My favorite thing about Eddie, he's always smiling. NO other guitarist smiles as much as Eddie. You can tell he really enjoys playing. I've never seen that with anyone else in my lifetime.
Eddie van Halen made all his own guitars. Also the drummer was Eddie's brother. David Lee Roth was the lead singer. Eddie was one of the best guitar players of all time. 🥺💙
I had no idea. I grew up in the 80s and Van Halen was a staple on the radio in our house. RIP Also your reactions are the wholesome break from reality we need right now.
Hey, these dudes are just learning about Van Halen, they are not experts. We don't got to be condescending. Eddie is the lead guitarist, the lead singer is David Lee Roth. Both legendary.
I think it's sort of sweet. I mean to be fair it is unusual for a band to be named after a lead guitarist (note we don't have a band called Sambora!). It is of course telling in a very nice way that despite the attention-grabbing antics of the exceptionally talented ham sandwich that is DLR (said with love) they spent a lot of time "accidentally" commenting on the inescapably exceptional talent of EVH. It all comes out in the wash! I find it refreshing that they aren't doing a deep dive, it's just an honest take from a place of genuine well-meaning curiosity. Cool.
I understand why so many said “Jump;” it’s a fun song-featuring David Lee Roth. To experience the genius of Eddie, listen to “Eruption/You Really Got Me.” This is a hard loss.
Yes. They might not have even understood that Eddie was the guitar player & not the lead singer here. Eddie’s guitar solo on Eruption is the best thing to react to. It is a hard loss. A huge piece of our youth is gone...
Geez...in like just the past week, so many have gone. EVH, Nash (as you mentioned), plus Helen Reddy and Mac Davis. 2020 is like the gift we can’t return.
Facts...they gotta show the brother Johnny Nash some love since they gave Van Halen some love on his RIP day. I Can See Clearly Now is a certified classic track. Peace
Yeah I stopped watching as soon as they clearly didn't take 5 seconds to look into who actually died. Especially after stating they "did some research" This was a really disappointing video to the point of embarrassing.
@@bhill1334 Yes. These two don’t seem authentic in their reactions, in my humble opinion. I think it’s all about subscribers. If you want authentic reactions check out ru-vid.com.
If you are honest a lot of people don’t know that David Lee Roth wasn’t one of the Van Halen brothers who started the band and that’s why there was so many problems with the group and David Lee left repeatedly
Eddie had that impish & boyish grin. Like he was about to cause some trouble but wasn't going to let anyone in on his secret. I see why Valerie fell in love with that smile. It's infectious - you can't help but smile back. And, his 2 handed, fast fingered playing style was unreal. RIP EVH 👍🎶🎸👏💔
Yeah and Alex makes the bass drums sound like a loping idle hot rod in the beginning. SUPER ill number. Jump was great too, but kinda was "just the tip" on 1984.
When y’all get around to reacting to Michael Jackson’s “Beat it” song that’s Eddie Van Halen on lead guitar. He was considered the best rock guitarist of the time and you know Michael only wanted the best!
I'm 2 years into being a guitarist, and when you look up RU-vid tutorial videos on how to play Eddie's solos, you'll see Eddie was no joke. He did this thing with sliding from fret to fret, finger style playing, "hammer offs" and "hammer ons", he could get 3-4 notes from 1-2 finger movements. Amazing dude!!! Will be sorely missed.....
Kwesi Harrison Ummm first that’s your opinion second when Michael recorded “Beat it” Hendrix was long since dead and there’s no way Prince would do a guitar solo for his competition.
David Lee roth is the singer Eddie is the guitarist with the yellow striped jacket. He was amazing. His guitar is named Frankenstein. R.I.P.Eddue you will be missed. Rest in music.
Dear Twins, You need to stop listening to the "mainstream audience" about your choice for this song reaction. True Van Halen fans know their first album + tour made Eddie & Van Halen the legends that they are today. I saw their first concert in 1978 when they opened for Black Sabbath and blew them away just by performing all of their songs from their first album.
“Panama”, “Hot for Teacher”, and “Runnin’ With The Devil” are classics. But for pure Eddie, “Eruption” is vital. RIP Eddie. 💔😭 I was fortunate enough to have seen them once (with Dave in front). Glad I had that opportunity. 💜
I saw him shortly after he married Valerie. His guitar was fierce AF and he was wearing a wedding band. It blew my mind that he was married to Barbara Cooper. RIP.
