You will notice, longtime SHINee fans never talk about Jonghyun as if he is gone. We very rarely use past tense words to describe him. We always talk about SHINee like nothing has changed. Even when SHINee does interviews or people in the industry talk about the group they still say "the five of you," etc. And for the most part, people treat them like nothing has changed because Jonghyun is still very much a part of everything SHINee does. It's not because we want to sweep what happened under the rug and not deal with it, but it's a sign of respect for the group and Jonghyun. He was far more than his illness and he contributed so much to the world and the industry that he should be remembered and respected for. So just appreciate the fact that you get to watch performances like "Ring Ding Dong" and that we have hundreds of clips of him to enjoy. Please don't dwell on the fact that he is not here anymore. Because he is here, you can see and feel him in everything that makes SHINee who they are and you can feel his presence in everything SHINee produces. I feel like those who think that SHINee has changed from when they were young to now, really don't have a deep understanding of who SHINee are as a group. As SM's experimental boy group, everything SHINee does should be different than anything you have ever seen or heard from them before. Nothing they ever do will be the same, that is just who they are. Their sound and style is constantly evolving. The fact that it is completely different every time is precisely what makes them SHINee in the first place. And although Jonghyun may no longer physically be present, he can be felt and heard in everything SHINee is involved in. It was Jonghyun's color that helped to make SHINee who they are, and because of that, most fans will agree, we can still see and hear his influence in all things SHINee, even in their new works. The way to honor Jonghyun's memory is to watch him in everything he did throughout his career and to react to his music and listen to his songs. So, go ahead and react to as much SHINee content, and even Jonghyun's solo work, as you can. It's OK if it makes us a little emotional sometimes, but the way to get to know him and SHINee better is to really spend some time getting to know them as the amazing performers that they are. All Jonghyun ever wanted was to make people happy through his work and to influence the world with his songs and lyrics. So, honor him by discovering what an amazing person he was and seeing exactly what he wanted people to remember him for. Yes, it's sad, but you don't necessarily have to make it that way if you just appreciate his work for what it is and live in the moment. His final words to the world were "Tell me I did well." And that is what we fans try to do. If you don't allow his tragedy to color your perspective, you will see that the members are still the fun, goofy, crazy, amazing, brilliant artists that they always have been, and their music and artistry still has that SHINee quality they are known for. If anything, all it has done is made them even more determined to show the world that this one event doesn't define them as a group and that they will continue to work to become even more brilliant in order to keep Jonghyun's legacy alive. By continuing to watch and listen to Jonghyun's and SHINee's music and appreciating the hundreds of clips we are lucky enough to have with SHINee as a group of 5, we are showing Jonghyun that, yes indeed, you did well and your life will forever be meaningful to thousands of people. You will never be forgotten Jonghyun, you did well.

SHINee was the 1st kpop group that got me into this world & has been there for me thru so much! very happy you decided to give them a listen. i highly recommend getting into both jonghyun & taemin’s solo bodies of work for mental health analysis stuff if you’re interested in that. for jjong: lonely, a gloomy clock, before our spring & end of a day are some more serious ones. but please make sure to check out some of his more lighthearted works as well! a few personal favorites are love is so nice (which is just the sweetest song ever & gives me chills every single time), she is (a fan favorite), moon & orbit. for taem: i honestly recommend the entire never gonna dance again album for more serious analysis, including criminal which others have mentioned, nemo, black rose & famous. for stuff more on the sexy side i recommend some of his very iconic songs such as move, press your number, sexuality & holy water. also i’ve seen others mention his newest song advice, which is all about finding your own voice & not listening to all the outside opinions that try to drag you down. taemin has said this mv wasn’t meant to be sexy but…just watch it. really love the self empowered message of the song tho! the others don’t have quite as many solo songs/albums but key’s bad love is so fricking good! it’s about toxic relationships which seems to be quite the theme in a lot of SHINee songs as well. also i just have a feeling you will love the music video. it’s a really cool dark & sci-fi aesthetic with just immaculate style. key also dabbles in fashion design so the costuming is on point 🧑‍🍳👌💋 for minho, his newer songs are heartbreak & area which are both very sad but beautiful. minho also is an actor so you could totally react to one of his dramas if you wanted! last, but certainly not least is our lovely leader onew! onew has one of the most amazing voices i’ve ever heard & it really shines in songs like blue & your scent off his album voice. but i’malso loving seeing him having fun with his new stuff like dice & on my way which are much more upbeat dance songs, on my way is even a bit sexy which is a huge surprise for our soft tofu leader! i see that others have already given context for jonghyun’s passing & i don’t think i need to explain that obviously it’s a very sensitive subject for shawols but i honestly trust you to tread lightly & respectfully given what i’ve seem of your channel over the past few months. definitely hoping to see more SHINee content! i promise you will not regret it. they are called the princes of kpop for a reason & their influence on the industry is undeniable. absolute legends in every possible way 💎 ✨

Shinee is one of the most important 2nd generation Kpop groups and are known as the Princes of Kpop. Shinee Taemin is widely regarded as the best dancer in Kpop and is a very successful solo artist as well. The one whose clothes you like is one Kpop's leading fashionistas. He's also a successful solo artist. His Bad Love is iconic as are virtually all of Taemin's works. Shinee Onew has a song out right now that's just a lot of fun. He happens to be one of Kpop's greatest vocalists. Minho doesn't have to do anything he's so charming but he's super talented too. Shinee tragically lost their lead singer Jonghyun in 2017. He was a great artist in every way. Songwriter, lyricist and producer in addition to being one of Kpop's most powerful and engaging singers.

