The lead singer/ band leader David Coverdale just turned 70, and says he plans to retire soon... Whitesnake has a 2022 tour w/ the Scorpions, which should be a fun rock concert. The Scorpions are also pushing 70, and this may be a good opportunity to see them live before they may be gone 4 ever... 😪Like Pantera, Type O Negative, Motorhead, the Ramones, Queen (the original), Dio, Led Zeppelin...

i saw a show in the late 90s, Whitesnake, Scorpions and Dokken...they were all past their prime then. The .Scorpions were the best of the 3, but Sykes was with Whitsnake, he was awesome

@@raymo6795 Sykes was fired from Whitesnake in 1987... The tour (Whitesnake/ Scorpions/ Dokken) tour was in 2003... a friend of mine went to that one. I believe Whitesnake was Coverdale, w/ Doug Aldrich & Reb Beach (guitars), Marco Mendoza (bass) & Tommy Aldridge (drums)... there's a DVD from that 2003/ '04 tour - 'Live in the still of the night'

@@sumonjamal1653 …that is right, I meant to type Reb Beach, I had Jon Sykes on my mind.Reb did a good job, he is great, but he was playing Jon’s music, which, imo, is Whitesnake’s best music. But I thought the show was not that good, they were playing to a small crowd, and they looked old, and well past their prime
@sumonjamal1653
@sumonjamal1653 2 года назад
@@raymo6795 Whitesnake had not toured America in over a decade before their 2002 reunion. Scorpions were coming off their weakest release 'Eye II eye' in 1999... so I'm sure the crowd was small. However, I saw Whitesnake w/ Judas Priest in 2009, and it was packed (10K+) and again in 2016 at the Fillmore in Silver Springs, MD and it was sold out. And they were fantastic both times 🔥🔥My friend at the show thought they were better than Priest! Scorpions recently sold out Madison Sq. Garden and their Las Vegas residency. Even Iron Maiden was not playing to sellout crowds in 2000 w/ Bruce Dickinson back in the band... they didn't even tour the US much in 2002. But that changed by 2006 - they were packing arenas in the US. Scorpions and Whitesnake will be co-headlining arenas this year. Persistence pays off...

@@sumonjamal1653 I sort of feel that certain types of music don’t lend well to old men. Big hair and spandex begin to look a bit silly on guys in their 60s or even 70s…..or maybe it’s me that is getting old.When I saw Whitesnake, a beach ball was passed around through the audience, and then made its way to the stage. Coverdale kicked the ball, it bounced off the speaker cab, and hit Coverdale in the face….it was sad. Also sad was that all these bands in their heyday played to arenas and crowds of 75000 people. There may have been 1000 people at the arena where I saw them. I remember thinking that I prefer to remember them as they were in the 80s and early 90s, before the grunge and Alt scene took over the airwaves…Don’t get me wrong Sumon, I still listen to The Scorpions, Dokken and Whitesnake, and love it all, but their time is past. I have no interest in seeing any of them perform….Again, maybe it is me that is getting old…rock on Brother✌️🎸🎶

The guitar player is a titanic metal player named John Sykes (he's not in the video). Story goes David Coverdale (singer) used him to help write and record most of the album then fired him right before the album was finished. John's still out there doing his own thang but the combination of his guitar playing and Coverdale's singing on this album was a once-in-a-lifetime combination. Whitesnake was never as famous before or after this one album. Also Journey's drummer Aynsley Dunbar appears on this album though he didn't tour with the band. From the same Whitesnake album I highly recommend the previously unreleased track "You're Gonna Break My Heart Again".
@adnap
@adnap 2 года назад
So, does that mean that Adrian Vandenberg is just playing air guitar to John’s studio recordings in all of the videos ? 😂 I always wondered how it worked. The solos for “Is This Love” and “Crying In The Rain” are probably my favorites solos on the album. Is that John or Adrian ? (Pretty sure CITR is JS) I feel like it’s probably John, but I don’t have the liner notes anymore and it’s been too long to remember accurately.
@cozycooke2040
@cozycooke2040 2 года назад
@@adnap all guitars on the whole album are John Sykes except for the solo on here I go again which is vandenberg. Sykes co wrote most of the tracks as well and then was booted from the band along with the others. Coverdale wasn’t going to share the spotlight with a better looking, guitar playing, songwriting machine so he was kicked from what was obvious jealousy.
@Maizerus
@Maizerus 2 года назад
@@adnap In this video? Yes, basically that's what he's doing. The Still of the Night solo is all John's. I did note most of the album was finished, not all of it. Adrian did record the guitar solo for Here I Go Again. To my knowledge, the world has never heard what Sykes's interpretation of that solo would have been. Also if you can find it, there's a 'video'-only version of Give Me All Your Love Tonight where Vivian Campbell overwrites/replaces Sykes's original studio solo (which in my opinion is not as good as John's).
@cozycooke2040
@cozycooke2040 2 года назад
@@Maizerus agreed. Viv is a great player and his Dio stuff is top class but that solo compared to Johns was just not it. Good solo yes but in comparison Sykes’ is one of the best solos of that era imo.

