This song is based on a movie Johnny's Got His Gun. On the official music video to this song (which was them first music video ever, btw.), they've used some scenes from this movie!!!
Good choice reacting to the lyric video first time up. The official music video is a mashup between the boys playing and scenes from the movie the song is based on so if you don’t know the song it is usually very hard for reactors to get the full experience of either the song or the video. Definitely recommend doing a seperate reaction to the music video though, it is such a unique thing that it won’t be like doing the song reaction over again.
I was just about to comment the same thing. The video is fantastic but it's best if you're already familiar with the song and you already know what it's about. I think it's a bit of an overload for a first-time reactor to try to follow clips from the movie and the song. Plus, this is how all of us were introduced to the song when it came out. The song was written to be listened to without video.
The journey into metal is an interesting endeavor my friend, signing up takes an open mind & tattered soul. Lyrics are important & there are a lot of great bands for u to discover. Many different genres in metal, hardcore, black, death, symphonic...too many to list really. The big 4 from the 90's are really were it's at. Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth & Anthrax...personally, I'd add a 5th with Pantera, they brought "groove" metal into it. James Hetfield made tge song because he felt like the soldier,his father left when he was 13,and his mother later died Iif cancer and he says that he felt cut off from the world
This song is about a soldier who was hit with an artillery shell. But he didn't die. He lost his sight. His hearing. His arms and legs. All of his senses have been stripped from him but the doctors are keeping him alive. Which is basically driving him insane.
I've listened to this song for years and it never bothered me. I started watching reaction videos and the music video was included. Actually seeing the tragedy in the video cut in instead of hearing about it has a real impact.
Really enjoying your channel. I think next you should react to the official video. The video is rather complicated so I'd recommend watching in a quiet room with no distractions. It has dialogue along with music and movies clips so, maybe a couple watches will be neccessary. Keep up the great work, man. Just subscribed and looking forward to your new journey.
You actually get a MUCH better understanding of the lyrics from the 'Studio' version of the video, since it has footage from a war movie and the song is actually about a wounded soldier from WW1