Interestingly, all five of SHINee have openly discuss about mental health and therapy (they also went to group therapy). Even tho Jonghyun who most often publicly discussed about mental health is now an angel up above but his words is still relatable and a source of comfort. SHINee also opebly support LGBTQ.

OH MY GOD Ring Ding Dong and Lucifer were the first kpop I ever heard, way back in high school. Goodness. They've had such a glow-up, especially Taemin! His hair in Lucifer was.... something. I remember thinking the random English words were so funny back then, and now I always yell-sing every English word in every kpop song. Definitely should check out Taemin's 'Advice' it's probably my favorite MV from all of last year (and I'm a pretty diehard stay, so that's saying something).

Ring Ding Dong was definitely a song of its time, with the autotune and repetition haha but I still love it. When it came out Korea actually banned students from listening to it and took it off the radio during entrance exam week because it was too catchy and distracting from their studies. 😂 SHINee is one of the older groups still consistently making amazing music. Their discography is so varied, they have a lot of love songs, but they have experimented with all kinds of sounds. Vocally all of the members are incredibly gifted and have their own solo work as well. I know other people mentioned Jonghyun's passing, so I won't talk about that. However these two songs don't really show off his voice, because he's not in Don't Call Me and Ring Ding Dong went so heavy autotune. I can't wait to see you react to more so you can hear just how talented he is. Jonghyun was also a huge advocate for mental health in Korea. He was a voice for a lot of people and his passing was a tremendous loss. Not only for his talent, but his kindness and genuine care for his fans. There was a series where idols would surprise a hardworking fan and basically take them on a date, and Jonghyun's episode was my favorite. I think you would enjoy it, if you wanted to watch it in your own time. I hope you react to more! You can't go wrong, all of them are good. I would say maybe wait to react to Our Page until you're more familiar with the group and their story, it will be more impactful. The official MV doesn't have English subs so I would recommend finding a video that does, or reading them beforehand so you can understand and really feel what they were feeling.

Because Taemin is also a member of SuperM, I think SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV and Fake Reality teaser is SM's way of drawing SHINee into the SM Universe and fully connecting SHINee to SuperM's/EXO's storyline. Hence, Minho's red hair and the red room with the chairs hanging from the ceiling. I think this might be connected in someway to the Red Force and EXO's/SuperM's storyline. As with everything that SM does, it's been designed to all connect. All of SM's groups' concepts and MV storylines connect together and it's all part of one giant Universe and story that started in 2012 with EXO's debut. To understand how all of SM's groups are connected, you first need to be aware that it all began with EXO's origin story. EXO's concept is that they are aliens from Planet Exo who have been sent to Earth on a mission to find and protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force, while also trying to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, which are believed to be caused by the Red Force. The Red Force is thought to be here on Earth inflicting their evil agenda -- corrupting humanity and causing all the bad things that are happening in the world, such as war, hate and destruction of the environment, etc. And because EXO is trying to undo and prevent the Red Force from accomplishing their goals, the Red Force is also trying to take down EXO by capturing them, corrupting them and standing in their way, etc. And SuperM is the Kpop industry's very first supergroup which debuted in October 2019 and their concept and storyline is centered around the fact that they are Avengers-like superheros, so SuperM is the group that pretty much connects everything together. As part of EXO's story, Baekhyun and Kai -- who are members of EXO -- have recruited members from SM's other male Kpop groups -- Taemin from SHINee, Taeyong and Mark from NCT and Ten and Lucas from WayV -- and formed SuperM, to help them battle the Red Force. So, because of this, all of SM's groups have storylines that connect. I see connections between EXO, SuperM, aespa and SHINee with the fact that we see SuperM riding on a subway train in their "100" MV and we see aespa in the subway in their debut "Black Mamba" MV, and now we see SHINee also in a train station in "Don't Call Me." And most recently, we saw Baekhyun from EXO/SuperM on an old train in his most recent solo "Bambi" MV. We even see Kai from EXO/SuperM on train tracks and people on a subway train platform in his "Film: Kai" solo debut teaser video during his "Amnesia" section of the video and as it transitions to "Mmmh." We also see Key from SHINee in a subway train in his solo debut "One of Those Nights" MV in 2018. And if we go back even further, you see EXO on train tracks in their "Love Me Right" MV and EXO-CBX (which Baekhyun is also a member of) on train tracks in their "Horololo" MV, etc. Which I think is all connected in someway. The train station/subway platform in "Don't Call Me" also is given a very futuristic EXO-like feel with the view of space and the planets in the sky when you see SHINee dancing on the train platform. I also think that the scene with Key in the red outfit standing on the phone booth submerged in water has something to do with the Red Force as well. In that scene we also see Key dressed in his black outfit with the feather headpiece standing in front of the image of himself, which looks as though this could be showing Key in alternate realities -- or a "fake reality." (And now that Key has released his solo "Hate That ... " MV, I think that scene with Taeyeon from Girls' Generation, standing on the rock in the middle of the ocean in "Hate That ..." is connected to that scene in "Don't Call Me" as well.) Then it looks as though the SHINee members go through some sort of wormhole as they are teleported somewhere and we see them all posing in their black outfits. This looks very similar to the scene in SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV when the SuperM members are coming together at the beginning of "Jopping." The members of SuperM are supposed to be coming together to help EXO fight the Red Force and to prevent or stop them from taking over the world, etc. As "The Avengers," SuperM is taking members from each of SM's groups and joining forces to take down the Red Force. And just like how the movies "Avengers Identity War" and "Avengers Endgame" eventually had each of the Marvel Avengers members recruiting their whole crew to help in the fight, I think SM is setting it up so that all of its groups' members will eventually be brought into the fight. So, if you follow EXO's storyline, in EXO's "Obsession" MV we learn that the good guys are the members in the all black outfits, and in "Jopping" we see SuperM's "Avengers uniform" is similar all black outfits. So in the scene in "Don't Call Me," when we see SHINee all together in those black outfits, it looks as though they might be preparing to join in the fight. And because of this, I think people need to pay attention to all of the storylines with all of SM's groups, because I think at least all of SM's third generation groups' MVs and storylines -- and probably even now their 4th gen. groups with the introduction of aespa in 2020 -- are being designed to connect stories and plots. Each group has their own individual storyline and concept, but when you put them all together, there are threads of connections between the groups. And that includes SuperM, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT/WayV, aespa, and maybe even Taemin's solo work, and possibly even SHINee. Even though SHINee are second gen, they actually fit within the age group of third generation groups, so they sort of bridge that gap between 2nd and 3rd gen. That is why I think that even though SHINee are part of the second generation, that SM is now working on bringing them into the storyline. And although most of SM's older groups' concepts and MVs may have never been originally designed to have any type of connection to anything to do with anything, that doesn't necessarily mean that over the years as EXO's story has evolved or SM's Universe concept was being created, that SM didn't find "happy coincidences" within those MVs that allowed them to use them as a way to connect things together. For example, some have pointed to the fact that NingNing's butterfly in aespa's concept from 2020 could be connected to the butterfly in EXO's debut "Mama" MV from 2012, as well as the butterfly in NCT-127's recent "Favorite (Vampire)" MV from 2021, and some have made compelling arguments that it could even be connected to SHINee's butterfly in their "Ring Ding Dong" MV from 2009. Or the blue roses we see in Taemin's "Press Your Number" MV from 2016 may be connected to EXO's flower/blue rose concept, etc. Now I'm not completely convinced that SM would reach back that far, but it makes you question and consider things. :D I mean we see what looks like the pink planet from Super Junior's recent "House Party" MV and a scene from Super Junior-K.R.Y.'s "When We Were Us" MV from 2020 in "aespa's ep.1 - SM Culture Universe" video. And SM has even brought Kangta, who is a member of the very first Kpop boy group H.O.T., which debuted in 1996, into the storyline with his solo MV remake of H.O.T's song "Free to Fly." So it's starting to look like SM may be hinting at bringing everyone into the storyline, including their older groups and artists.