Not just his guitars, but also his amplifiers. He used to run them on a bit higher voltage than they should, to get out that bit of extra crunch. Resulting on them not lasting for very long, but that doesn't matter, especially if it comes to capture that very special sound on tape to make a record.
Yes Twins read the comments that you can see that Eddie Van Halen wasn’t the front man just as Kool in Kool & the Gang isn’t the frontman for that iconic group
Even if some people make comments about you getting things wrong such as which one was Eddie Van Halen, or how to pronounce a band name, I just want to say that it shows me how pure your reactions are. It shows the innocence and open eyes and ears you have when you approach these. This is part of what puts you above other reaction videos that feel rehearsed. Thank you for inviting us into your experiences.
👏👏👏 Well said. It's refreshing to hear 2 young men with such open minds and open hearts share their love and appreciation for all types of music. Such positivity and inclusivity is what we all need right now. ❤✌
Facts...they gotta show the brother Johnny Nash some love since they gave Van Halen some love on his RIP day. Johnny Nash's version of I Can See Clearly Now is the certified original version of the song. Peace
Eddie played that INCREDIBLE guitar solo in Michael Jackson's "BEAT IT." Born in the 80s raised in the 90s. My childhood and preteen years were riddled with awesome artists!! Much respect to those artists who uplifted us through every emotion and every mood we were going through!! Sometimes its one stream of music that can speak for us when words won't cut it. Rest in Power, Eddie!!🎸🎧🎵 To those who read this, be safe and look out for one another!! Love to all!! ☺💙
Eddie was reluctant to do the gig because he and the rest of the band agreed never to do solo projects/gigs. However while his bandmates were out of town he agreed with producer Quincy Jones to do the solo on three conditions. 1. He would never get credited for the work because he didn't want the other members of Van Halen to know. 2. He didn't get paid because it was done as a favor and all he wanted in return was a case of beer. 3. He asked Michael to teach him how to dance. And there you go guys!! A bit of music history!! *And as I wrote that last point, I just remembered my dance recital back in '97... Music really does awaken the memory as well as the soul. Love to all 😊💙
Eddie, guitar and Alex, drums were brothers and classically trained pianists winning competitions at age 10. David Lee Roth was one of the top front men in Rock and Roll. RIP Eddie.
Eddie VanHalen is considered one of the best ever guitarists. He’s the guy in the black/yellow striped jacket. His brother is on the drums. They started the band and brought in the bass player and the lead singer David Lee Roth.Ck out their song “Running WithThe Devil”. Eddie VanHalen is lit on his guitar in it! He battled cancer for over 20 years, was married to Valerie Bertanelli (sp?).
Yeah,I Love the twins Reaction channel but they didn't know Eddie Van Halen was THE LEAD GUIDARIST OF this group..David Lee R oth was lead Singer. From Bon Kaslon🦉😻
@@bonniekaslon6534Don't we all ❤ these 'most endearing college twins... ever' because of their naivete and joy in the music? They don't know what or who does what - and, given the physically gifted DLR's propensity to dominate the screen in a video, many 1st time viewers reacting to a song attributed to the guitar genius, Eddie Van Halen, might assume that the 'star' of the video is DLR... (esp as Eddie was on keyboards too). Ie let's all cut enthusiasts slack!...Especially when they are young! Especially when they are incorrect! All ❤ to you spreading your knowledge and 💘 of music ... and Special 💕 ♥️ 🙏 and Gratitude to Eddie Van Halen RIP
I'm so glad you posted this! As soon as I heard the news I told Alexa to play "Jump" by Van Halen and as I was listening I hoped that someone would "tell the twins" they need to hear it, so you two have warmed my heart again. RIP Eddie and thanks for adding so many great riffs to the soundtrack of my life. 🎸💜
The lead singer DavidLee Roth ended up being an EMT in NYC for awhile after the band added. Can you imagine getting hurt and having him rescue you and seeing him ride in the ambulance with you.
