I love it when someone discovered VP for the first time. They are the dramatic of the 3 a capella groups. They take on the role 100% and they become that character or singer for that time.. They have a good following. Im subscribing and looking forward to seeing more. 😊

One of my favorite things is watching reactors find Voiceplay for the first time. Great reaction, I saw the emotion in your face and heard it in your voice. For a contrast, I would suggest We Don't Talk About Bruno next, Carry On Wayward Son after that. The lineup has changed in the last two years. Geoff (bass) and Layne (beatboxer) are founding members circa 1997. Earl Elkins, high tenor , also founding member, left in 2020 for personal reasons. J None, baritone, left in 2021 to join the US Navy and sing with them. They are still one man short, but are using featured artists to fill the gap. They've done that even with a full crew when necessary for the musicallity. Most arrangements are done by Geoff or Layne, whichever arranges does the video, including set design and build, and costumes. They use a camera crew and makeup artists, but everything is them. Amazing. Sorry to be long winded, really enjoyed your reaction and look forward to more. Welcome to the rabbit hole!

thanks for your reaction, I enjoyed it. Yes, Omar was the one you pointed out. Cesar recently said he was the one who hit the high note, although apparently all three could have done it. It was a G5. VoicePlay does a wide variety of songs that roughly fall into 3 categories: epic performances like this one (also Halo, Hoist the Colors, Warriors, My Mother Told Me), Disney/Broadway songs/medleys (all of the members have either worked for Disney or Universa) most recently "We Don't Talk About Bruno" but also medleys like Moana, Little Mermaid, and Wicked, and more traditional songs like Tennessee Whiskey, Can't Help Falling in Love, I Will Survive. Geoff, the bass, has a personal channel that's putting out very high quality performances - most recently a cover of Bill Withers' Ain't No Sunshine. Have fun - looking forward to more reactions.

Good info, except the highest note is a G#5.

Tried to read through the comments so that I wouldn't be repeating anything here. Always worth mentioning that these guys do their own videos, directing the shots (usually hire the steadicam operators, but just recently have done a little of that themselves as well), doing the lighting, scenery, costuming and editing, etc. They do the initial mix, but the final is almost always done by Ed Boyer, the a cappella world's premier mixing engineer. Very rare song that isn't arranged by someone in the group, most of them are done by Layne (beatboxer) or Geoff (bass). This one was Geoff's arrangement.

Welcome in Voiceplay's Rabbit Hole 😁. You ask an unanswerable question... "What kind of music they do?". Well... They kinda specialise in "theatrical" musical, even literally (they have a number of medley videos from either Broadway (most recent I can remember, "Wicked Medley", "The Greatest Show Medley"), movies (like "Hoist the Colours", from "Pirates of the Caribbean III") or Disney animated (their last in this area has been "We don't talk about Bruno", from "Encanto", but they have as well a "Moana Medley", a "Frozen Medley", a "Little Mermaid Medley" and so on. They also cover some video games soundtracks: among these I find remarkable "Halo Theme" (in the second half of the video the "special guest", co-founder and former beatboxer for the group, explains the reasons why they made that video, thus showing the "human" side of them... Totally worth the while), where Geoff hits the lowest note to date, a clean B0... TWICE, "My Mother Told Me" (from "Assassins Creed: Walhalla"), "The Dragonborn comes" from Skyrim (if you like bass, here's some impressive stuff 😁), and more. Then they have the "Halloween series" as I call it, with songs from "Nightmare before Christmas", where they theatricality shows off. And much much more. They have a lovely sense of humour, and are friends with Home Free since the times of a TV "talent show" they both participated. They have a quite "light and fun" video together, "Survivor - Zombies vs Hillbillies", in which Voiceplay are the zombies and Home Free the hillbillies 😁. They also have series of "ACA ten best [fill the blank]" and shorts and more. They also had a few changes in their cast in the last few years, but others will be more precise about this. 🙂 I enjoyed the reaction, and I look forward to watch more. 🙂

They are an amazing group of performers. Very versatile in every sense. You will enjoy anything they've done. Along with the other suggestions mentioned I would add Carry On Wayward Son, and Go the Distance, also some older ones: Sh-Boom and Mr Blue Sky.

Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole. #TheatreKidsOfACappella. I fell down it two years ago along with the bass Geoff Calstellucci's channel of Low Bass covers. They cover a lot of different genres, including Disney, Broadway, etc. VoicePlay and Home Free are my two favorite Cappella groups.

one of the great things about voiceplay is that they do as much as possible themselves Geoff (the bass) or Layne the beat boxer usually do the arranging and Geoffs wife is their production manager. They source the costumes and the locations and Eli (pronounced Ely) usually does the lighting ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I enjoyed your reaction, thanks! The VoicePlay rabbit hole runs beautifully and harmoniously deep so any of the suggestions already made would be welcome. VP are second to none when covering Disney or show tunes but cross many different musical genres with ease! I look forward to anything VoicePlay or Geoff related! 🙂👍