SHINee has one of the best discographies in kpop, you would definitely enjoy exploring what they have to offer! The one that caught your eye the most, both with his fashion and high cheek bones was Key. He has been the main designer for SHINee's fashion for many years now! Each SHINee member also has their own solo work, and I would highly recommend listening to Jonghyun's albums. Jonghyun was very open about mental health and his struggles with depression. He also openly supported the LGBTQ+ community and was the first SM entertainment artist to produce his own self- written album. His albums story op.1 and op. 2 are all songs created from conversations he had with people while hosting a late night radio show. He was able to connect to people's emotions thru his music and provide them comfort when they needed it most. I would also highly recommend Jonghyun's song "end of the day" which offers consolation to anyone who has had a rough day. Thank you for reacting to SHINee!!

SHINee have always been known to be kings of live performances in the industry - they're ABSOLUTELY terrific performers. do a deep dive into them, you won't regret for sure. one of the top acts of our era. also, saw some comments talking about jonghyun's suicide but most shawols would prefer you going into getting to know SHINee without focusing on that premise in mind. all five of them are amazing artistes and they have amazing music and skills to boot, and although jonghyun's passing should not be put aside, it (and also the group's "suffering" as i saw some comments put it) is definitely not something that should be taking away from the experience of their art on its own. @ fellow shawols, let's try not to build SHINee up as tragedy porn - their talent/music/personalities are way beyond what happened to them.

I agree 100%. Longtime SHINee fans never talk about Jonghyun as if he is gone. I hate how some people want to turn his story into this sad narrative and boil everything that SHINee stands for down to that one incident and moment for the group. Jonghyun would want us to remember all the happy moments in his life, not this one moment of sadness. He had far more happy days than he had sad and we should lift him and SHINee up by remembering that fact. So we should appreciate the fact that we get to watch his performances and that we have hundreds of clips of him to enjoy. I wish people wouldn't dwelling on the fact that he is not here anymore. Because he is here, you can see and feel him in everything that makes SHINee who they are and you can feel his presence in everything SHINee produces. I also feel like that those who think that SHINee has changed from when they were young to now, really don't have a deep understanding of who SHINee are as a group. So, people shouldn't be afraid to react to as much SHINee content, and even Jonghyun's solo work, as they can. It's OK if it makes us a little emotional sometimes, but the way to get to know him and SHINee better is to really spend some time getting to know them as the amazing performers that they are. All Jonghyun ever wanted was to make people happy through his work and to influence the world with his songs and lyrics. So, we should honor him by discovering what an amazing person he was and seeing exactly what he wanted people to remember him for.

