You're not Synesthetic, are you? Your emotional reactions feel very poignant, and while it's clear you know a lot about music and composition, you don't overanalyze everything in the moment. Very enjoyable to watch someone go through the emotional rollercoaster Tool often sends us on without trying to pick it all apart.
IMO "The Pot" is probably the most "radio friendly" of Tool's songs, hence why it's the most popular. Also you must absolutely do 10 000 days part 1 and 2. Very deep and emotional.
@@wujekcientariposta I think your dates are a little wrong. The album Lateralus was released in 2001, so Schism couldn’t have been popular in the late 90’s 😅 But you’re right, Schism was probably their most popular song before The Pot.
Whilst 10000 days is an amazing set of songs it's possibly two of the worst picks to get a feel for the band as a whole imo. It's a eulogy to his mother, those songs are *very* different to Tools usual modus operandi, and very intentionally so
Sober was always their most popular song...to the point where Tool was almost a one-hit wonder before Stinkfist. It's strange to see how the new/streaming generation views Tool. The Pot being more popular than Sober is a day that I never thought I'd see....but it's cool to see Kira leaning towards the Proggy long songs where most of my Gen X compatriots prefer Undertow/Aenima eras overall.
Their drummer is polyrhythmic. And the band complements that perfectly. It’s always crazy to see someone hear them for the first time that is why I watch reaction videos of them. I have been listening to tool for 30 years. All of their songs will grow on you some will hit you right away, but the more you listen to it the more you will be infected by its beauty keep them up . Tool army!
One of the most impressive things about Tool is the bass playing, it's pretty difficult to notice it when hearing first time but most of the synth like sounds that you hear on tracks like schism's bridge(a great example) are made by the bass, he uses some Pedals and the volume knob on his instrument to create these sounds.(i imagine that if you never seen them live and hadn't noticed you'd be blown away on seeing how he does these sounds live.)
Kira loves bass and I have been recommending certain bands and specific songs within that certain band in the Metal genre! And still respecting her metal journey with regard to her busy ass life as well. Went off on a tangent there! Yes, Justin is just an absolute genius on the bass. Cliff Burton was also ingenious like sir Chancellor!! 😄
“Pneuma” by TOOL is an absolutely masterpiece as well, they even have a LIVE drum cam video as well as showing off legendary drummer Danny Carey, it’s a drum cam but still a very good live mix which you will definitely appreciate too but both versions are indescribable! Welcome to the 👽👽🔥TOOL ARMY🔥👽👽
Definitively mind blowing, especially the live video. Every time I listen to the album, my favorite song changes, though... being Descending right now. Also, "...why is it that all the songs are 6 minutes..." will not hold.
I think that live drum cam video will be watched by future drummers, the same way drummers watch Buddy Rich drumming videos. Danny Carey is our era's Neil Peart/Bill Bruford. So lucky to have seen him on the Lateralus tour. There are many virtuosos on drums, but they would all agree that Danny is an anomaly in a league of his own.
A little info on Maynard James Keenan...He actually did move out to Arizona. He's lived there for many years on a ranch in the Arizona desert. He has a winery on the ranch where he grows his own grapes and makes his own custom wine that's very well-recieved as a top tier wine in the business. He also has a restaurant and a food truck associated with the winery. That's actually his day job. Tool, APC, and Puscifer are his other job now.
Just got back from a quick trip to Arizona. Stopped by Maynard's restaurant in Cottonwood and passed through Jerome where the winery is located. Beautiful country, no wonder he decided to settle there. If you're ever out there check it out!
I’ve been to the Pucifer store and his Winery next door (and got very drunk in there). It’s a pretty cool scene. Any restaurant you go to in Jerome you can ask any waiter if they’ve ever seen Maynard and all of them have stories and it always includes a version of Maynard being very kind to them.