Whitesnake was formed in the late 70's by lead singer David Coverdale after he had recorded 3 albums w/ Deep Purple. This 1987 'Whitesnake' album was comprised of songs re-recorded from their past catalog. It was a huge success, selling 7 million copies in the US alone. There was some controversy... John Sykes (guitar) played on the record w/ Aynsley Dunbar (drums) & Neil Murray (bass). But the band was fired at the end of the recording sessions. Whitesnake toured and shot videos w/ new members who (mostly) did not play on the album - Adrian Vandenberg & Vivian Campbell (guitars), Rudy Sarzo (bass) and Tommy Aldridge (drums)... Vivian Campbell left Whitesnake after the tour (he joined Def Leppard in 1992) and the band recorded the 1989 album 'Slip of the tongue' w/ guitarist Steve Vai on all tracks. Whitesnake disbanded in 1991, but David Coverdale reformed the band in 2002 and has kept going successfully til today.

One more little factoid on this comment is that all the new members were from different countries. David Coverdale is from the Saltburn by the sea (U.K.) Adrian Vandenberg is from the Netherlands. Tommy Aldridge is from the U.S. Rudy Sarzo is from Cuba and Vivian Campbell is from Belfast (U.K.)

There really wasn't a bad song on this entire album. The album came out in my sophomore year of HS. I took a pre-period at school to take gym early in the morning so that I could have an extra elective during the day. This meant I was walking to school hella early. I had 5 cassette tapes in rotation that I walked to/from school with that year on my WalkMan - along with this one, Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet, Def Leppard's Hysteria, Cinderella's Night Songs, and Journey's Raised on Radio. I wore those tapes out. This was my fav song by Whitesnake ever and used to crank my poor little WalkMan up as loud as it could go when this song came on. RIP the luscious Tawny Kitaen. The only babe I ever had a poster on my wall of.

Hi guys I love your reactions I grew up listening to this band, totally loving it Everybody gets a lil confused about the middle section with the violins. It is played with a synthesizer, while the guitarist is just miming with a violin bow, cos there's no way guitars may sound as that instrument. I am glad you bring back those classic rock bands from the 80s to new generations.

That's Steve Via on Lead Guitar. I thinking I remember ya'll doing the guitar battle from the movie "Crossroads", he's the devil's guitar player in that battle. He also did the guitar work on David Lee Roth's, first singer for Van Halen, first solo album. All, if memory serves me correct here. The girl, one of the sexiest ladies of the 80's without a doubt, is the late Tawny Kitaen. She came to LA as the girl friend of the late Robbin "King" Crosby, former guitar player of Ratt. She's the girl on her hands and knees looking to the cellar on Ratt's album "Out of the Cellar", this is the album that contains my favorite song of theirs "Round and Round".

The funny thing is the guitarist John Sykes played a Cello Bow on his guitar during the solo/slow part during this song. ( The guitar parts were written by John Sykes. ) ( 5:10 ) He was asked if he copied or payed homage to Jimmy Page who made that famous in the song " Dazed and Confused" by LZ? ( There was, at the time, a huge comparison with Whitesnake being the next LZ ) John replied that he didn't know Jimmy did that in a song and that he just came up with it. Now, LZ was one of the most famous bands in the world and Jimmy Page was one of the most influential guitarists of all time. To think if you didn't know that Page had done that and you were a young guitar player is just impossible. John took a lot of shit for it for the next few years.

Not impossible. I mean I'm not famous at all. An LZ is one of my favorites but I didn't know that's how he created the sound. I never saw him do it an it never occured to me that's how he did it. I thot he did it some other way.