OMG I love you for reacting to them! haha. Already wanted to ask you if you know SHINee because they are very popular amongst the LGBTq kpop crowd since they are at least LGBTq allies and have some vibes that attract us LGBTq folks ;) especially Jonghyun was very open about his support. People already mentioned in the comments that there is a lot of history in that group. I find SHINee to be one of the few very genuine / honest groups out there since they kind of have more freedom nowadays than newer groups (or they just don't care that much anymore and just do what they like). Each member has a solo career as well besides their main group. Taemin and Key are my absolute favorites as solo artists. There is a lot to analyze in their songs, MVs and performances (like "Under My Skin", "Advice" from Taemin. and "Bad Love" from Key). Taemin was basically my entry drug for kpop and an eye opener that androgyny can also be a dance style, which he masters ("Move" is fully dedicated to that) ... he's one of the best dancers in South Korea and I don't say that just because he's my bias lol

"Ring Ding Dong" actually got banned in Korea during SAT test study time because it's so catchy & gets stuck in your head. You might like "Move" by Taemin, SHINee's maknae (youngest) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rcEyUNeZqmY.html. CW: suicide, suicidal ideation, mental illness Former punk rocker queer deeply interested in psych stuff here. I’ve always struggled with mental illness and was finally diagnosed as bipolar 2 at the age of 35, so I’m happy to stumble across your channel because it fits into so many aspects of my life. And I found you because SHINee was how I got into Kpop (specifically one of their members, Taemin, with his solo work.) SHINee has gotten me through some of the darkest times of my life, and I’ve felt an especially deep kinship with them. They lost their unbelievably amazingly talented member Jonghyun to suicide in 2017. Of course there are many reasons this can happen but one of the aspects I’ve read about is how he kept seeking mental health resources and no one took him seriously. I have thankfully had a network of support, both by medical professionals and those close to me, but I have found myself in a similar position to him. So many times, I’ve mourned the loss of his life and potential to have an unmatched career in his industry. And then, one time, it dawned on me that if I gave into my urges, there were others that would feel that way about me in a much more personal way. Sometimes it takes that outside perspective to teach you something that you need to take to heart. At any rate, SHINee is very special. After his death, the group had a chance to disband but they kept on, with the mantra “SHINee will always be 5.” During some choreography, they leave an extra spot for him and have sometimes kept him in the background tracks. They held a huge concert months after his passing and they gave a beautiful tribute that makes me weep every time. I think one of the most powerful songs from them was the first they released after JongHyun’s passing, “Good Evening.” The choreography is so evocative about loss and grieving together, as well as the following “Our Page” which always rips out my heart. All that being said though, in spite of that darkness in their later career, SHINee is such a beautiful, joyful literal ray of sunshine. Any MV you choose will be a delight and I highly recommend a deep dive Related would be reacting to the solo work of their member Taemin. His song Criminal has to do with Stockholm Syndrome and many of his songs deal with duality. It’s a Japanese release song (without lyrics on the MV) but listening to his song “Under My Skin” is beautiful. It deals a lot with suppressing one’s inner self and depression. And his most recent release Advice is about asserting oneself and finding your own place in the world. (Also he’s beautiful and he’s often referred to as “The Michael Jackson of Kpop” and “dance king” so you know you’re gonna get A SHOW.) I think it’s also notable that Taemin went in for his mandatory military service last year but was transferred to public service several months later. The press release from SM said that, in spite of being on a regular medication and therapy schedule for anxiety, panic disorder and depression, since before he began serving, there became a point where he became unfit for service. I think that the public announcement with very specific and transparent language was huge and showed a lot of growth in the industry. Taemin has been with SM since he was 14 when SHINee debuted and hugely respected, so I know they gave him the final say in what was published. And I think, especially with what has happened previously, they thought it was important to tell the whole truth as a platform for normalizing getting help for mental illness. So…that was a lot but I hope that gives you some insight into this group and how the discussion of mental health is even more relevant that usual with my sweet boys!

I can't believe it's RDD that's brought you in to the fold, but now you know! I rexommend you check out their debut, Replay, and Excuse Me Miss, too. All members are soloists!! Minho (red hair) doesn't yet have a full album as he's concentrating on his acting career. SHINee, particularly Jonghyun, have talked about mental health issues when no one else in kpop was. Both Key and leader Onew (Oh-nyoo) mentioned going on medicatiob after Jonghyun passed - incredibly brave of them to do so.

idk I’m new to this channel and I’m very wary of someone who hasn’t been a fan of shinee for a while and who is only listening to them now making a video and doing a “deep dive” into Jonghyun’s passing. shawols already had to deal with (and still deal with) countless people who aren’t even fans who use his death to make clickbait “dark side of kpop” videos, use him for views, or generally just always link him to tragedy and sadness when he gave us so much joy. it’s one thing to talk about shinee after his death in the context of their music, like the whole tsol series, but it’s another to try to analyze the event itself. that’s what I’m assuming you mean, op, but I just wanted to make sure because making a video regarding mental health in shinee would have to be done with a lot of care, imo.

