This was the beginning of the end of WEEI as being the dominant station in Boston. Henry had done an "exclusive" interview with Dennis and Callahan a week or so before this. During that interview Larry Lucchino was sitting next to Henry and running interference for him, deflecting the questions that made him uncomfortable. This was John Henry being challenged live on the air from two hosts who were out for blood after the 2011 collapse. It was epic.

Ya, looking back, this John Henry interview was right around the time Felger & Mazz's radio show was really starting to get hot. Only a few months after this was the 1st time they had beaten Glenn Ordway's show in the weekly ratings on WEEI, and they've been the top show ever since. That was probably the craziest time in John Henry's tenure as team owner. And in the middle of all this, the fact that Felger & Mazz were able to rile him up to the point where he stormed in on their live show and did a full, unscheduled interview with them was definitely a "we have arrived" moment for their radio show. So ya, you're definitely right in saying this was the tail end of WEEI's radio dominance ... 98.5 had been on the air for 2 years(ish) at this point in time, and they went from being the underdog Boston sports radio station to the alpha dogs pretty damn quickly 😂😂

This was great. Definitely one of the best, if not the best, moments in the show's history. So many great moments that started even before he entered the studio with the Lee Dickman encounter. Funny enough, I remember never really feeling like things got too contentious, and felt like Henry was getting some playful digs in every once in a while. Suppose it probably has more to do with his soft voice and demeanor, though. Even when he's pissed, you just can't really tell.

It is indefensible what the Red Sox did to Francona on his way out. They treated him disrespectful from 2004 until he eventually left the building.

I'm not a daily listener to the sports hub but i was living in Maine driving somewhere listening to this happen on the car radio. I thought it was going to be a joke when they said John Henry popped in to the station. I thought it was total BS what the ownership was doing to Francona as well, to me if they wanted to say he was a bad manager or whatever that's fine but snitching on his personal life like a tabloid news story to cover your own ass is bad business in any business. as soon as he started talking I recognized the way he would talk on NESN so I knew it was real, he had the softest angry voice ever. I remember just sitting in my car listening well after i had arrived at my destination... The other one i randomly caught live was when Charlie Sheen randomly ended up on Toucher and Rich right in the middle of his tiger blood drinking breakdown all tuned up talking crazy. I wish the radio had more drop in guests.

Wow, this team should have been Tito's 3rd title team. Shame that it went off the rails. Just to go back to this season, this winter meetings might be the most important one under this regime.

Lived in NE 33 years... Would never be a fan just by virtue of geography, and this is one of the reasons why... Teams have to earn their fan base and if this is how you treat one of your best employees, well, then you deserve everything that's being said about you... Ugh

Henry's slime campaign against Tito was and is despicable. You don't get to be a billionaire by being a nice guy.

Awesome!!! Henry can dish the crap out about TITO!! But, OMG! He CANT AND COULDNT TAKE IT WHEN F & M GAVE HIS CRAP BACK AT HIM & his May wives & his life!!! What Rashness & impulsivity Henry showed by his anger & temper tantrum in storming into 98.5= PROVED TO ME HE DEFINITELY DID IT!! For Goodness sake Globe = Sox “sources?” Hmmm! Just a great moment! Only bad thing is It wasn’t on simulcast yet! Lol! Great job All!!

Unfortunately for Henry, they were not misleading the public. Maz was spot on that their smear campaign of Tito was despicable and about as low as you can get. Thankfully Tito landed on his feet and is a future HOFer while Henry is one of the most unpopular figures in this town. So suck on that John.

I like how Mazz says when he and Felger both worked for a tabloid paper. Meaning the Boston Hearld. And now Mazz works for a rag called the Boston Globe. 😂😂. Full of plagiarists and a bunch of woke phonies. 😂😂😂