Visiting his restaurant and winery are on my bucket list plus Jerome Arizona is technically considered a haunted town so it would be pretty cool to check that out for people who are fans of paranormal stuff
@@scottlefaivre6889 I stayed at the Jerome Grand Hotel (supposedly the most haunted site in Jerome) and , sadly, never saw a ghost. However, it is pretty creepy because it used to be a hospital and there are remnants of that with oxygen lines, etc. still coming out of the walls.
Parabol/Parabola must listen together. Reflection/Disposition/Triad aka The Holy Trinity is a great listen together. All off the Lateralus album. You'd like Right in Two, it's a soft/loud song you seem to enjoy
I gotta be honest, I cringe a little when Triad is included even though I know it's part of the 'trinity'. I love disposition and reflection a bunch but then I feel like Triad comes in and kind of brings them down. Triad and Culling Voices are probably the only 2 Tool songs I tried hard to like and just can't bring myself to listen to haha.
@@barrybarry8564 Triad is the outro of the Trinity. I love all of Tools outros but I know some struggle to enjoy them. Take the Grudge for example, the outro is chaotic and I love it but others don't. Same thing could be said about Tool's intros, some people like them, some don't and would rather get straight to the song.
@@oneoverprime1608 the funny thing is, I love the live version of triad with the drum cam. It's crummy quality, but if you check it out, it has grooves and fills in it I think are brilliant but in the studio version I never really get many "that was nice" moments. To each their own, but I would bet that most people new to tool would be left on a high at the conclusion of reflection then kind of be scratching their heads at the end of triad. I think it's a song, probably like 7empest, that should kind of be held onto until later in someone's tool discovery, after theyre more accustomed to all the wild time signatures and stuff. Before that it would probably just seem too jumbled and confused. Sorry for the wall of text lol
"Such a drums fan" realizing that they've been missing out on the best drummer alive. We're all here for you to get to the 2019 Fear Inoculum album. One of the masterpieces has a live drum cam performance out there too. I'd listen to the studio version first though :) You're entertaining. Thanks! Also, Schism won a Grammy. It is really epic-ly complex :)
Danny Carey is absolutely amazing, but the best of all time? I think Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree has him beat. They are both phenomenal drummers though.
This was fantastic! Really enjoyed this one. Your facial reactions are, I know it was for me, the very same faces we all make upon discovering Tool for the very first time. For me it wasn't until their Aenima album that I really got imto them. I was 15 when it was released and it really made an impression on me. So glad to see you are really starting to get into them. It really shows!
I cannot express the envy of hearing them for the first time again. They are absolutely one of the greatest bands to walk the Earth. Welcome to the Tool family 🙂
The Pot is a bit of a palette cleanser. After multiple complex polyrhythmic songs, sometimes you need a simple banger to rest your brain and just rock out
The Pot is the best song on that album, imo. It is in 4/4 for a lot of the song, but it doesn’t have a 4/4 feel, and that’s the brilliance of those guys.
I make a habit out of watching Tool reaction videos. Everything about this video makes me happy 😊 Your live reaction, edited down so you have time to delve into some of the lyrical content afterward, pure enjoyment, the sometimes shocked or blissful faces you make, it brings me back to my first listens to Tool. Spot on! More!
You touched on something very important, I feel, for me anyways, about TooL "creating sounds [you] hate". Throughout most of their music you will find a common thread: unease. Whether through music, imagery, lyrics, or a combination thereof, there is an intent to make you feel uncomfortable. When you're uncomfortable, you're vulnerable. And through vulnerability truth can be found. Because if you can peer into the dark corners of yourself, the places you look past and try to forget, the aspects you try to pretend aren't there and that you hide under floorboards and locked basement doors in your mind; there you will find the keys to your own revelation and growth. TooL can be just music to listen to. But like a trained hypnotherapist, if you allow it, TooL can become a guide that leads to an internal mirror.
Tool is undoubtedly one of the most musically and lyrically dense, intricate and important bands in decades. Such a joy to see them still standing the test of time with a new generation of listener. Keep discovering, Kira!