Hey!!! I’m so glad you’re reacting to SHINee! I subscribed so I can follow your journey. SHINee started 25 May 2008 as an experimental, contemporary group and is comprised of the five most talented guys (the “Most Shining in the Universe”) in South Korea. They’re tasked (and are incredibly successful) with introducing new ideas ranging from concepts, music genres, fashion, and more to the industry. They set the trends and others follow in their footsteps. One such trend is known as the SHINee Standard-intense choreography whilst singing live, even since their debut. The only thing SHINee is known to not be good at is lip syncing, so they don’t. They’re known for their incredible live vocals and have been lovingly nicknamed “CDNee” because their live vocals are even better than their recordings. They trained by singing while taking long runs and kept that conditioning up-after all, their concerts last upwards of 3.5 hours with insanely intense choreography and vocals. They give their all during their performances, but you’d never know they were so tired their managers have had to carry them afterwards. Something that is important to know in regards to SHINee…I mentioned they are a five member group, and that is true to this day. However, Jonghyun tragically lost his battle with depression and anxiety in December of 2017. He was always incredibly open regarding his struggles with mental health…which isn’t taken seriously in South Korea (though it is improving, from what I understand…in large part due to the tragic losses of Jonghyun, Sulli, Goo Hara, and other idols). Doctors pretty much told him to suck it up and try to be happy. His death was devastating, not only to SHINee and Shawol (fandom name, short for SHINee World), but for all of KPOP and Korea. He is still missed terribly and appears regularly on charts for popularity and listening counts. (Continued 1/5)

Jonghyun was regarded the best vocalist of KPOP and was the first SM artist to release a self-written album. He wrote tons of songs-not just for himself or even SHINee, but for other well-known artists, as well. The members of SHINee obviously took this very, very hard, but decided to continue as a group that will always remain five. To this day, they are very vocal about the fact Jonghyun is still with them; they even leave his spot open in choreography sometimes and keep his microphone backstage during performances. The members are- Onew (Lee Jinki, 14 Dec 1989), Leader & one of the best vocalists in Korea. Shawol Fandom Name-MVPs. Jinki calls his fans Jjingus, which is a play on Jinki & chingu, Korean for “friend”. He’s also a songwriter, pianist, actor, investor, environmentalist, and philanthropist. He’s recently released his second mini album, “DICE”, and is working on a Japanese album, preparing for his first solo concert in Japan at Budokan, and is reprising his role as the male lead, Haram, in the musical “Midnight Sun”. You may also recognize him from “Descendents of the Sun” and various other dramas and TV programs (you should definitely check him out in the TV program, “Sea of Hope”). Jonghyun (Kim Jonghyun - 08 Apr 1990), Main Vocalist (best vocalist in K-POP history). Shawol Fandom Name-Blingers (he was Bling Bling Jonghyun). He is widely regarded as one of the best songwriters and has an impressive library of songs. Jjong was also an author (“Skeleton Flower: Things That Have Been Released and Set Free”, talks about his songwriting experiences and inspirations), radio host (MBC Blue Night, 2015-2017), bassist, and staunch defender/ally for mental health and LGBTQIA+ (even when it threatened his career). Key (Kim Kibum - 23 Sep 1991), Vocalist, Dancer, Rapper, Fashion Designer. Shawol Fandom Name-Lockets (he’s our Key). Kibum also calls us Lil Freaks (inspired by Lady Gaga’s lil monsters…he’s our Captain Freak). Kibum is also an actor, former fashion editor for ELLE Korea, MC, and has a skincare line with Youlief entitled “Face” and a collaboration with the cosmetics line Espoir. He’s a longtime cast member of the weekly show, “Amazing Saturday”, is currently a member of the “I Live Alone” television series, and is an accomplished stage actor. Furthermore, he is known as one of the best-dressed men in Korea and began designing SHINee‘s concert attire in 2015. The sweater you admired in “Don’t Call Me” was tweaked by him with the addition of the Pearl Aqua (SHINee’s official color) yarn artistically threaded through. Minho (Choi Minho - 09 Dec 1991), Main Rapper, Songwriter, Vocalist. Shawol Fandom Name-Flamers (he is Flaming Charisma). Best Choice (his web show with Naver) fans are referred to as BeChoDans. He has written rap lyrics for SHINee from debut and is also credited with collaborating on lyric-writing for multiple songs. Minho is an incredible actor, model, MC, and ambassador…he’s also a sports enthusiast and is very competitive (doesn’t hurt that he’s great at everything!). Minho is currently filming “The Fabulous” for Netflix, we’re awaiting his much-anticipated web series “Goosebumps”, and you may recognize him from “Hwarang, The Poet Warrior Youth”, “Yumi’s Cells”, “King of Golf, Season 2”, “The Most Beautiful Goodbye”, and countless other movies, dramas, TV series, reality shows, and as an MC of multiple events. Minho is an Honorary Ambassador of Youth, a UNICEF Unihero Campaign Ambassador, a K-League Ambassador, and was selected by the Korea Creative Content Agency, along with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as a virtual figure in the artificial intelligence booth, “Gwanghwa In”. He’s also currently a brand ambassador for the modern classic scotch whiskey brand, Ballantine’s. Minho is Shawol’s unofficial President and is the biggest fan of both SHINee and Shawol. Oh, he’s also been listed by Vogue in their “Sexiest Men Alive” list and won a spot on Cosmopolitan’s 35 Most Ab-Tastic Moments of 2015 for his special feature moment in “Dynamite” during the SHINee World Concert IV in Seoul. Finally, dibidibidis (IYKYK). (Continued 3/5)