They should have done a little research on who exactly Van Halen was. The quiet dude in the background playing the guitar. Ironically was the wildest one out of the band
Eddie brought guitar alive. Everybody tried to mimicking his style. Very very hard to try to learn his style. He was for sure one of a kind. They broke the mold when God made him. He will so so be missed in the music world. They sure made Big Hair 80's a beginning and led the rest of the on. If you really want to hear his style guys listen to him do Eruption R.I.P Eddie sure gonna miss you. Prayers to Valorie and Wolfgang.
Eddie was like a modern day Mozart. As others have said, that’s his brother, Alex Van Halen on drums. This band was lightning in a bottle: the voice and showmanship (not to mention athletic ability) of lead singer David Lee Roth, and very talented bass player and vocalist Michael Anthony. They changed rock ‘n roll with their style, sent it in a direction that never would have been possible without them.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. Still puts a smile on my face seeing a couple new faces discover and appreciate the music I grew up on
"the smiling guitarist"...when I told my dad Eddie Van Halen died, the first thing he said was "wow...I always remember he had a great, natural smile". What a wonderful way to be remembered, rest in peace Eddie Van Halen.
I’ve never seen a musician smile so much while performing. It’s genuine. Ironically, this does not show off Eddie’s incredible guitar playing. Actually, he crafted this song himself on the synth. One of a kind. A true Legend. 🎸
Somebody posted a link to Eddie doing "Eruption" live. Since so many commenters mentioned it in this thread, I ha d to check it out, and I get it now, this guy was amazing.....
DANNY U ARE SOOO RIGHT!!! He did always have that sweet smile. You could tell he was a good person and a good father to Wolfgang and everything and he was not full of himself even though he had every right to be because he is amazing and a true guitar legend. But his sweet genuine nature made him even more special and he’s the reason why many people Have learned guitar or kept us all smiling all these years since 1978. RIP EDDIE 😭♥️♥️♥️
Oh but I loved this song. I recall being in our inner city, predominantly black elementary school jumping around to this song. Great music is universal. Rest in heaven Eddie.
Tim/Fred, Their "Eruption/You Really Got Me" really showcases Eddie's guitar work. Especially the 13 minute live solo version of "Eruption". Eddie is lead guitar and keyboards on this song
@@jeannielineberry2280 Nope. Slash was probably still in High School. EVH was one of the reasons that so many people, who weren't necessarily MJ fans, were groovin' on "Beat It".
You both did a awesome tribute to a legendary musician. He always had a smile on his face and he made you feel like you were at a really cool party, it is so very cool of you two to show such respect, please keep doing what you do.i love watching you react to the music that inspired so many of us.YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
Van Halen invented the entire 80's hair band genre; the music, the hair, the outfits, the stage show, the preferred instruments, all of it. They do not at ALL get enough credit for starting so many new things, and they started all that in the SEVENTIES along side Zeppelin and other legends. They took people off Zeppelin....Zeppelin....and moved them to a new musical place. That is L E G E N D.
Lord, I was a toddler, when it came out. But then good stuff isn't forgotten the next year. I fear though, that Jump is the only song most people remember, since it's- honestly- overplayed. Not a Van Halen, nerd myself, but Jump problably wasn't the best choice in this case. A fun song though. For focus on Eddie, I personally would have chosen Eruption.
The lead singer, David Le Roth, is also a martial artist, which is no doubt where he got some of his jumps from. It’s mentioned in the comments already but Eddie was the guitarist, formerly married to actress, Valerie Bertinelli. As mentioned, that was his solo on Michael Jackson’s Beat It, which became a classic among pop rock solos.
Also never took copyright for the guitar solo.... did it as a favor to micheal jackson... for the love of music... in an interview sd everybody in the band, family and friends gave him crap
I'm 2 years into being a guitarist, and when you look up RU-vid tutorial videos on how to play Eddie's solo, you'll see Eddie was no joke. He did this thing with sliding from fret to fret, finger style playing, and other tricks that are fairly hard for even good guitarist to master
Awesome that you guys got on to honor EVH tonight. ❤️. Your open mindedness, respectful and light hearted commentaries are a perfect example of what we need more of in this country right now! Your both a breath of fresh air! Keep up the great work and thanks again for taking time to honor one of the greatest guitar players ever- Even if you got him confused with DLR for a second.😉 (That just goes to show how “real” your reactions are!!)
