Hoist the Colors, The Dragonborn Comes, the HALO theme, The Little Mermaid Medley (Geoff is Ursula) and by Geoff on his own channel, Sixteen Tons, Big Bad John, The Headless Horseman. Loved your reaction, thanks. VP is one of the most under appreciated groups of any description out there. EVERYTHING they do is top notch, not a bad performance in the lot, even the much older stuff is great. This is Ashley's second performance with them - her first was an updated, really fun version of "If I Were a Rich Man/Girl" from Fiddler on the roof. Agree with Christine's comments below. Dragonborn and Hoist the Colors are epics - a clear difference from their comic pieces (like this one, and like Queen in 5 minutes.) They are absolutely RIVETING. You can't take your eyes off of the screen. Layne arranged this one. Last fall/winter Layne arranged a series of minis, each under a minute, that had the whole group veering out of conventional singing into creating synthesized sounds and just a broader use of their voices. The Greatest Showman has strong beatboxing throughout, and there's a section where every single one of them has a very brief beatbox passage, one after the other. My ears went into full meltdown as I was screaming WHAT JUST HAPPENED? I think you'd like it.

The Play part of their nme is there for a reason. Eli is the "litle bald guy" and ceasr is the hairy one. :) Layne and Geoff share the arrangements about 50/50. Thry do everything themselves including serring up the sets and the lighting, except the final mix which is done by Ed. I would say for some mad beatbox work and their voice - though it's a different line-up before two members left, try Queen in Five Minutes. But their version of The Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim is very impressive, also Hoist The Colours.

I love how during the part with Disney Princess Geoff, you see Cesar start to reach out, and then it cuts further back, Geoff is back in the green, but Cesar’s hands are exactly where they’re supposed to be.

I love your comment about “complementing each voice”. That is one thing that I find really unique with VoicePlay is that they have such different voices. Not just whether they’re a bass or a baritone but the timbre of their voice and what they can bring to the mix. Most of their arrangements are written so that each person does get a chance to shine. One thing they’re kind of known for is passing off the lines to each other. One person may start the line and they sort of blend and then suddenly somebody else is singing it and it’s done seamlessly. For beatboxing - where do I start? He does a great job in the Wicked medley. For that they have two featured artists that they’ve worked with in the past. In their cover of HALOA theme song he does a lot of beatboxing and for a short time he’s up against the prior beatboxer who has returned for that particular piece. One of my favorites is still their cover of Carry on my Wayward Son by Kansas. I think Layne does a terrific job in that one and then shows his playful side in the Moana and little mermaid medleys. He doesn’t limit himself simply to what’s in a drum kit. He makes up noises I don’t think anybody’s ever heard before! Thanks for reacting to them. You just got yourself a new subscriber. I’m going to check out your reaction to Geoff . He just released Big Bad John. If you want bass, that and 16 Tons are both really good. I cannot recommend their Dragonborn comes/Skyrim enough. I’m not a gamer but I am obsessed with this piece.

Voice Play is incredible, love them! They are one of the top 3 acapella groups, along with Home Free and Pentatonix. All are wonderfully creative and talented, and each group has its own unique style. If you appreciate professional, high quality videos, check out their work. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

If you really want to appreciate the beatboxing, try their Aca top 10 80s cartoons. They have a whole Aca top 10 series that is recorded and filmed live, so it really shows off what Geoff and Layne can do particularly.

Great reaction, I've been watching for you to react to Voiceplay since you saw Geoff. I agree with many others who've recommended Hoist the Colours and Dragonborn Comes. But also, for an amazing set for Layne's beatboxing, check out the Wicked Medley. The lineup has changed twice in the last 18 months or so. Their high tenor left for personal reasons in mid 2020, and their baritone joined the US Navy last spring and will be singing with them. Cesar de la Rosa, back left, is the newest member, joined them last summer/fall. They are still one member short and are using featured artists to fill the gap. They are absolutely amazing, I'm so glad you found this rabbit hole!!