Last, but certainly NEVER least: Taemin (Lee Taemin - 18 Jun 1993). Main Dancer, Vocalist. Shawol Fandom Name-Taemints (SHINee was a total secret and not marketed at all before their debut so Taemin would hand out mints and candies to tempt people to listen to their music and attend their debut-which not even their families were aware they were debuting until they were on stage in front of them). Taemin calls his fans Jjakgoongs, meaning best friends/buddies/partners. Taemin became a trainee under SM at age 11 as a self-taught dancer. He was one of three selected out of thousands the day he auditioned, but he caught their eye with his pop-locking skills, the fact he crossed the line when he wasn’t supposed to (on purpose), and his cheekiness. Though he didn’t feel ready, he debuted with SHINee as the maknae (youngest member) and main dancer at age 14. Though he didn’t get any vocal lines at first (many stated he was tone-deaf, but he was going through puberty), Taemin worked his butt off to improve-so much so he was getting frequent nosebleeds and passed out a few times. His hyungs (basically a term for older “brothers”/close males) helped him develop his voice, especially Jinki and Jonghyun, to the point he was the first SM idol to go solo whilst active in his group (2014, at 21 years old). He’s now known for being an exceptional vocalist and is a main vocalist for SHINee and SuperM. In 2014, Taemin had his solo debut (the first artist to ever do so while also active in a group) as the ACE of SM Entertainment (the best of the best in all areas)-Ace is the name of his first solo album and he was the first to receive that title. Now he has gained even more titles: he is the Idols’ Idol (most idols today will say the reason they became an idol and the person they most look up to/aspire to be is Taemin and/or SHINee), he is also a Prince of KPOP (which is a title granted to SHINee), Golden Maknae of SM that’s talented in all areas (besides the fact everyone loves him-not only is he talented, but he’s a wonderful human), Legendary Solo Man (역솔남-near as I can tell, it’s a title bestowed on those similar to “Diva”, given to artists such as Aretha, Dolly, Cher, etc), and the Michael Jackson of South Korea (he’s also known as one of the best dancers in South Korea, if not the best). His backup dance teams are the best in the business and are comprised of multiple famous choreographers (with that said, it’s still difficult (if not impossible) to see anyone BUT Taemin when he’s dancing). It’s no surprise that he’s very well-respected amongst choreographers: his friend Koharu Sugawara nicknamed him “Dancer Killer”. In 2019, SM collaborated with Capitol Records, USA, and assembled a group of seven of the best artists in KPOP to debut in the USA: SuperM. In fact, they even collaborated with Marvel after having been dubbed the Avengers of KPOP. Of course, Taemin was the first chosen and helped pick the other six members. Though not the eldest member, he is the senior member of the group due to the length of time he’s been in the industry. As such, he would have been leader, but he deferred that task to Baekhyun of the group EXO (who’s slightly older than Taemin). The main reason being, Taemin has been the maknae of SHINee his entire career and didn’t feel he would be best suited to lead the others. However, he is the center of the group and they ALL (including Baekhyun) defer to his experience and take his advice to heart. He is very caring towards his dongsaengs (juniors) and was nicknamed Taemresa (inspired by Mother Teresa). Baekhyun is an incredible leader, by the way…don’t want anyone to misunderstand my intentions behind what I’ve said. With the debut in SuperM, Taemin became the first idol to ever debut in three generations: 2nd with SHINee, 3rd as a solo artist, and 4th Gen with SuperM. The second (and only other) artist to achieve this did so only a few months ago. Taemin is currently on hiatus due to his mandatory military service, but I’m excited for his return (expected in November). Taemin is a well-known workaholic…he never takes breaks and hasn’t since he was a child. He’s in the studio every single day-not even taking off for Christmas. The change to military life has been very difficult for Taemin. Taemin and SHINee are all fluent in Japanese and release just as many Japanese albums as Korean. They are so popular in Japan, many do not consider them foreign artists (which is testament to the love and respect the Japanese people have for them). They even have an entirely separate crew of dancers and staff in Japan. Most artists have to request to hold concerts at Tokyo Dome (it’s an unspoken rule you need to be able to sell out the 55,000-seat arena to perform), but they actually reach out and request SHINee and Taemin because they know they’ll sell out in seconds (whether as a group or Taemin as a solo artist) and have to host multiple days to accommodate. The guys host the entire concert in Japanese and do not need translators. I mentioned SHINee being trendsetters-that includes Taemin, of course. Besides introducing new music styles and breaking boundaries with his concepts, he has also worked to break other boundaries, as well. Early in his career, SM took advantage of his prettiness and exaggerated it-he was often mistaken as a female (especially during the long-hair era) and would frequently clear his throat to “discreetly” let others know he’s male. He absolutely hated it, and understandably so-he was a teenager. Later, he embraced some of the socially-viewed “feminine” qualities and has worked hard to showcase that music has no gender. Taemin made waves with his song, “Move”, which he performs with his Girl Gang (all-female backup dancers). The choreography blends masculine and feminine energy like no one but Taemin can do (so many tried to imitate it, it was dubbed “Move Disease”, but none come close). He also lends that androgynous aspect to his fashion choices. Taemin has many facets to him-when the camera is on (filming MVs, music shows, etc), he is a true professional. With his SHINee hyungs, he’s a mischievous crackhead who lives to torment them. They raised him, so they spoil him, but don’t misunderstand-his love for them is unmatched and it goes both ways. With SuperM, he’s silly, but caring-he took them under his wings and is their mentor. He also has his Padding Squad (friend group consisting of Kai from EXO, Jimin from BTS, Ravi from VIXX, Timoteo of HotShot, WannaOne/HotShot’s Sungwoon, and a non-celebrity friend). They’re named the Padding Squad, or Padding Friends, because Taemin bought them all matching customized jackets with their own unique logo. For me, personally, I can appreciate someone’s musical abilities…but to become a true fan (or “stan”), they have to be really special and have qualities setting them apart besides simple talent. SHINee, both as a group and as five incredible soloists, have my utmost devotion. They’re incredibly talented in ways far beyond musical abilities and are kind, fun, and caring humans. (Continued 4/5)

