Liverpool is my favourite place in the UK and quite possibly my favourite place ever! If you go back, go for 2 or 3 days at least. Great places to visit are: ⭐️ Metropolitan Catholic Cathedral; ⭐️ World Museum; ⭐️ Walker Art Gallery; ⭐️ Museum of Liverpool; ⭐️ Tate Gallery; ⭐️ Hop On/Off Bus Tour; ⭐️ St. John's Beacon Viewing Gallery; ⭐️ Royal Liver Building 360° Tour; ⭐️ Top of the Anglican Cathedral (2 elevators and a lot of steps but worth it if you can); ⭐️ Liverpool 1 Shopping; ⭐️ Albert Dock in the evening.

Look forward to welcoming you back to Liverpool; you really need a good few days or longer to appreciate all we have to offer, not only in the city itself, but the surrounding areas... The largest collection of Grade 2* listed buildings outside of London, the RC cathedral down the road (Hope Street) from the Anglican, the museums... And curiosities such as an extremely rare Edward VIII post box and the crypt of an infamous gambler that's above ground to cheat the devil... And outside the city you have the beautiful countryside of the Wirral and the beaches of both Wirral and Sefton, with Anthony Gormley's "Another Place" at Crosby... Actually, you need a lifetime to appreciate it - I'm still discovering things in my city and wider area, and I ain't dead yet ;)!

Glad you loved Liverpool, it’s an amazing city. My in-laws are originally from Woolton, where John and Paul met. My sister in law walked from their house to George Harrison’s parents house in the early 60’s, and were given autographs, but she gave them to her friend for safekeeping as my father in law hated The Beatles. She never saw them again. My husband’s cousin was reputed to be good friends with John and Cynthia in the art college days. We love the city, we have spent 3 special occasions there in the last few years. We celebrated my 40th, our daughter’s 18th and this year our wedding anniversary. Our daughter requested that she wanted her first alcoholic drink in the Cavern on her 18th, we granted it. The Cavern there now is not the true original, but a very close replica. The original one was demolished before Matthew Street became what it is now. We saw Suzanne Vega at the Philharmonic Hall on our last visit for our wedding anniversary in February. Some things to look for next time: you can visit both Mendips (John Lennon’s Aunt’s house on Menlove Avenue) and Paul McCartneys homes if you book in advance with the National Trust. Our daughter enjoyed the Slavery museum in the Albert Dock, and the Dock is well worth a walk around with its quirky gift shops. The ferry across the Mersey is excellent too. The museum of Liverpool is very good, and has a lovely cafe. The Liver building looks amazing at night, lit up beautifully. We stayed at the Travelodge nearby and walked to take photos. All the docks and waterside areas are illuminated at night. Did you know that the 4 bells in the modern Catholic cathedral are nicknamed John, Paul, George and Ringo? Their proper names are the apostles.

I love Liverpool. I’m originally from The Wirral, just across the Mersey river, and I went back to Liverpool for uni. There are so many fun things to see if you get the chance to go back. The Jacaranda is my favourite pub in Liverpool, and it has some great Beatles history away from the tourist trail - the basement was an early rehearsal space but they were put to work decorating the place - you can still see some great bands down there. It’s a really chilled vibe. Since I lived there, they’ve put booths in the room upstairs where you get your own turntable to play records on, and loads of music to choose from. I’d also recommend Port Sunlight. It’s an easy train journey. Then Chester. Walking the city walls in Chester is a great experience. The city is beautiful.