VoicePlay is a blast 😁 Glad you checked them out! Not all of their stuff is super theatrical, but they've definitely leaned more into that in the past couple of years. Most of them performed at the Universal Studios and Disney theme parks for years, so they come by that honestly. Hard to go wrong with taking a look at anything they do, but a couple of recommendations are Hoist the Colours (arranged by Geoff) and Halo (arranged by Layne; also has Geoff's lowest recorded note. They dedicated this one to a friend of theirs who passed away last year, so don't miss the tribute at the end if you do take a look). Dragonborn Comes is another recent one that's pretty spectacular, especially if you're an Elder Scrolls fan. One last note - you nailed the pronunciation of Eli's name (which almost no one does, so big kudos there), but you switched up Cesar and Eli. Cesar was in the back left and Eli was back right.

So fun to watch and listen to! ♥️ I’ve only discovered Geoff Castelluci in the past 12 months. He does crazy subharmonic bass singing. 😳 I’ve sung in an Acapella chorus for the past 11 years and have found real love for Acapella singing. I sing high tenor (Barbershop lingo), and singing in that sort of group is absolutely incredible and I love the challenge of making chords “ring”. ♥️ 🎶 Cheers!

@@Skullzrapper We did a bunch of virtual singing during the worst of the pandemic…mostly 4-part stuff…we do a lot of flash mobs,…but I’d have to do some digging…it’s been a mess because of the pandemic, but there are recordings…some really good ones. We lost some key people these last 2 years… trying to regroup and get new tech people. I’m an artist in many mediums…but not amazing with technology, unfortunately. 😕 I greatly admire those on RU-vid, like you, with regard to the technological aspects/savvy. It’s impressive!! 😊 ♥️

One of the things I really liked about this grouping, both Cesar and Ashley Diane are native Spanish speakers so accents and mannerisms are spot on. Geoff and Layne both do arranging, he who arranges also edits, video and audio. Eli has no hair, Cesar off to the left.

For some that really highlight their ranges and individual timbres, check out their Little Mermaid Medley, Hoist the Colors, My Mama Told Me, Oogie Boogie's Song, Halo, Skyrim The Dragonborn Comes, and for a little less 'acting', The Man in the Mirror, Carry On Wayward Son, Tennessee Whiskey, and Bang! Basically, go to their channel, click Videos, and you can't go wrong. Also Geoff's personal channel has a lot of great songs, usually just him (and him, him, him, him), and not usually acapella. Welcome to the rabbit hole of VoicePlay/Geoff Castellucci! :-) As others already pointed out, you just got Eli and Cesar in reverse, Eli is the bald tenor and Cesar is the one back left. BTW, Cesar and Ashley are married in real life, and here they are the couple "Pepa-Felix"... :-D And Geoff OF COURSE did the second part of "Isabela" section, he is enacting the "shape-shifter", so it was totally natural that he would do it, clothes included! :-D I loved the way you reacted to this (and to Geoff's before). So I just subscribed, and yes, I hope you do more of both, and also the other two a cappella "big" groups, Pentatonix and Home Free. BTW, at least HF and VP are friends, and it happened that members of one group were featured in videos of the other group, and they even had a funny "battle" in one ("Survivor - Zombies vs Hillbillies"). :-) As for suggestions... In VoicePlay catalogue, I'd say Halo Theme (including the second part, where there's the explanation about why they did that song and a windows over their very human side; and of course "The Dragonborn comes - Skyrim" (it's just AMAZING, and I'm not a gamer, not at all), Hoist the colours, My mother told me, Wicked medley, The greatest show medley, the series from "Nightmare before Christmas", and pretty much every bloody video they've made. :-D In Geoff's, well, you've done High and Dry already, so I would suggest Blackbird and Shenandoah to experience his full range in a kinda "softer" way, plus The House of the Rising Sun; you also can't miss "Far over the Misty Mountains cold", the "miners' series" Sixteen Tons and Big Bad John (his latest one), and the "fun" ones, like Headless Horseman or Monster Mash. But again, chose one and you'll NEVER be disappointed :-) .

Welcome to the cool side of acapella rabbit hole. First of all, Voiceplay is one of those acapella groups that you can't put in a box! They are incredibly versatile! They have a lot of Disney stuff, gaming themes, musicals. If you want to hear more of Layne's beatboxing, I recommend the Halo theme or incredibly crazy beatboxing runs in Phantom of the Opera, and the Disney stuff . More from Geoffs Bass: Halo Theme, my mother told me or The Dragonborn are also coming. It doesn't matter what you want to hear from them. The two literally knock your socks off! Eli the 1st tenor has an incredible range. Always a feast for the ears! I don't know much about the newest member, Caesar, other than his beautiful voice. Oh yes... And Ashley is his wife. Have fun and enjoy them 😉

In terms of acapella, Voice play is getting a lot of recognition lately, but the genre started to get a lot of mainstream success with Pentatonix and Home Free. The beatboxer from Home Free is kinda mind-blowing. You should check out their cover of "Man of Constant Sorrow".