One of the members, Key, is what I would call "sassy" and he has great fashion sense and helped style them for Don't Call Me. Taemin is a quite, shy, crazy talented idol that has debuted three times in each of the last Kpop generations (2nd gen with SHINee, 3rd gen as a solo--any of those songs are fab, and 4th gen as a member of SM's super group SuperM), ie he started super young. Also from a MH perspective he is serving in the military but changed to civil service for MH reasons and there seems to be a lot of support for him in this regard. Minho is the one that is not afraid to show off his very nice body and is my bias (although isn't everyone an OT5 bias) Onew is the leader and has such a unique sound, I could listen to him all day. Jonghyun is the forever member people have already mentioned. Such a skilled song writer. He wrote songs for so many other artist beyond SHINee. Very grateful those songs will live on.. One song suggestion, from the MH perspective, is Our Page. It was written by the members after Jonghyun's death. The MV is great, the song is beautiful, but even reading the lyrics will make me cry. Not just as a fan, but as anyone who has lost someone. The song is there for comfort.

You actually fall into very special group and imma tell you why, 1) staring with their leader (ONEW), he has very rare voice that make all Kpop singers wanna make duet with him, he sings like nothing! and most precious thing about him is that he can sing LIVE while dancing those difficult choreographies as he ate the CD! 2) then the main vocal of SHINee is JONGHYUN, a small definition is that he is POET&ARTIST, which means he writes and makes songs, not only singing.. and yeah! he considered as main vocal of South Korea not only for SHINee (if you search about him in Korean Wikipedia, it will appear like (Kim Jonghyun: Main vocal of South Korea) due to his strong voice (he has strongest voice in Kpop). 3) the third member is KEY, he is the Icon of fashion in Kpop! and when you said that you like the shirt in the music video, I want to tell you that all the costumes in this music video were designed by him.. He also designed a lot of their concerts costumes. Besides he is the icon of fashion in korea, he sings, dances, and rap like a pro in all of them. 4) the fourth member is MINHO, the main rapper of SHINee! The most wow thing about him is that he considered as one of best idols in athletics, so in every athletic show, Minho will get No.1 above all the idols.. So in Kpop, Minho is example in strength and competition (in Korean shows, there is sentence like "you are so Minho!", that means you are very competitive and good in sports!). 5) Finally the youngest member is TAEMIN, and his nickname is Korean Michael Jackson! No one can see Taemin's dance without saying: "OMG that's Michael Jackson!", he dance since he was 9.. and there are a lot of international dancers worked with him.. and yeah he is the role model of 90% of Kpop idols.. This is SHINee, I hope you enjoy my brief definition..

Randomly worth noting that for RDD, the youngest member was ~16, eldest ~20. The youngest, Taemin, is the last one [currently] in the military. He debuted at age 14, so... Anyway, they make great music, are all gorgeous, are great dancers -- again, Taemin is the standout for the group. They've also all had solo debuts, so those are much worth checking out. I'll let everyone else give you updates on Jonghyun's situation. Glad you found another group to explore!

YESSSSSSSS!!! Please more SHINee! They’re known as the princes of Kpop, legends! There’s not a single bad song in their entire discography, the only way for someone to dislike them is not knowing them! Also they’re funny as hell, one of the most funny and talented groups out there! Vocals, dance, acting, everything! I’d like to see your reaction to their solo stuff too, I think you’ll enjoy them as well ❤

Hi, if you’re really into breaking lyrics you would definitely love discography of Taemin - the youngest member of SHINee. Especially his song like Criminal (which speaks about Stockholm Syndrome) or Advice or IDEA or Want. His lyrics are meaningful and fascinating, also the aesthetics of his MVs are insane not to mention the vibe of his music. Taemin is considered the idol of idols and he’s the blueprint and trendsetter when it comes to solo acts in K-pop. You should definitely dive into his music!

