Ahh glad you discovered this gem of a band. I reallh think you would like their song Paradise--What about Us featuring Nightwish's original singer Tarja. Crunchy guitars, awesome vocals catchy as hell. Either the official video or the live version are great..
If you like female vocalists like our Dutch Floor, Within Temptation etc., then try a Dutch band called *EPICA* (with one of Floor's BFF’s, Simone Simons) and also loved by many Nightwish fans. Within Temptation was formed in 1996, same year as Nightwish started, by Sharon and guitarist Robert Westerholt. He has been studio only since 2011. Sharon and Robert have 3 children together. They are usually grouped in with Nightwish in the symphonic metal category , but they will use other genre's as well (pop/rock, etc.). My favorite is Ice Queen. that and Mother Earth are older. Paradise (What About Us) feat. Tarja Turunen and Shot in the Dark are mid career, and Shed My Skin feat Annisokay is newer. Based on your comments, you probably want to check out a band called Jinjer. they are Ukranian. If you do, I highly recommend starting with the live session for their song 'Pisces'
Sharon is amazing. It wasn't Sharon that got Floor into Metal is was Anneke van giersbergen from The Gathering. The song was called Strange Machines. Sharon has a awesome higher register but her low also rocks.. You haven't seen anything yet from Within Temptation. FYI Robert now stays home with their kids.
They're together since the 90s, changed their sounds a lot throughout the years. This is a bit more radio-friendly than most of their stuff, but nice for a first recommendation. Her voice is outstanding, great rock voice but her high notes are her signature move. For older stuff i recommend a live performance from 2002: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wXQEjaVLxkk.html "The Purge" is a great song released in 2020 - music video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yoBIQkL4r0s.html Also anything from their Black Symphony concert with a full orchestra is worth watching.
Welcome to Within Temptation!!! Along with Nightwish, they’re one of the core bands that pioneered and basically became the face for symphonic metal. They even started the same year! 1996! Faster is kind of different and more commercial than a lot of their stuff because it was part of a concept album that went along with some short films and a comic book. Very 80s influenced sound. There’s still a lot of amazing tracks on it though like this one, Iron, Sinead, and Empty Eyes. One of their most recent songs, The Purge, is similar but a lot more heavy “wall of sound” type stuff, so you might like that a lot. Their older albums though, especially Silent Force and The Heart of Everything, are where you really see the classic symphonic metal sound. I love how versatile they are. Sharon is just an incredible singer. Gorgeously clear high notes and a seamless transition into those powerful lower belts. And unlike many of the other big name female metal singers like Tarja, Floor, and Anneke, she was never classically trained! Like all of them though, her voice is every bit as good live as you hear on the tracks.
Nordic metal ..can;t beat it, "Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded in April 1996" coincidently same year as Nightwish, sad most of the mainstream music world have never heard of these bands that have been going and touring for over 20 years Nightwish and Within Temptation are just the tip of the iceberg , Just like Nightwish Within Temptation have done 100's of tracks with full orchestra backing even live events with full orchestra on stage , check out ANYTHING from the Black Symphony with The Metropole Orchestra and as with Nightwish their best is always live
When I am listening to Sharon sing I feel like I am cheating on Floor. Within Temptation is an amazing band. Sharon is my # 2 female vocalist. Floor of course #1. Another great song is “And We Run” feat Xzibit.
Same feeling! When I listen to NW, I feel like I'm cheating on WT. WT and Sharon comes first for me. I guess due to their similar music styles and overlap of fandoms, there've been a lot of competitions which make us feel that way. But both bands are amazing and different in many ways when you come to think of it and I think thats really cool. Can't imagine a world without either of them.
Guilty aswell 🙋🏻♀️ Ive been cheating several times..its so hard I love them both.. dilemma dillema.. 🤷🏻♀️😬 hopefully they wont find out ..I feel so ashamed 🤥🤥🤥
Within Temptation has been around since 1997, They started out with Doom/Goth metal, then changed to symphonic metal, then stadium rock and the last years they're modernising into a mix of all of them. Very epic and big sounding like Shed my Skin - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mP0TVptLDQE.html . At the end of this year they are touring with Iron Maiden in the US.
I love new music! I liked this. I feel like metal is a bit of a gray area for me. This definitely has metal elements, and it also reminds me of Nightwish a lil lol. This is pretty outstanding though, nice choice!
The drummer has a mask because they were between drummers at that time and had someone step in before they hired their current drummer. I’m surprised you were recommended to is sign. It’s okay but they’ve got so many better songs. I suggest checking out “the promise” from black symphony concert live. And if you want something with growls, perhaps check out Jane Doe or Candles live as well from their early days
Hey SalvoG! Glad you enjoyed my request! This album was sort of a turning point for the group. Before this, they were heavily symphonic metal. This album was more on the rock side with metal (and symphonic) elements and some electronic music. Something about this song gives me Heart vibes. As for screaming, have you heard Lzzy Hale/Halestorm?