Wow! It’s been two years since you posted this. I sure hope you’ve found the amazing things a cappella groups are doing these days. Not just VP who I love but also Home Free and Pentatonix. When I hear what you said, my jaw hit the floor. No matter if you are into heavy metal, R & B, jazz, rap, country, opera, etc - you can fall in love with these three groups and I hope you have explored them.

If noone has mentioned HOme Free and Pentatonix, those acapella groups are also excellent, the beatboxer in HOme Free has one competitions in beatboxing, and Tim Faust their bass is just as love as Geoff, Avi Kaplan who used to sing bass in Pentatonix are also a bass profondo has Geoff and Tim. Loved your reaction. Voicweplay also likes to play with thhheir voices, and sing in character voices from time to time.

Layne and Geoff trade off doing the arrangements, and Eli (ELee-the tenor) does the lighting for most of their videos. Plus Layne co-owns a production company/studio with a former member of Voiceplay, Tony Wakim, so their sets and overall production values are amazing these days. I’m guessing during the quarantine these guys realized that touring was probably going to be off the agenda for some time to come, so they all decided to buckle down and work on every aspect of their videos, and you can see the results. Someone else suggested The Dragonborn Comes (from the game Skyrim), Halo theme (also from the game-watch to the end for the backstory and a tribute to a fallen comrade), and Oogie Boogie’s Song. All of these are definite musts. Also If I Were A Rich Man/Girl (also featuring Ashley Diane, and another Layne Stein arrangement, so there’s some interesting percussion) and Little Mermaid Medley (features another regular, Rachel Potter, and you’re going to love the humor). Great reaction-I look forward to seeing more!! Voiceplay is my absolute favorite group on RU-vid right now. Also if you’re into bass, Tomi P and Eve Sayin just dropped a medley of Avi Kaplan’s songs that is downright amazing-and if you have not yet heard Avi’s work since he left Pentatonix, you really need to-he’s the king, and all basses bow to him. Start with Change on the Rise, and pay special attention to the background harmonies because that’s where you’ll hear the thunder. The Wellermen also recently dropped a cover of Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold-they brought in a dozen or so stellar basses to call on the dragons-it’s awesome.

Got to check out Hoist the Colors, it is iconic in the way it builds, its visuals, the entire mood. If you're not familiar with the original, click the CC button. Seeing the lyrics really adds to the atmosphere, without taking away from the vocal appreciation. Also, surprisingly, their Little Mermaid Medley (yeah, I know, but seriously). You've got a lot to catch up on with these guys. Try 'My Mother Told Me'. They've been performing in various line ups for 20 years . Geoff and Layne were at the beginning. They were on 'The Sing Off' the year after Pentatonix won, the same series that Home Free were on. You should check them out too. Eli (Elly) is the bald guy, he has a rock voice.

6:09 Where the hell have they been hiding 😂😂😂That was me some years ago I'm a PentaholicArmy, and one day I got recommended their video, an evolution of Pop, and I think it's cz it had a BTS song (Fake Love I think) in the mix. Great reaction! If you want to hear more great A Capella groups try reacting to Pentatonix! They are really great and have so many videos to choose from! (Pentatonix, Home free and Voiceplay are the top 3 groups in A Capella world :) )

Check out them covering Hoist the Colours or Dragonborn Comes for an epic experience. Oogie Boogie's song is another fan favorite with Geoff on the lead the whole song, and contains a lot of character voices and theatrics.

If you want recommendations for really excellent acapella groups, you should really check out Pentatonix and Home Free as well, i think they along with Voiceplay will give you some good examples of acapella.

@@Skullzrapper I think there are 4 songs that are good start to check out. The first 2 have there original Bass singer Avi Kaplan in it. They are "Hallelujah" and the second one is "Bohemian Rhapsody ". Then when Avi left they got a new Bass Singer named Matt Sallee. Try out " Sound of Silence" and "Come Along". They also do a cover of " Can't Hold Us" and a medley for "Daft Punk"
