I listened to this segment live as I was sitting at a gate in Logan waiting to fly to Toronto, thinking Fred was talking nonsense again...only to find out in hindsight he absolutely NAILED this take lmao
Think about it.. Fred said their ratings were in a free fall and they wouldn’t recover, that was correct. Fred said Kirk would be fired by the end of the year, Kirk left for mental health reasons and never returned. He said the show would be cancelled, it was not long after. He said Kirk wouldn’t be back on the radio maybe get a job with Barstool, that’s exactly what happened.
If you haven't seen the video of Minehane protesting Felger: go watch it. About halfway through: Scott Zolak comes flying in in his Tahoe, horn blaring, and screaming at Kirk: "Get the f**k out of the way, a**hole!" Funniest stuff I've heard.

The funniest thing is that now Kirk and Fred get along well. Kirk mentioned on his podcast that they patched things up and has defended him several times for heat he has gotten. Kirk and Callahan were #1 when their show was at its peak, which is why t and r hate them, they feared them, and got beat by them in multiple books in 2017
In Boston alone Kirk and Callahan rarely ever beat T & R they used a cumulation of ratings from their FM, AM, and ratings from outside of the market. As Fred and Rich accurately mention in this clip they never beat them in the most important demographic of younger listeners. It was always complete crap that Kirk and Callahan were beating them in the ratings that’s why neither are on WEEI anymore and that’s why Kirk is at Barstool.

if you lose the 2 best radio guys in Boston...of course the ratings are going to suck Dennis and Callahan and Minihanne was simply the best radio ever...could never listen to Toucher and Rich..too afraid I was going to miss something ..with all the craziness that was going with WEEI morning show..from ...the moment I woke up in the morning until the moment I got out of my car at work..I was glued to Kirk..Callahan and Dennis and Curtis and lets not forget Tanguay...you never knew what was going to happen and that was its appeal..but ...this craziness along with egos that was its success also led to its downfall...but while it was there..simply the best radio ever..
@@mikeking1948 you would think?..some of the best movies failed to draw at the box office..while some of the worst critically acclaimed movies became blocbusters..Dennis and Callahan rule the Boston airwaves for many years..its demographic tended to be a little older and after many years was getting a little stale..then 98.5 who already had a younger base because of its former format decided to switch to sports...so yes being new and appealing to a younger audience that were beating WEEI...but ...then along came Kirk and things started to change..and ...then ...the Kirk phenomena started to explode and WEEI started to win the ratings book...but Kirk rubbed people the wrong way... first John Dennis..others at the station including Callahan and then a major no no ..the advertisers..the radio show itself was absolutely nuts and totally unpredictable making it the best radio ever
That was a classic rip, I forgot about this. That said, Toucher talking about how he knows everyone in the industry doesn’t stick as well since that’s the exact point that many of Kirks fans over the years despise about some of the insiders. Kirk got annoying but him and Gerry pushed a lot more third rail issues than any other show. People liked that they went after some of the awful writers at the Globe and garbage ESPN wokeness etc.

I was a day 1 listener on BCN, followed them to the hub. They were great on BCN, started out good on the hub but you can tell management cut their balls off. They are typical morning zoo garbage now, but they were the heir apparent to opie and Anthony before BCN went under. It’s unlistenable now.
The people commenting "Fred nailed it!" are hilariously trying to rewrite history. The reason Fred went on this rant in the first place was T&R were consistently getting beaten in the ratings. Once D&C got a little energy injected into the show (Minihane) T&R fell pretty rapidly. T&R didn't regain their footing until they were up against Mut & Callahan, not exactly O&A or Stern. Now that T&R "battles" Greg Hill everyday they are consistently in 1st place again. The moral of the story? T&R is a mediocre morning show that thrived vs no competition (like Ordway's Big Show). Once REAL competition showed up T&R took their rightful place as bad Morning Zoo. The best part? Minihane played this rant IN IT'S ENTIRETY the same morning Fred said it. Did Toucher ever acknowledge that? NOPE 😂😂😂 "corporate people"
