It was his best friend Joe. He jumped from a bridge. The RNLI spent days searching for him, first as a rescue and then as a recovery. He was never found sadly. Ren just presented the RNLI with a check for $21K (pounds sterling though) that he fundraised as a thank you for their steadfast and tireless efforts to find his friend. And he did it while in hospital fighting for his own life and the funds to keep doing so. He said somewhere that he got to the bridge 5 minutes too late. So it's never ever left him. Ray, you are sunshine. Keep shining. WE need you desperately. And 2 hours ago, I didn't even know you. That's how brightly you shine. xoxo

It’s extremely hard to listen to this song. It hits me in the gut. When I was a teenager I tried to end it all and often thought people would be better off without me. Thankfully I didn’t and I now have 3 kids that need me and look up to me. I’m still hurting and struggling with negative thoughts but I push through them for my kids. I am thankful I went through hell and survived because I learned how precious life is.

Your sermon was as amazing as REN’s music.

When I first started listening to him I would only listen to Hi Ren because I was scared to listen to anything else because of how intensely it affected me. I felt either his other music wouldn’t live up or it would and it would destroy me. It took me 2 weeks before I could listen to it without crying and at that point I started slowly adding other songs each one as good as the one before it. I have just given in to the fact that Ren leaves me in a sobbing soggy pile of mush…it’s a beautiful torture…

Been going through it the last couple months, and it’s the first time the dark thoughts started talking loudly. Tellin me the same bullshit “they’re better off without you. You just screw everything up”. I’ve been getting help since. This song and your words are major man! You’re on point.

The best feeling I got when I got clean is when I realized my family trusted me again. I no longer had that feeling that I was being watched whenever I was at their houses and I never want to put my family or me in that position of uncomfortableness.

I have also been in this night, and I stayed for my parents. The semicolon is a sign of solidarity and support for those with such thoughts, depression, and addiction. The idea to tattoo the mark on your body as a sign for others to recognize. Shit. It takes some special and ferocious bravery to say what you just did and *admit* how selfish it FEELS in hindsight. I travelled a similar road to you but it was a series of setbacks in my life which cut away at my safety net to only threads. My despair pushed me to the very brink. I walked out of my apartment one night and to a bridge between two islands in the depth of a snowy swedish winter.... I stood on the edge and just thought. Perhaps for hours? Alone in my thoughts I still have no clue how long I was there but I watched the entire world wind down to a standstill. Every molecule of my body became cold. BUT something broke through the darkness and it felt like a handwritten note pushed into my hand. It was a scrawled list of the names of everyone I'd forgotten in that moment or subconsciously blocked who would have been destroyed to their core by my selfish actions. After a *long* period of healing and recovery, i made contact with everyone on that list to remind them I existed and together they lifted me so far away from my loneliness and darkness, I don't even recognize that person anymore. Thank you for your very real and human response to one of our most special artists.

The last portion talking about the fight,is referring to his friend that decided to take his own life in the middle of the night jumped of off a bridge, the body was never found from my understanding. The song,Freckled angels, is dedicated to his friend, Ren has seriously been through some tuff s@#$

My sister died at 26, suspicious circumstances, on boxing day in 1996, cause of death, left open. OMG, yes this is how I felt❤

For me whenever I have some negative thoughts I try to take a walk and leave the place I was staying cuz I know if I kept staying my thoughts would cut me so deep . That's why I don't make choices when I'm angry or depressed.

Depression and anxiety have ruled my life since I was 5…. I am now 53 and it’s a never ending struggle. This is a song I listen to when I wake up in the middle of the night. Hey man, REALLY appreciate how open you were with us in this video with your experiences and emotions. You've got me tearing up in the office with you. It sounds like you've already come to a place of peace but I just want to say that I've really been enjoying your reactions to Ren's music and I'm so glad you're still here to share it with us. "My kingdom turned to dust, I watched all my riches dust" we surround ourselves with a lot of things that makes us happy, but when that feeling comes around, all of these things that were meant to build ourselves up don't do a dam thing. Nothing seems to fill that hole we have inside "Have I lost the Midas Touch? ". Even the things we do to bring value to others have lost all meaning when we feel that down and doubt ourselves

Props to you for talking so openly about this. More people need to get it out there. The stigma surrounding struggling with mental health especially as men is causing so many issues.
