In this video, I react to Halsey's new 2020 album Manic, breaking down the album's lyrical themes and motifs. Please subscribe for more music-related content!
this is actually super insightful! on forever is a long time she talked about how it started out as a happy relationship but as the song progressed she let her own insecurities & anxiety get the best of her & tried to express that sonically & lyrically. that’s what the “tell your man he’s got bad news coming” like comes from. also for dominic’s interlude she said it was like a continuation of that & a brotherly voice encouraging her to break up with that same guy. your interpretation on pretty much all of her lyrics though is pretty on the nail with what she was sharing so for barely known her you kinda were a beast lmaoo

Big ups for you for looking up the translations, you are the first non also BTS fan reactor I have seen doing that.👏👏👏. Where were some who even purposefully skipped it🙄
This was honestly one is the best reactions I’ve seen and how fast u caught unto everything. I’ve been following Halsey since debut (Room 93), I would recommend u react to her HFK album. 😁😁
I love the way you analyze and really dig into the music. It reminds me why I love music and find it to be such a personal aspect of myself. It’s art and you treat it as so. As someone with Bipolar, I fell in love with this album the second I heard it. Each track really feels like a different aspect of mania or depression, which are the two emotions you experience as bipolar. I felt extremely heard and less alone. Songs like Clementine, I hate Everybody, 3am (especially this song), Killing Boys, and Still Learning are clear examples of the struggles and emotions Bipolar individuals experience.
Loved your analysis' and reaction to the album. Definitely even helped me, a seasoned Halsey fan, realize a little deeper meaning behind some of these lyrics.
About "More".. she have had 3 miscarriages due to endometriosis.. she even shared about it on an interview that she was touring and had a miscarriage on stage while performing when she didn't knew she was pregnant! Also in Ashley she referred the line "I'll leave you the dust my love" to her fans.. In "Dominic's interlude" the song is produced beautifully.. but just where her voice fades while saying "just right.. just right" she's kinda talking to herself and contemplating about her past.. and as the music becomes even more theatrical and sort of builds in the background with the piano and the rain it signifies a tendency of overthinking stuff and being skeptical about a person's self image..I loved how you've put efforts and listened carefully and comprehensively.. you've got new subscriber!!! 🤗
"Am I getting yeehaw from this?" I love it so much. I feel like watching your reaction reminds me of when I was making analysis essays back when I was an undergrad student. Definitely looking forward for more in-depth analysis from you!
Her first two albums were great too, you should def give them a listen. Badlands is sort of a seminal work that set me on a different course in life than I had been following, and I’m glad it did.
If you hadn't pointed out the Cry Me A River interpolation, I swear I would have never figured out why it felt so familiar. WOW! I loved your reaction and analysis btw!
I see exactly what you’re saying about 929 undoing what she fought so hard for in still learning, but I think she did it purposefully because being bipolar means you’re going to cycle. So you’re finally getting it together and then cycle back to the same destructive behavior partly Because you feel invincible and partly because you don’t feel like you deserve. It’s part of being manic but you still have to find out how to grow and love yourself even when you know you’re gonna cycle back down that depressive road. It’s really profound that she chose to do it that way. It’s a very tangible way to express to others that the mania is coming down. They’re both equally and simultaneously her truth
I just found you and this was an incredible reaction and breakdown! Love it. You got so much that most people didn’t get. Respect for listening to the lyrics and not just blurring past them ❤️
Loved this reaction! And that was John Mayer on the ending of 3 am btw :) and the “mirror” is about her previous albums where she made the Halsey persona but now on manic she is more open as Ashley not the others way around. It’s Halsey’s third album but Ashley’s first. When someone questioned why she flexing her hit song Without Me she said “Anti-popstar is more about a mentality I think. It’s more about denying the notion that female pop artists should succumb to the social expectations of the genre.”