With "Don't Call Me," SHINee (pronounced Shiny -- as in shiny diamonds or shiny stars -- their name has a double ee to show just how brilliant they shine) are just doing what we have all come to expect from them -- showing us something that has never been seen or heard before and starting a new trend. Nothing you hear from them will ever be like anything you have ever seen or heard before. They raise the bar even higher with every comeback. And that's what makes them SHINee. :D With every new song release, SHINee are expected to come out with a style and sound that is brand new, not only for them, but in the industry as a whole. And "Don't Call Me" is a perfect example of that. What you just experienced is exactly what makes SHINee legends. And this is the reason why they are so highly respected, and why almost everyone in the industry who came after them cites them as one of their biggest influences and one of the reasons why they wanted to become a singer and dancer, etc. SHINee are one of the most iconic and influential groups. They are always setting trends, never following them. SHINee where designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from them in any of their songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee. The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. And it is said that within 3 months of SHINee releasing their new song and choreography, you will see that same sound and style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow from both boy groups and girl groups. When SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suit. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything -- with every one of their songs to their dances to clothing trends, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted -- there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in. You just discovered why SHINee still hold one of the top spots after almost 14 years in the industry. If you are impressed now, just wait until you go through their entire discography of songs and MVs. So far, they have 13 full-length albums (7 Korean albums and 6 Japanese albums), several repackaged albums, a multitude of mini albums, numerous OSTS, they each have solo songs and albums and there are hundreds of live performances that will absolutely leave you speechless with their talent. And it only gets more and more impressive as you follow them through their career. They have accomplished a lot in the past 13+ years and they are one of the groups that made Kpop what it is today. However, if you want to see where SHINee truly shines, you have to see their live performances. SHINee are part of the second generation of Kpop and, yet, they are younger than most everyone in their generation and are the same age or even younger than many members of groups who came after them, such as EXO and BTS, etc. which are part of Kpop's third generation. SHINee debuted young and have the experience of seasoned veterans. When SHINee debuted in 2008, Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14, so now they are all in their late 20s and early 30s. (Onew turned 32 in December.) SHINee are some of the most well respected artists in the industry. Onew (Pronounced Oh-New, real name Lee JinKi) -- the one with the hoodie -- is the leader of the group and he has one of the most unique and best voices in the industry. (Onew means, or sounds like, the Korean words for soft or gentle, so he was given his stage name because he has a very calm and gentle personality.) His vocals are unmatched. He even holds the record (40+ seconds) for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch, etc. Key -- the one with the feather headpiece -- is our fashionista of the group who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. SHINee are known for setting trends and never being afraid to experiment, so Key is known for really paying attention to detail when it comes to fashion. He is known for always being unique and wanting to stand out. He is an amazing singer and is a sub-rapper in the group. He is also known as SHINee's dance copy machine. Key has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. He only needs to watch the dance once and he has it memorized. He is also SHINee's fluent English speaker, and he is almost as good as a native speaker. Minho -- the one with the red hair -- is the main rapper and visual of the group, but his vocals are also some of the best in the industry. Minho sings just as much as he raps. He also writes most of his own raps in SHINee's songs. Minho is a top actor and he has starred in numerous dramas and movies. He is also known as a top athlete. He says these days he goes to the gym a couple of times a day to work out just because he likes to work out, but he is also crazy about soccer, and he plays basketball, baseball and golf, and he is good at track and field events, etc., as well. And not only does he enjoy playing all those sports, but he is usually the best athlete on the field and he pretty much wins every time. Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma," and one reason is for his intense passion for sports and his need to always win. Taemin -- the one with the blond highlights -- is considered one of THE BEST dancers in the industry (one of the top 2 best dancers of all dancers in Kpop), and that's not just by fans but by everyone in the industry, including his peers. Taemin's nickname is the Korean Michael Jackson. He is also one of the most popular solo artists and he is a member of the Kpop supergroup SuperM. Taemin truly is art when it comes to his performances. Although Jonghyun wasn't in the MV -- because he passed away 4 years ago -- in order to get to know SHINee, you have to get to know him as well. He is known as one of the best vocalist in Kpop who was one of the most prolific songwriters and composers of his generation. Jonghyun wrote and composed almost 40% of SHINee's songs, plus he wrote all of his own solo songs and numerous songs for other artists, such as EXO's "Playboy" and songs for Taemin, IU and Lee HI, etc. He was one of the only SM artists to be given complete artistic control over his work, including several of SHINee's song selections. SM knew that if Jonghyun was involved in any way that the song would be a hit. He was extremely respected within the industry as a songwriter, composer and singer. He was one of the very first Idols to be known for this songwriting and composing skills. SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. Once you get to know their voices you will always be able to pick them out of a crowd just by the sound of their voice. Most fans (SHINee World or Shawol for short) will tell you we know who is speaking or singing within 1 second even with our eyes closed, with them standing in a crowd of screaming fans. Each of their voices are that unique -- there is no one with a voice like any of theirs. That is why they are "The Princes of Kpop". SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. So unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, SHINee will always sing live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and continue to sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography for more than 3 hours straight in concert. SHINee set the standard. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach. You should also check out SHINee's live performance stage for "Don't Call Me," ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N3103Su_-cM.html. (If you like the piano in this song, just wait until you see their live performance. The piano becomes even more noteworthy in the live. I won't spoil it, you will just have to watch it to see what I mean. :D)

I see a Locket (Key / Kim KIbum fan) in the making. I said Ooooooo myself when he (in a punky glam haircut) smirks in the video for their song "Lucifer" and he was instantly my "ultimate bias" in K-Pop parlance, and still is many years later. Don't kid yourself you ARE *HIS* target audience! Rarely have I made a better decision. His most recent song / video "Bad Love" is EPIC as is Taemin's final before entering the military "Advice"

Shinee has often been called the "Princes of Kpop and are known for their perfect harmonies, meaningful lyrics, and cutting edge fashion. Others of Shinee's more recent songs to sample that I like are: Atlantis Marry Me C.O.D.E. Heart Attack Some my favorite solo songs/MV's to are 1 - by Taemin: Advice, Criminal, & Idea 2 - by Minho: Heartbreak & I'm Home 3 - by Onew: Blue & Dice 4 - by Key: Bad Love & Hate That