I think that you must have a great deal of confidence to be an a cappella group and tackle a hard rock iconic song by Aerosmith. But they manage to pull it off. I have to confess I am not into heavy-metal groups or really loud groups, but of course I’ve heard the song. However because they took it more slowly and there wasn’t the instrumentation the lyrics really jumped out at me and made me appreciate the song that much more. As far as the group, Geoff Castellucci, their bass singer and Layne Stein, beatboxer and Earl Elkins, their prior laser tenor all met in middle school and started performing, releasing their first album under a different group name in 1997. That at that time they use the group 4 :2: 5. They are one of the three top a cappella groups out there, but unlike the others they do not have a record label or a publicity group so they aren’t as well known. They have quickly become my favorite, partly because they take risks that other groups may not. They don’t answer to anyone but themselves. I also like that they don’t “stay in their lane”. They go from hard rock to old classics like Sh Boom to Disney, then Wicked, then Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa. It’s pretty hard to pin down what they do. It would probably be easier to try and figure out what they don’t do. But they don’t do a lot of hard rock. I think it’s pretty challenging without instrumentation. Many of us are referring to this as Warriors 2.0. I did see that several people have recommended that you react to Warriors by Imagine Dragons. It was written for a league of legends video game tournament and is extremely post apocalyptic as well. At that time the group also contained Earl, their originating high tenor, and J who was their baritone. The story goes that the zombies came and captured Earl and J and whisked them off. Later they found Omar and Cesar wandering around, gathered them into the band and now they’re ready to do battle again. Warriors is not technically a cappella. Layne and J are both accomplished violinists and J plucks the violin and plays for part of this song where Layne just burns that electric violin up. I had not heard the song before so looked it up. And found a clip of the original which was set to video clips from the game. It is about a dystopian society rebuilding “from the dust.”Definitely has become one of my favorites, although it’s not a kind of music I normally follow. Subscribing in hopes that you will pursue VoicePlay. They are definitely worth your time. You might also check out the bass’s personal channel. He recently dropped an absolute stunning cover of Ain’t No Sunshine by the late Bill Withers. One of the things I do really really like about VoicePlay is they always change it up but similar enough that there was no mistaking that they are honoring the original artists.

I enjoyed your reaction- thanks! They are a group from Orlando Florida (they all have experience working as performers at Universal and/or Disney theme parks) and they are often referred to as the theater kids of acapella groups. Lots of great information given about them from the other commenters. Aside from the great singing and harmonies, they do the vocal arrangements and the production themselves in their own studio (PattyCake Productions) in the Orlando area. Their Disney covers are the best around (My favorites are "Little Mermaid Medley", "Hoist The Colours" and "We Don't Talk About Bruno"). If your into adventure gaming you would enjoy "Skyrim Dragonborn Comes", "Hallo" and "My Mother Told Me". They also cover a variety of other music genres as well. Geoff Castellucci also has his own channel that is amazing. All of the song suggestions in the comments are great so I am hoping you will react to more Voice Play.

Actually they don’t do that many at Pattycake Productions. They use the Orange Studios a great deal. They also have rented horribly rundown houses as well as beautiful Ed states. They have access to the studios at Pattycake productions because Layne Stein the beatboxer and Tony Wakim, baritone before J co-own it.

This version of Aerosmith's Dream On is super different and I absolutely love their take on it. I love Voiceplay because they're another fantastic acapella group. Does anyone know if Aerosmith themselves have heard this and given an opinion? Their dum dum dum dum backgrounds starting at 3:13 reminds me of Yes singing Leave It in acapella. Glad you liked this. Thanks for your reaction.

Good thing you liked the bass, Geoff castelucci has an amazing range and a lot of solo work (worth reacting). Cesar (mohawk guy) who sang the highest harmony is their baritone, but a jack of all trades, and so is Eli (bald singer),but he is technically a tenor. They always have a guest nowadays, two members left, the baritone is now Cesar, and the guest rotates between male and female guests, which Omar frequently is. The music is arranged by Geoff (bass) or Layne (vocal percussion/baritone), i don't know who is responsible for this one. I'd recommend the dragon born next, or the halo song. You don't need to like the games to be amazed, i don't play any.

Geoff arranged this one, which means he was also in charge of the video -- location, costumes, video editing, etc. They brought in Tony Wakim as co-director, and Rick Underwood who is their go-to guy for makeup effects.

Yes, that was Omar Cardona in the middle. The group's high tenor spot has been open since 2020 and they haven't declared a permanent replacement yet. But Omar has been a guest on four of their vids, so he's probably a prime candidate.

Nice reaction!!! Aurora covers a lot of ground in her comment-I recommend all the songs she mentions. As for the cast of Voiceplay, the bass is Geoff Castellucci-he also co-arranged this song (they brought in someone to help with it, mainly due to time constraints, but usually either Geoff or Layne Stein, the beatboxer, do the arrangements). Layne is, of course, the beatboxer, but sometimes we also get to hear him sing, and his arrangements are stellar. Eli (ELee) Jacobson, the first one to sing, also does lighting for most of the videos and he’s got one heck of a rock voice. Cesar De La Rosa (with all the hair) is listed as the group’s baritone, but it was him nailing those really high notes in this. And yes, Omar Cardona is the guy who did all the runs and most of the solos. He’s always a welcome addition to the group, and you’ll see him in lots of videos. I hope to see more Voiceplay reactions from you-great reaction!!

They do a wide range of song, often with fabulous costumes and sets. They are very good at character voices and such. If anything they specialise in things which have a strong visual like Disney tunes, video games and songs from films and musical theatre. Currently they are 4 people and always have a guest which changes each song though there are several regulars. Classics for character voices are Oggie Boggie song and This is Halloween both from Nightmare before Christmas. More recent ones i suggest include "We don't talk about Bruno" and "If I were a rich man/girl" both featuring Ashley Diane. Halo and Dragonborn comes as two very different tunes from videogames as well as My mother told me and Hoist the colours . Do check out Geoff's channel he does some amazing solo stuff with multiple versions of himself. Try Far over the misty Mountains, Good rest ye merry Gentlemen and of course 16 tons. For more light hearted stuff try Monster Mash.
