Welcome to our little island ... so glad you appear to be enjoying yourself already. Pleased you did the Manly Ferry - it's such a great and relaxing ride (although sometimes can be a little choppy) - by all means, check out Bondi Beach, after all it does have some interesting history (my preference is still Manly - more space, more relaxed atmosphere, although it can get rather busy, but not as insane as Bondi). Also if you have the chance, take the walk from Bondi to Coogee - it's an amazing coastal walk. Again, welcome to Oz! 👍🦘🇦🇺 Edit: noticed Bondi at the end - hope you got to do the walk, even if your legs are still a bit sore.
Thank you so much! Unfortunately we didnt get to do the bondi to coogee walk but it was on my list so if we end up popping back to Sydney then I will definitely do it :D
We's agree with you about Manly vs Bondi. Another advantage Manly has is the ferry trip to reach it. You get views into lots of the Harbour bays and have the trip across the Heads.
Remember Sydney is really just one of a number of 'gateways' into Australia. This the worlds 'Iargest island continent' is amazingly diverse and a visit to Sydney is like" I've been to London so I've seen the United Kingdom," only multiply by 10.
If you get the chance, see if you can get out to Dubbo, to see the western plains zoo. Much better than Sydney's zoo. Here is a thought, after you get to Cairns, fly to the centre and work your way up to Darwin. In winter all the grey nomads head up through the centre to Darwin so there is always work along the Highway.
Welcome to Australia. You’ll love Australia everywhere you’ll go. But don’t forget Melbourne. If you go to South Australia, plse, out Monarto safari park
The walk from Manly Beach to Shelley Beach is lovely. Love to see a fellow climber enjoying some bouldering. How long are you in Oz? Try and get to the Blue mountains for a day trip. For active people like you two there’s a lot to enjoy.
11:17 Rolling sets in those waves. 1770 is as far South as that starts up here. Early May the wind is right to get surf not chop. I love the sea. When something brushes your leg it makes you swim fast.
8:14 Emu is a scary chicken. They don't do much but in your mind you imagine they could. Building a house in Timberlands. the carpenter was taking a piss. oy mate look out for the emu!!! the bird was inquisitive. it's head was eye to eye with this bloke. He fell over and pissed his pants. Not everyday you get eye to eye with an emu.
Did you use public transport and taxis all the time? Is car hire/rental worth it in Sydney? We like to walk, so is there a lot can by seen just by walking around?
We used public transport the whole time as it was generally quicker than driving as the roads seemed pretty busy and it was realy regular and convenient. We did however go to the blue mountains and a few other national parks a bit further away and so hired a car for that and it was definitely worth it as that would have taken a long time to get to just using public transport. Definitely walk around too- there’s so much to see- so many beautiful places