Thank you for the nice tribute to the greatest rock guitarist of all time. Glad you enjoyed this track. If you want to hear more of the music that made him a legend you will definitely enjoy his Eruption guitar solo (the live without a net version has superior audio and camera work). Many consider that the single greatest rock guitar solo of all time. When you review that, you will understand the outpouring of love and sadness his fans feel at his passing. Thanks again and so glad to see your growing success. (I got a kick out of your appearance on The NBA on TNT a few weeks ago).
Correct, Kim, how can they mix that up!! David Lee Roth (blonde) lead vocal and Eddie Van Halen (dark hair, former husband to Valerie Bertinelli) lead guitar.
Hello!! You two are just AMAZING!! Remembering in love a musical legend and listening to "Jump" in his honor and wishing his family the best during this time just makes my heart so happy!! Love listening to you and reacting with you!! Blessings and Peace and Health to you and your loved ones🙏🌹🙏
Hey, Tim - Eddie was your kind of guy: "I don't feel a day older when it comes to my approach to music or what gets me off than when I was a teenager. I've always been into different kinds of stuff and when I play I like to play loud. I like my arm hairs to move and I like my body to vibrate 'cause I like the feel of it; I'm still a teenager at heart."
Yep, that was the cut from the "1984" album, Panama. All my "Soul Brother" friends couldn't understand why that was the cut I would play when speeding down the expressway in my brand new Camaro in 1984 (listening to "1984" {chuckle} ). "Reach down between my legs, ease the seat back...." Great video also, simple and fun like this one, even more energy. David Lee Roth said they spent $200 dollars on those videos, and half of that was beer and chips....
I loved what I just saw!! Even though you think Eddie is the lead singer, you zoomed in on the real Eddie's guitar playing with seriousness and you gave the cred to the guitar player!! I love your ear for that without influence. AlSo now everyone will finally believe you guys are being REAL! You are authentic! That's why we are here
Yeah, they showed us they are real, so everybody gives them a pass, cause he still took us back to what was my college, cheap beer and cold pizza college days, best of time for me, the biggest life problem was getting together $7 for pizza.....
@@marydiesch yep, my "soul Brother" friends was tripping on how I got into MTV and cats like Van Halen. David Lee just represented "having fun" to me. When I saw those "Jump" and "Panama" videos from the "1984" album, I was hooked. The garage bands in my all black town all played rock anyway, because it was easier to showcase their guitar skills as opposed to with Soul/R&B, I was in college from 79-84, so it was the perfect time for me, when these cats ruled MTV
I'm so happy that you both are willing to listen to all kinds of music and different era's of music. Very open minded, which is very rare in young people today. Most stick with what they know and don't experience other types of music. Just a friendly thing I want to say! Eddie Van Halen was the dark hair guy in the black and yellow playing the guitar. David Lee Roth was the singer. Just letting you know. You can check him out on Wikipedia. Very interesting! Have a blessed day!! I love watching you both. I am new and I was binge watching for hours yesterday. I enjoy your spirits! Take care! 💕💕
Alex Van Halen as the drummer, they called him the timepiece for the group. Sometimes with Eddie's crazy solo's it could be easy for most mortals to find where to come back in. Alex never seemed to have that problem, kept them all together. Underrated drummer, I hardly ever hear him mentioned and I would wonder why if it weren't for the fact that we know everybody was watching his brother.
Not sure if so, but it sounds like you though Eddie was the lead singer. He was the guitarist. Jump is a good song but it's not Eddie at his prime. Please check out his Eruption solo live in Connecticut 1986!! One of the greatest guitar performances of all time!!!
I just told them Jump was not a song that showcased Eddie’s Genius & To Watch His Solo “Eruption”...”Live without a Net”Tour...Nobody‼️Past Present Future will ever be close to being/becomîng Sir Edward Van Halen
David Lee Roth, lead singer (we all know that but the twins don't) said they spent $100 on that video, and half of that was on beer and chips!!! Just a fun band to watch. Eddie Van Halen, he was on most people's list of one of the top 10 guitarists of all time, along with Hendrix, Santana, Eric Clapton, Prince, and all the other greats....