Just a wee tip .. My wife and I have just returned from a short break in Liverpool. During our time, we bought all zone Saveaway tickets. These are all-day tickets and work on buses, Merseyrail trains and even on the ferry. These cost £6, if purchased directly from the ticket office at Lime Street Station. Buying elsewhere means you need to pay an extra £1 for a plastic MetroCard, although this would be for the first purchase only. We took the ferry to Seacombe, then a bus to Hamilton Square from where we caught a train back over to Liverpool Central. That trip only took about an hour, so we had the rest of the day to explore elsewhere, using the same Saveaway ticket

They’ve painted over the Abbey Road wall a gazillion gajillion times since the 60s, because soooooo many people write on it. They’ve also replaced the Abbey Road street sign a ridiculous number of times because it gets nicked as a souvenir on a fairly regular basis 😂 😂

When I moved to Liverpool in the early 70's, they were still building the Anglican Cathedral. I think they started in the early 1900's. The original Cavern was knocked down after a long campaign to save it, so everything you see is a replica. There are 2 cathedrals in Liverpool. The Catholic cathedral is very modern and fondly known as 'Paddy's Wigwam'.

I think the original Caven had a fire. There is a big gap where it used to be. St Luke Church is good. It's a church that was bombed in ww2 and its still standing. We call it the bombed out church. They sometimes have parties and eventing in there.

@@kandelfamilylife No it was sold to British Rail in 73 to be a ventilation shaft for the merseyrail loop but couldn't be made to work so it was filled with concrete. They did try to unearth it later but the damage was unsalvagable so they knocked it down and built a slightly bigger recreation slightly to the side of the original.

You have to try the other cathedral as well literally at the other end of the road of the one shown. The Museum of Liverpool on the waterfront is excellent for local history and culture, and to get the best views of the UNESCO listed skyline, take a trip on a "Ferry 'Cross the Mersey" to see it in it's full glory. For a quirky place to visit, go to the Edge Hill Tunnels to see the result of one man's obsession with employing hundreds of unemployed soldiers from the Napoleonic wars to simply dig tunnels and caverns under the city . Also, if you like your football, the Anfield tour is well worth it.

I think the concept of the Whispering Arch was taken from the design of the very famous Whispering Gallery in St Paul’s Cathedral in London, which was designed by the incredible architect, Sir Christopher Wren. If you haven’t been inside St Paul’s, it’s unbelievable. In my opinion, it’s the cathedral to end all cathedrals - it’s even more beautiful than some of the Catholic ones you find in the Mediterranean countries, and that’s saying something. You can climb all the way up to the top of the dome below the spire, although there are around 500 steps. The trek up is insane. It’s a heck of a climb just to get to the first level on the roof, and then you briefly come outside and you get a fantastic view across London and the City. But THEN, you go inside the dome itself, and begin the second leg of the climb, and it’s like a series of cast iron spiral staircases with platforms in between, like you’d get on a fire escape, and you just keep going up and up and up. Eventually, you get right to the top and come outside to a small viewing area that goes all the way round (it feels very safe though, with high stone walls) and the view across London from there is breathtaking.

I don.t know if you've heard of Cilla Black. She was the cloakroom attendant at The Cavern until The Beatles pulled her up on stage and the rest, as they say, is history. Not only was she a great singer but also one of the UK's most loved TV presenters.

If you're interested in history you should look up the Friends of Williamson's Tunnels. The Williamson tunnels were dug under Liverpool and are currently in the process of being investigated with new sections being found. No-one really knows the reason that they were made but the history is really interesting.

Liverpool Cathedral is the largest protestant Cathedral in the world and the fifth largest cathedral in the world. The noisy organ is the largest church organ in the world. Incidentally, when I was a student at Liverpool University I lived 50 yards from Penny Lane.

Born in Liverpool, never eaten Scouse, never been to the Anglican cathedral. Been to Paddy’s Wigwam - the RC cathedral. Liverpool became a tourist attraction when I left! Never seen the sites you’ve seen on your tour, although the bus passed by Penny Lane to and fro on the way to Saturday lessons. My sister had a new leather coat stolen at the Cavern Club once and so I was never allowed to go! They do a foody market in Liverpool - the Baltic Market. Never been to that either but I’m told it’s good.

new subby here, and a Scouser in Ireland. So glad you love my home town. You have to see the Glass houses in the parks... or the beach in Southport and Blackpool that never ends.. But Blackpool is a little tacky, totally embraces the English seaside vibe.