She's one of very few with a 5 octave vocal range or so I've been told. A gaming buddy from Canada turned me onto this band and their CD's have been in constant rotation in my car for months now. A new (for me) favorite.
This is another famous symphonic metal band, Sal. Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation…..a genre very popular in Europe, but has not yet become huge in the US…..
This is one of their more commercial songs. They're a symphonic metal band, so in many of their songs the keyboard, while not being front and centre, is there often to add a background symphony sound, such as simulated violins. AFAIK the keyboard player is their main songwriter. They're also one of the most creative bands in the business. You noticed the drummer was masked. That wasn't a "Slipknot-alike". When they recorded this, they didn't have a drummer after the previous one left to form his own band. So, this is what they came up with for the videos. The guitarist on the right is Sharon's partner. He's taken a hiatus since 2011, I think, to look after their kids, although he joins them for studio work. If you want LOUD, listen to WT's "What About Us?" That was duet she did with Tarja Turunen.
Ohhhh ps....within temptation," dangerous"... featuring former lead vocalist of Killswitch engage, Howard Jones....the official vid. The dare devil pilots you fly along down to the beach for some beers....bring you a long for the epic flight. No way my guy....enjoy the music, "it's what you like, it's what you'll die for to live this life"...perfect lyrics.. enjoy salvog.
So what do you consider metal? There are lots of different genres of metal out there so hard to know what you are looking for. Love Within Temptation. Ice Queen is my favorite and Sharon's duet with Anneke van Giersbergen, Somewhere, from the Black Symphony is just gorgeous. Incredible harmonies and many think it is the best duet ever. If your looking for more wall of sound symphonic metal then I suggest another Dutch band, Epica. They are the darker, heavier cousin of Nightwish with a lovely female front woman and a male singer who does death metal growls but not in all songs. Consign to Oblivion live from the Zenith in Paris would be a good introduction for you although my favorites are Essence of Silence live from Brussels, Design Your Universe live from the Retrospect concert and their masterpiece, Kingdom of Heaven Part 3 from the Omega Live show. Lots of good keyboards as well. Last I think you might enjoy another Finnish Band, Wintersun. Amazing instrumentals, pretty heavy, and a fair amount of growls and screams that you are looking for. Time is my favorite but lots of folks start with Sons of Winter and Stars. For both the live play through videos from Sonic Pump Studios is the way to go.
Some suggestions from Europe. 1. Volbeat - A Warrior's Call - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rSmtHBMjXLU.html - Fron Denmark - Pretty heavy 2. Jorn Lande - Over The Horizon Radar - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rmb-9zMeujE.html - My favorite heavy metal voice today. He does some GREAT covers that are better than the origionals as well. 3. Gotthard - Need to believe - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3AIy_lQqAtM.html or Top of the world: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SDCZ2Ek5LQg.html - Swiss rock band. One of my favorite male vocalists. 4. W.E.T - Big Boys Don't Cry - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XSoFybZG0_I.html - Straight up rock. Jeff Scott Soto is part of this supergroup. 5. Perfect Plan - Time for a Miracle - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O4Pnu4-MZ38.html - newer group with some fantastic rock talent. AOR style rock. This should give you a lot of material. Have fun! Love your videos!
screaming? if you mean grunting then I suggest you to listen to Epica Consign to Oblivion live Zenith in France or Eppica The Essence of Silence live in Brussel Belgium
For many, many years, Nightwish and Within Temptation were my only sources for this kind of music--it was hard to find, and no one near me was performing or listening to anything like it. The two were inextricably linked for me, although they are of course very different. The closest thing I'd had until then was a (around here, at the time) little-known band called The Gathering, headed by a singer that I'd later come to learn was highly influential for many of the female singers I now love: Anneke van Giersbergen. If you want to get a taste of The Gathering (and I would wholeheartedly encourage you to do so!), try these two songs: Travel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y46Lft_BZxo.html On Most Surfaces: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gX9nHYj95gw.html Both are from Live at Doornroosje, a celebration of the band's 25th anniversary where current and former members reunited to perform together. Hands-down my favorite version of either, though the studio versions are also excellent.
This is arguably my favorite of theirs, but you've got to hear the song "Sinead" from this same album. Even more epic in some ways than this song. Real banger and so melodic.
If you want some groovy and growling female, you can try Spiritbox. The Agonist is also symphonic in places while also growing and reaching high notes.
Well……if you want to take a metal journey, you could start at its first iteration…Black Sabbath, considered the father of metal. Then into the first of the true great metal bands, Metallica. Also Iron Maiden. Then the really HEAVY metal shit…Pantera. I’m sure others can suggest many more.
