after some research, I learned that this song has multiple meanings. One was about suicide. Lord. That completely went over my head. Van Halen surprised the shit out of me! :) lord.
It was really just the for the video, this was just before David left so there was so much tension in the band, i bet that after the cameras went off they all told each other to fuck off
Yeah, no matter what was going behind the scenes, from what everybody ever in the band says in interviews, they enjoyed and had more fun onstage than just about any band you can mention.
Rest in Peace to one of the greatest. Jimmy Hendrix was great. Stevie Ray Vaughan was great. Johnny Cash was great. Eddie Van Halen was great and like all others, will live on forever. Enjoy that great big gig in the sky Eddie, RIP
It was 100% Talent... Showmanship was just a bonus... Unlike today you had to really had chops back then... There was no auto-tune it was none in the studio to help you... 100% talent
A couple of EVH facts: Eddie Van Halen placed one of his iconic guitars in Dimebag Darrell's casket at his funeral. Also, the guitar solo in Michael Jackson's "Beat It" is an uncredited Eddie Van Halen.
Eddie is the reason stratocaster bodied guitars have Humbuckers and why modern guitar amplifiers have distortion. Also made two-hand hammer-ons popular
Panama by Van Halen is a classic. I'd also compare them to the Hagar stuff. "Dreams" and "Right Now" are arguably that eras best. David is the talented front man while Sammy is a much better singer
Chris B I think that’s a good idea and the work they did with Sammy Hagar is so much better. Sammy is a much better singer and the rest of this band is exceptional but I’ve just never cared much for David Lee Roth.
xSOILBORNx AGREE!! Eddie Van Halen, Alex and the boys are much too talented to have David Lee Roth with them. Sammy Hagar deserves to be in this band and van Halen is one of the best- Sammy Hagar has an incredible voice and it blends well with all of the musicians.
To all you Van Hagar fans...the ONLY reason you even know about Van Halen is because of DLR and Eddie. If Hagar had been the original lead singer they would have gone NOWHERE. he is the better singer no question but.... Rock has never been about the greatest singer... You ever really listened to AC/DC???? They had the 2 worst singers in history and still rocked it out. Van Halen were great when they were young and didn't give a damn. Once they decided they wanted to try to grow up and play more sophisticated music they turned into Foreigner with a great lead guitarist. Hagar although a good singer has the stage presents of a moldy cucumber. He climbed onto a train that was already rolling. He changed Van Halen from a band that young girls liked to a band that middle-aged dudes liked. Maybe that's not a bad thing if you're a middle-aged dude but to me they never made a record as good as the first one and never made a single as good as Jump. The more they tried for pop success with Sammy Hagar and his sappy whiny tunes the worse they got. They should never have tried to grow up But I guess it was inevitable. I have NEVER heard a woman say "that tubby little Sammy Hagar is SOOOO Hot. When they lost Dave, they became sexless and whiney.
Skid Row- The looks and the pipes. Check out “ I remember you” or “18 and life”, Sebastian Bach was beautiful in the 80’s , oh yeah “Youth gone wild”! He could sing his ass off, I mean really rock, was so good looking, I think he still performs on 🎭 Broadway! Check out Skid Row, great 80’s band that got credit for the music not just being pretty like the glam rock bands!
He was my first crush in like 6th grade. He was looking way rough there for a while. But most of the hair bands did in like their 40s. Except Brett but his diabetes made him take care of his body sooner and more consistently.
Dude. You need to do a reaction to "Eruption" by Van Halen. Also, Van Halen was one of the top bands late 70's and nearly all 80's....awesome concerts. David Lee Roth was into martial arts and took a lot of that to the stage as performance!
You have to know this fact: Eddie (the guitar player) created an amplifier called 5150 along with the brand Peavey, which is used by A LOT of the metal bands now a days. That amp gave the "sound" of the modern era of metal :)
So true! They totally shaped the sound the sound of Rock & Roll! Everyone wanted Eddie's sound. No one played a guitar like that before him. Now EVERY band wants that style with a twist of their own.
@@barbaravance6774 yes! I am a guitar player and the actual sound of guitars in metal mostly comes from that amp and the influence of Eddie. I'm not a big big fan of the band but I really like several songs of them. If you can "hear" an example of that "sound" in Van Halen, listen "Don't Tell me".. is really heavy! Also listen "Ten ton hammer" of Machine Head, that album (an many of MH) were recorded using that amp :)
It has a lot to do with the fact that the full stack, not the combo, only sounds really good at full volume. Maybe cuz Eddie was already pretty deaf when he designed them.