Man your reactions are just the best. Love tool The pot is pretty much the least tool tool song. Its more pop less prog, but still a great one. On that album there are some awesome songs: Vicarious Jambi Right in two Honestly tool has so many great songs its hard to choose, but those are the popular ones) UPD: Also Right in two has the most unrhymable line ever. I have no idea haw Maynard managed to fit it in there.
@@kirawasareactor Here is the link to Tool "Pneuma" live Danny Carey drum cam - Mind Blower fo show! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FssULNGSZIA.html
Great reactions on this channel. This is no exception. As a musician, I think you are a great example of how beautiful the human connection to music can be. You are a special kind of person, not everyone has the capacity to be moved so deeply by music, and to see it in such a pure form is very special.
You should listen to Tool version of "No Quarter", a cover they made of Led Zeppelin. I mean come on, it's Tool covering Led Zeppelin, do I need to say anything else?
Amazing band. The whole band are quality. Seen them a few times (including a club gig many years ago in Glasgow) and never been anything other than blown away. Intelligent, powerful and full of emotion. Danny Carey (the drummer) is a massive fan (and also was a friend as he got to know him personally) of Neil Peart of Rush. The first gig Tool did after Neil's passing Danny did a drum tribute to him which was so lovely. The band won a grammy last year and Danny named and dedicated his part of the award to 2 drummers who were most important to him, John Bonham of Led Zep and Neil from Rush! For both of those things I have a deep love and respect for him as a person. Loved your reaction as always with the look on your face near the end of Aenema making me laugh out loud! It is quite disturbing part so understandable. Have a good day.
This is so fun to watch as a life long Tool fan. Just pure joy. I’ve always said they are a band that I could rock out to or fall asleep to, and your comment of being loud and soft at the same time is bang-on. Thanks for posting!
Just watched your “schism reaction” again…. your enthusiasm is amazing… your surprise at where the music goes to and the many levels the song as…. keep reacting, love it!!!! Kill switch engage… perhaps??
There’s nothing quite like watching a music reaction channel falling hard down the prog metal rabbit hole. Loving the tool reactions! You should check out Gojira next!
So, and interesting thing to do is to listen to the song "Judith" by Maynard's second band A Perfect Circle, and then listen to 2 songs by Tool back to back that somewhat merge into each other "Wings for Marie (Pt 1)" followed by "10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2)" as all three songs are about his mother and her faith despite suffering from paralysis for approximately 10,000 days (a little over 27 years.) His view point in Judith has changed by the time Wings and 10,000 Days were recorded. ~Be Blessed
Jimmy, off Aenima, is the prequel - Judith had her stroke when Maynard was 11 "11 and she was gone, 11 is when it all began, 11 is standing still..." "...you are the voice that's been calling me back ho-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-me"
I think the whole Ænema topic can be seen in almost every major "capital"/influential city. People are so deeply committed to uphold their spin in the hamster wheel that they don't notice that they themselves are a cog in the circus machine. Once you realize the reality it becomes very frustrating, every person you meet is solely there for their own personal gain. It's like when you mention something "controversial" and you quickly notice how many people actually just silently disappears.
Interesting thing about Tool's music, even if you don't like a particular song (or perhaps Tool in general) that song (and the band) can still take you on a journey somewhere you have never been. ~Be Blessed
10,000 Days actually won a Grammy for the production value. It's an absolute production marvel and sounds so friggin good. Usually people love Lateralus more, but for me, 10,000 just has so much going for it.
PLEASE keep reacting to TOOL! Your two videos are some of my favorite reactions I've ever seen to the band, and you have SO MUCH left to discover! I also highly recommend getting into their newest album Fear Innoculum as well, as it sounds like their next evolutionary step. I recommend Eulogy from Aenima, The Grudge from Lateralus, Vicarious from 10,000 Days, and Pneuma from Fear Innoculum :) Spiral out!
