santer was an additional guitarist and Rik showed his true colors on the solo . I have all of the albums except Edge of excess after Rik left

Anything from their best album Allied Forces like Fight The Good Fight, Magic Power, and Ordinary Man were all radio hits. Triumph also does a version of Rocky Mountain Way from their Rock and Roll Machine album. They were heavier than most thought they were. Fun listen.

This is on my all time playlist. My high school love turned me on to Triumph & her. 🔥😎

You should have interviewed Rik. Along with being a great singer, an incredible guitarist, he is a master storyteller that makes for a fun interview.

Always liked Triumph and Rik is as talented as they come. You should try a deep cut called "Nature's Child."

For everyone who's saying in the comments about how good and underrated Triumph was, they at least saw a lot of commercial success in America. Alexis & Burch for another Canadian band who has all the qualities Triumph had (tremendous songwriting, vocals & harmonies, and amazing guitar work) please check out Harem Scarem. A band who unfortunately did not see the commercial success Triumph had in America because they were signed to Warner Music Canada (and never got an American album release).

They didn't hit a stride of popularity in the US, at least here in California, until the early '80s! Great band! "Fight The Good Fight" is probably my favorite from them..........and check out pretty much anything from their performance at the "83 US Festival....which is legendary!

Triumph the definition of rock stars, i saw them live twice 79 and 85, incredible band, 3 member band think about that, rik was one of the best vocalists and lead guitar in all of 70's n 80's rock n metal the best music ever created, if you love that one check fight the good fight and magic power, in the live u s festival 1983 videos before 350,000 fans, open air festival their 79 its just a game album is every bit as great as boston's debut 76 album imo, every track on both fire! my favs suitecase blues its just a game hold on

Birch you got it wrong, Triumph were pioneers in stage lighting and special effects.Strobe lights, fire, lasers, flash pots, mist from dry ice,etc.They even have a song called the Blinding Light Show. I'd say their only real competition would have been Kiss at the time when they were still touring.