The story was that they wasted most of the video's budget on beer and cocaine so thats why the video looks cheap compared to the other music videos of the 80's... still they had fun filming XD and most of them were drunk during the video (Eddie and roth defs high aswell)
@@ShujinTribble *Wooooaaaa, wait a minute! Apparently you mixed up some informations. Eddie Van Halen did of course the guitar solo in Michael Jackson's "Beat It". Rick Derringer reproduced the guitar solo for "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Eat It".*
(*BLINK*) Well.... damnit! Totally correct! So this is what happens when you reply to someone too late at night. Sorry for the screw up on my side, and thanks for correcting ME! Have a great day, man.... and Rock On!
@@JAYTHEBEAST2 . Those whiney ass Van Hagar love songs. Van Halen in name ONLY. That's Van Hagar...totally different band on s totally different mission. Love songs and Van Halen just don't mix ...to ME. Some folks love 'em
Dimebag wanted Eddie to stripe a guitar for him, yellow and black, but before Eddie could Dime died. So Eddie brought his classic yellow and black guitar to the funeral and buried it with Dime.
A few weeks ago, I fulfilled one of my bucket list lines and went skydiving. The moment the instructor said " get ready ", this song started sounding in my my head and I jumped!!!! Thanks to VH the scary parts became exhilarating....... I went ahead and jump....!!!!
Yes I love Europe. They have a song called "in my time" the emotion norum plays thru the guitar is amazing. It was written about his wife dying. Also Scream of Anger is very good.
Michael Anthony's voice is the most under-rated in all of music history. In all variation if Van Halen (and other bands he has been in) his backing vocals are the single thing that makes you wanna sing along.
Man Van Halen was the perfect chemistry at the perfect time! Marriage made in heaven, really. Dave's - well- Persona, Eddie's crazy happy self, Michael's cool laid back groove, and Alex's fire behind those drums! It just worked, and it worked well until those egos finally got the better of them. Musically, FUCKING AWESOME! Their music defined that generation, basically. From the mystical progressive occultism of the 70's in Led Zeppelin, Van Halen personified the "Who gives a shit, let's party, have a line on my girlfriend's butt!" attitude of the 80's. If there is one band that defines my memories of the early 80's and Mustangs and women on Mustangs, it is this band! It was that chemistry man!
David directed the video and It was nominated for three MTV Video Music Awards, and won "Best Stage Performance"...Also stayed at #1 on Billboard for I think 5 or 6 weeks, not too bad for what was to happen next aka new lead singer! :-)~
Wow, talk about a time machine! I’m transported to ‘84, senior in college, addicted to MTV...wish I had a dime for every time I watched this vid. MTV had it on *heavy* rotation. Thanks! This was fun to watch.
Just my $.02 so please don't take this as a personal attack, but Def Leppard is entirely overrated. It's cool if people like them. I don't dislike them (most of the time). They have catchy tunes. It's just that everything about them is derivative. Even their name is a Zeppelin rip-off. When it comes to the hair bands, there's Van Halen and a bunch of runner-ups and Miss Congenialities.
@@maggierezac5820 ...what about Pink Floyd? They're rock gods. They're the original prog rock band. Practically nothing about Floyd is derivative. I love Pink Floyd and am happy to talk about them, but I'm pretty confused as to why you'd ask about Floyd in response to comments about Van Halen and Def Leppard.
@@chrisd7047 I'm sorry I misspoke above, weird day yesterday! I was just adding the goodness of Pink Floyd to the list of bands with great "vocals & showmanship" to the OP here. Hell, I could even add Fleetwood Mac & that too would be apropos. Sorry for the confusion. Peace!
You already know Demon Hunter- I Play Dead or Artificial Light King 810 - Braveheart, Trauma Model, murder murder murder Red- What You Keep Alive, Darkest Part, Evening Hate
Jump is a feel good timeless classic! Killer guitar solo with a keyboard and syncopated drum duet. Fun music with killer technique hidden within! Roth was never a singer but arguably the best front man of that era. Alex was pushing boundaries with his double bass drumming skills and Eddie a guitar god to many. You are probably dead inside if you cannot smile when listening to jump...Proud that they were my band of choice when I was a teenager.