There is an all strings version of Schism (I think it's by The Vitamin String Quartet?) that is amazing. It's become one of my all time favorite instrumentals. ~Be Blessed
Kira I love your reactions because it's fun to see a young Metal Head in training. :) Fun little Tool jem. @ On CD versions, the song is hidden at the end of the last track of the album, "Opiate", and begins approximately 6 minutes and 10 seconds into the track after "Opiate" has concluded.
I think the next step for her would be system of a down or gojira maybe. Lots of singing, bit some screaming too. Then eventually after she's used to screaming she'll start liking it, then we can get her to react to some other stuff
I just saw Tool in concert for the 4th time, San Diego 01/19/22 it was awesome!!! As always. I had 5th row floor seat center section and I bought a concert poster signed by the band!!!
This video popped up in my recommended videos and I have to say, you are a fucking awesome human. Totally made my day better to see this video. Thank you. Oh, and TOOL is the greatest band of all time. You can only listen to each song once for the first time so really just let yourself enjoy it!
The Ænima CD case had a lenticular (holographic) morphology. The CD-tray had the South-West of the USA, collapsing into the Pacific, creating Arizona Bay. Comedian Bill Hicks described this in his comedy album "Arizona Bay"
Hey Kira, Checking out your awesome Tool video, again! I love it!! So here is the thing! If you really want to understand and feel the music of Tool, Then you need ea each song in each to listen to Tools albums in chronological order for real because Maynard pretty much chronicles his whole life in the lyrics and music of each song on each album.
I always feel like Aenima is an environmental song. When he refers to 'Mom' I take that as being mother nature and so he sees all the bullshit humans do to the environment and is furious that we care more about our lattes and haircuts than we do about the planet. Most people are so vain and short sighted that they could care less that the planet is going to hell but as long as they're alright with their picket fence and land rover that's all that matters to them. So he's praying for natural disasters to kill us all off so that mother nature can take back what's hers and reclaim itself and rewild. But I could be way off hahaha tool are very open to interpretation usually, there's no wrong way to look at it
Lateralus IS one of the best albums ever, right up there alongside The Beatle's Revolver and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon (imo). Was awesome seeing you appreciate that while listening to it for the first time :)
I love the line "Pure intention juxtaposed" . Sums up every differing view on anything. It's hard to come to an agreement when both sides are coming from pure intentions. Beautifully summed up in three words.
I feel like you would be a blast to hang out with. You have a very positive and fun attitude. Loved your reactions. My favorite Tool songs are Parable and Parabola. You have to listen to them back to back as they go together. Hope you give them a try.
Hey Kira, I totally love this video! I have been waiting patiently for the day I could see you react to TOOL!!! FYI Bassist Justin Chancellor, wrote the music for SCHISM! The one member from the U.K Whom, I thought he was from Australia and he said he would get that from people all the time! And , Danny Carrie is a freak on the drum kit! Love you! Bye 👋
@@kirawasareactor Hey Kira, firstly I have always since I was a kid, had a fascination with Australia and the culture, eco system, which marvelously unique the indigenous people that is still current in the present, and finally yall's accent is more home grown ! I can definitely tell the difference from the U.K. accent! In my opinion U.K. sound snobby. A bit of a chip on there shoulders. I love the Australian accent. I hope I can one day visit Australia 🇦🇺
One of the most underrated songs on Fear Inoculum is my favorite one of the album. My recommendation is 'Culling Voices' . I recommend this one because it is a unique sounding song where Maynard's voice becomes an instrument.
Your reactions are so pure and in The Zone. It would be great to see you try out the more "trippier" of Tool's back catelogue. Like "Third Eye" off Ænima, "Reflection"/"Triad" off Lateralus and "Lost Keys (Blame Hoffman)"/"Rosetta Stoned" off 10,000 Days. If you wanted a trippier Undertow song to dip your toes, maybe "Swamp Song". Food for thought. I'd just love to see the more "out there" Tool songs melt your brain.
