I like how he doesn't use some magic spell or even a weapon to kill the goblin, he just raises both arms and smashes her down into the ground so violently that her spine breaks in three different ways
Okay, Ketheric is cool and all, but can we talk about the goblin tearing a halberd out of a guard's hands and hurling it with enough force to throw Thorm backwards into his throne? That's honestly terrifying.
he should have been the final chosen tbh. Orin and Gortash are cool and all, but ketheric was actually.much more fleshed out and built up to. Shame he had to go.down first
honestly, the problem is the way its framed. Orin and Gortash being after him still could have been completely fine. The way they should have done it, is making it seem like Kethric is the big bad, the one behind everything, and then towards the end of act 2, you start to get the indication that theres more behind him, and then of course you learn there are two other champions already in baldurs gate. There are other ways it could have worked too. But the issue is, Kethric is presented as 1 of 3 seemingly equal champions, and also the first one you actually meet. So the other two really fail to hit the mark quite as well.
The first time i heard him speak i subconsciously went "ARE YOU SERIOUS?" In his JJJ voice in utter disbelief. Almost made my LG character completely shift sides.
So, they did a good job hyping him up throughout the first chunks of the game, and this scene already does a good job delivering on that hype... And then he fucking donkey kong punches a goblin so hard she becomes soup. Literal perfection.
That's what I love most about this scene. I expected him to incinerate her, or use a spell of SOME sort. Seeing him just... fucking crush her, with his hands alone... Terrifying, and extremely memorable. Ketheric thorm will be one of my new favorite villains for a long while.
Man...Larian is so good, I did stuff in my playthrough that had everyone on the first floor of Moonrise just taunting me ready to fight the hero coming to confront Ketheric. I'm sad I missed this cutscene.
I still liked his introduction in spider-man 1 better. "He wants to be famous, I'll make him INFAMOUS!" or "You're kidding right? HAHAHAHA". JK Simmons is GOAT b/c 100 gold and a crossbow +1 says you didn't recognize his voice either as ketheric. :)
I just got to this part and I gotta say that meeting Ketheric Thorm was intimidating. He's so calm, yet he's so brutal with that kill. Him getting run through and just getting up and saying "try again" and then nearly getting decapitated and coming back was crazy! He definitely rolled a nat 20 on intimidation.
I never went to Moonrise Towers before freeing Nightsong so I never got this scene nor did I get to see much of Ketheric himself. I wanted to do as much of what I thought were "side quests" before going there but it was too late. Quite a shame that I missed out so much of his character.
i finally got to this scene and it plays SO different. One day, YOU'LL STOP THAT WEB SLINGING MENACE AND SAVE BALDURS GATE... what you didn't know that's J.Jonah Jameson (JK simmmons doing the voice?) I sure didn't! surprised me, quality VA work.
I found out recently that this song is also played inside the Temple of Selune in Act 1, but it just doesn't hit the same as it does during this scene.
I'm so confused because I didnt have this scene, they were hostile the very first moment we put a foot on the tower, and Ketheric was on the top of it waiting for us.
I am so angry I didn't get this cutscene in my game . The way moonrise towers were hyped up got me the chills and seeing the shadow land around . So before going to moonrise I did everything else . I leveled up , killed the bosses , freed the Aylin from the shadowfell and when I arrived at moonrise it was basically an all out war , Harpers and my party against all the cultists. My next playthrough will be evil thou so I hope I get to see this cool scene
Freeing Aylin is what caused the story to move on. The game does warn you about this before you enter that area, that things will change and that you should do everything else you still want to do BEFORE entering the Aylin area
Well if you pay attention to the dialogue in the game, Jaheira tells you immediately to literally infiltrate Moonrise because your tadpole allows you to disguise as a real True Soul. She urges you to go there every time you speak with her to investigate Kethric's immortality. Throughout the whole game, you are able to disguise as a True Soul to every Absolute NPC you talk to, such as the Goblin Camp. All the Tieflings and Barcus urge you that the prisoners don't have long and need saving. I don't think the game could point you in the right direction any more without being instrusive lol... you missed so much
@@monke12354 In my first playthrough i figured going to Moonrise would progress the main plot. So i didn't go until the very end like this guy. Sure it seems obvious in hindsight but almost every single RPG i've played prior to this game has a definite "This is the main quest" plot line and it felt like that.
I think it would have been more impactful and intelligent if he let the goblin that hit him live (or turned her into a true soul), and killed the rest. After all that was a damn good throw and she did pretty well for someone a fraction of the size and strength.
Something funny I noticed. Kethric is the only character with an American accent. You think it was a deliberate choice. To make him more seem more unusual. Alien?
Probably more cause it's J.K Simmons doing the voice and he doesn't really seem like an accent guy to me. If a man of J.K Simmons' prestige and talent reads a line in your video game for you, you're probably going to take whatever he gives you because he's motherfucking J.K Simmons. But also yeah as far as in game explanations go I actually thought the same before I found out it was Simmons voicing Thorm. Assumed he spoke like that because he came from a more ancient time and place or something.
Question in the panel from hell you saw shadowheart eyes glow when she ordered the Goblins to kill themselves. Does tav eyes glow too? And if so why does the scene not show.
They write this absolute (heh, pun intended) incredible intro for Ketheric, but then completely bungle it by making him just someone in the way of the rest of the villians. Who are written way, way worse. It's a crying shame really, could have been so so much better than it was.