1984. I was all of 11 years old and David Lee Roth became my first rock star crush. Watch any of Van Halen's videos and you will see that they were always laughing at themselves and looked like they were having tons of fun. Not sure if that was the case as there were major egos clashing behind the scenes I've heard. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
LOL "oh shit with the high kick" love it, that was a great reaction to David Lee Roth who at this point in Van Halen's career was the front man, they have had a few but I think in now a days times David Lee Roth is back in the band, but he also had a relatively successful solo career, check out "Yankee Rose", or "just a gigalo" from his solo album. Dave is kind of a diva though that's why glam rock was a good fit lol
@@AlexHefner I also would HIGHLY recommend Yankee Rose and if you do it HAS to be THIS version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OAaixxSn_Lg.html I NEED to see you react to this version, in fact I just subscribed to the channel in the hopes that you do.
Mark Kerns I think Eddie Van Halen was listed number five or six within the top 10 guitar players ever and with Jimi Hendrix that number one that’s not bad. Brian May from Queen was given an honorable mention at number 11. I’m thinking Eddie was number five. All of them were outstanding and it’s not that I couldn’t disagree or agree but just depends on preference. Nobody could argue that Eddie Van Halen was not in the top 10 because he definitely belongs there and there are all lot of guitar players.
Some of his best recorded work is found on less popular songs, like "Me Wise Magic", "Push comes to Shove", "Pleasure Dome", among many others. He was an astonishingly good rhythm guitar player. His timing and rhythm were and maybe still are unparalleled.
I heard the "world radio premiere" of this song on one of my local rock stations during a snow day off from school in late 1983. I was at my friend's house down the block and we'd just come in for lunch after spending an hour or so sliding down the snowbank under his bedroom window. : )
Okay, now you're digging in to my childhood again Alex lol. Totally not fair doing this the day before I turn 40! So if you've not done any Motley Crue yet (and I didn't see any but just in case I missed it...) I advise these songs: Kickstart my Heart, Dr Feelgood, or home sweet home. Girls, Girls, Girls is a great one too... but you might wanna not watch the "official video" (yay demonetization content!) React or not, definitely some good classic rock tunes to get ya pumped lol! As always, Have a dope ass day my good sir! ^_^
@Christopher Bingham yep, I always keep an eye out for new reactions from Alex. Something about the way he enjoys and really gets into the songs just makes me smile!
This has been my ringtone for probably the past 10 years and whenever the song comes on while I’m partying I get ready to answer a call and sound professional.
My favorite song of all time! Awesome watching someone else enjoy it for the first time. I was 11 when it came out, and this song meant everything to me. Seize the day and go after what you want.
Bro finally some music from the 80's again Maybe some Mötley Crüe next time?🤘🏼🤘🏼i recommend Kickstart My Heart. They have a movie on Netflix also called "The Dirt". Maybe you'd like to check it out because it's awesome
When I lived in Phoenix in the mid '80 till 1991....I was always traveling to L.A. for IBM Software training as I was a software trainer. The guys I hung out with while I was there always took me to a strip club that was featured in Motley Crue's song, "Girls,Girls,Girls"....some of the wildest women I ever saw! I have fond memories of those trips!! My bank account hated those trips though! 😂😂😂😂😂
RIP Eddie and Alex Van Halen thank you for the music they were heavy metal in the 70s and rock in the 80's XOXO Brandi Modrak XOXO means hugs and Kisses.
I can see why there having so much fun they made a Great Song and they know it lol when I play this on keyboard I have to much fun I'll play it 20 times in row lol and Eddie switching from guitar to keyboard and the that keyboard solo what a musician
Baby Boomers? Nah, this is right up Gen X's alley. Gen X was in middle school and high school when this was out. Boomers missed these guys by a little bit.
Bird and the Bee have recently done a covers album of Van Halen songs in there own style .. So you can have the chill out type versions to play late at night. I like what they have done !
Man please react to van halen: eruption live I've been requesting it for months it always gets lost in the comments and now we're one step closer, please do it you wont regret it!
@@FreshMetal80 Yes to all of the above! "Stairway to Heaven" would be the Kennedy Awards Center of the year of??? Can't remember but Jimmy Page did let a tear slip & that was cool! She also did the song "Alone" when THEY were inducted into the Kennedy Awards Center, I think... been awhile.
DLR is known as one of rocks best front men. Also this was the video i saw, when i was a little girl im 45 now..but once i saw Alex Van Halens drum kit and Drumming that was it i was for ever a drummer fan. And still am to this day. 🤘🥁