Love from India. Megadeath, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath , Tool helped me to overcome many intricate phase of my life. Saw Mustaine live back in 2015. You have no idea how much I admire your reaction, I would request you to sing some. You are an amazing singer. It's 4.41 am and I am watching your reaction feels like we both are listening together in the same room. Keep safe .
Ænema , if you read the lyrics and then close your eyes....its very theatrical . it kind of feels like something out of a movie lol The Pot is just an amazing piece of art.....Schism is amazing!
The Arizona Bay concept in Aenema comes from the late comedian Bill Hicks, who Tool are big fans of, sampled on Third Eye, and indeed dedicated the Aenima album to him. Basically the idea is that when Southern California sinks into the Pacific Ocean after an earthquake, the coastline will move inland to Arizona
Psychiatrist, Carl Gustav Jung was Swiss. So the J in his last name is pronounced as a Y. Schism switches back and forth between unusual time signatures. It won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2002. Personally my favorite Tool song is, "Swamp Song", from the album, "Undertow." ✌️❤️🌹
Watching your reaction for the first time and to one of my favorite band's TOOL. It's like the Euphoria I first felt when I first listened to Pink Floyd for the first time. I akin TOOL on a Next-Gen Pink Floyd trip, everything melds so well. Everything from the Singer, to the drummer, the guitarist and the bassist, it just melds so well that it's, ORGASMIC.
Best reaction video ever, can't wait for the day when you hopefully do Wings Part 1 & Part 2. And the live Pneuma drum video to close would be cherry on top! The peak of their emotional charge & the peak of their technical virtuosity. Keep up the amazing work!!
Band recommendation: Katatonia. Katatonia are the masters of the sad, somber and beautiful love songs in Metal.Doom Metal masters. Here are some awesome songs by Katatonia- •Old heart falls •Criminals •Lethean •Dispossession •In death,a song One of the greatest bands ever. (Btw check out Swallow the Sun-New Moon.Same sad somber Doom Metal style like Katatonia but EVEN BETTER. Absolutely beautiful band)
With regards to the 10,000 Days album: In my opinion, Vicarious and Jambi will likely connect with you more based on their past material. Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days (must be heard back to back because it's literally part one followed by two) are emotionally powerful and have incredibly diverse musical textures with a "softer" sound. Intension and Right in Two must be played consecutively as well and they're incredible tracks with gorgeous musicality and very thought provoking lyrics which are fairly straightforward. Enjoy the rest of your journey! It's fun watching your path of discovery.
Good to see you appreciating the genius of Danny Carey. One of my favorite Danny Carey facts is that he once made a deal with the devil. No one knows what Danny got in the deal but the Devil got drum lessons.
I think you'd be a great conductor(maestro) just based on your Schism reaction. You really got the tempo of the music kinda fast and you moved to the song as if you already were a conductor, tbh. Really awesome! hahah
What continues to blow me away in the few (sorry) reactions I have seen from you is that painting behind you on the wall. I almost feel like just watching other reactions from you of bands that I do not like, just to see that painting. ;) But seriously, it is just such a cool piece of art. On one hand, it apparently depicts a close up of part of a tree, and though this is somewhat apparent, still the painting is so abstract and ambiguous. Like the first other association I have there, with the very reddish brown branching tree it looks like branching blood vessels and then everything that at first was a give away of it being a tree somehow shifts in meaning ... that is just a painting I could stare at forever.
Another great band closely tied to tool is rage against the machine, "killing in the name of" is their go song, also "know your enemy" has maynard (from tool) singing in it.
i know and love a few RATM songs. killing in the name is one of my favourites. but there's a lot of RATM i could react to because i haven't heard everything
I feel that its only really tool and radiohead that are pushing music forward in interesting innovative ways . So glad both these bands are around today
Love your reactions! Just the same how I felt growing up and hearing them for the first time myself. I was rocking out just like you when I was growing up, trying to lock on to the beat and just jamming out. Once you hear the songs a bunch of times and you really start to lock on to all the transitions, its a great feel!
