(First of all, can we all just appreciate Justin’s fanny pack?? Okay perfect, moving on…)
Today we talk about what to expect when meeting the missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes called Mormon Missionaries or missionaries of the Mormon Church).
Kwaku was baptized recently and thus, was taught the the gospel by missionaries not too long ago. He talks about his side of the story- being the recipient of missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes called the LDS Church). Kwaku gives advice as far as what kinds of things to expect and what you should expect of yourself as well.
David and Justin both served missions and talk about their side of the story. What is it like to talk to people for the first time about the gospel? David and Justin talk about how missionaries aren’t theologians and may not have all the answers. They simply have felt the spirit and know they want others to have the same feeling. That said, they might be very nervous when you meet them.
Just remember, both the missionary and the investigator are learning together so it’s important to show Christlike love on both sides.
What was your experience either meeting the missionaries for the first time or meeting investigators for the first time? Let us know in the comments!

I've had nothing but good experiences with the mormon missionaries. Very kind people. A few months ago, 2 young men were on our street. They talked to my father in law while he was on a walk, and they realized he had dementia and walked with him to make sure he got home Okay. I was waiting for him on the porch. When he got home, he told the guys to get working on the walls. For whatever reason he decided they were the painters. Small case of mistaken identity. Had I needed the help, these young guys were willing to jump in and lend a hand.

I loved meeting with the missionaries the first time, though it didn't lead to becoming a member and being baptized, I still kept my Book of Mormon and pamphlets. Until about 4 1/2 months ago, they happened to come to my door again and asked if I wanted to meet again, and I said sure. They were so nice and kind and understanding. They taught me a lot and made learning fun. It was sad when one got transferred but the new one was still nice and awesome and he (Elder Skinner) along with the other missionary (Elder Wilkey) were part of my confirmation. I lost my way a bit and now I found my way back and meeting with the missionaries again and couldn't be happier!! I can honestly say that I've always had good times and memories meeting with them!!

When missionaries knocked on my door for the first time, they were two of the sweetest guys I've ever met! I was playing a game that they were both excited to play when their mission was up and it broke the ice completely. They weren't meant to be in my area and they were just about to go somewhere else because they were having no luck but one said "I feel like we need to knock on this door", and the rest is history, it has changed my life in the best way! I've come through addiction and depression and I'm so grateful they found me. ❤

My missionaries invited me to be baptised less than 20 minutes after I first met them (literally before my first sacrament meeting and my first lesson, I was ready) and I was baptised 13 days later. I met them for the first time 2 months ago today (I got in touch with them, it's a long story) but it seriously has changed my life. Something I would say to investigators is if you have received a confirmation that the Church is true but you're scared about taking that next step, take a leap and go for it. It's a big commitment but it is so worth it, I was so ready and prepared when the elders invited me to be baptised but I was still a bit anxious a couple of days before my baptism, all those worries went away when I got in the water. Heavenly Father knows what's best for you and He is only going to lead you to places that are going to be good for you. Trust Him ❤

I’ve definitely felt my motivation to investigate dwindle recently in part due to not getting along as well with the new missionaries 😆 The Elders are really nice but a tad...enthusiastic...for my liking and I feel constantly under pressure to have a testimony with them. I guess I’m also still adapting to being in a ward, I couldn’t attend church things at all for 4 months due to my family so now I’m at uni I’m suddenly doing 4 church things a week and wow thats a big leap from just an hour of missionary lessons a week.

I can understand all that you guys are saying. I'm glad there are plenty of sisters that want to go on missions. They can talk to people a little easier sometimes than the Elders do. Maybe a little less intimidating? I can't think of another word to use. LOL! The only other thing I would say is just remember the missionaries are young, and they really want to be good missionaries. Try to have patience, and just be honest with them about where you are at with everything. Keep learning, reading, praying, and you will get there. :)
@Gummybunnybearsmiles
@Gummybunnybearsmiles 5 лет назад
KevlarX2 I think that learning about the gospel can be more emotional than people are anticipating (especially concerning how you get your answers) and Sisters in my experience seem more comfortable dealing with that then Elders 😆 I’ve met a lot of good missionaries of both genders though and I have found lots of Elders to be very kind and sincere. I think it can just be a little awkward for all of us at times since we are all around the same age so a few times with missionaries we’re sort of forgotten the point of lessons and just ended up having casual conversations which isn’t really what either of us are there for...Having missionaries you don’t click with as much though can be a bit of blessing though as it makes you more independent in your gospel study and encourages you to mix with the ward more. I have been guilty in the past of just hanging out with the missionaries instead of the YSA

While watching this video it had suggested the debate Kwaku did with apologia. I immediately went to watch that because this church constantly posts videos that cause pain in my heart cause I feel the hate. I’m so proud of Kwaku for staying true to himself and the church and sharing the true gospel. I’m also super impressed with how calm he stayed, I got pretty livid watching it because of how they talked. Hopefully that video touched some of Heavenly fathers children and brings them back to him and following his true church.

When I was on my mission my companion knocked on a door that had a sign that said "Day sleeper do not disturb." I hesitated and told him, maybe we shouldn't knock on this door? He said I'm going to anyway. Nobody answered so we moved on. A few minutes later that guy came out of his house and chased us down the street and yelled and threatened us on somebody else's lawn. I was like, oh great Elder, we are going to get beat up now! LOL! I look back and laugh about it now. 😂

My missionaries are coming by for the third time in a couple hours. They are so kind and loving. I'm planning to be baptized Nov 3rd! I'm 33, married, mom of 3, and my family is going to FREAK out, haha! I am nervous about the reaction from family and close friends, but I know it's going to be okay and totally worth it. I'm not sure if my husband is going to fully accept or convert any time soon, but that is ultimately out of my hands. I really enjoy this channel! I get out to Utah often, so maybe I can make a meet up someday.

@biganimefan84
@biganimefan84 6 лет назад
@Bluebonnet Bigfoot It's wonderful that you are here with us and are going to be baptized! Not an easy thing to convert, and is much harder to stick around. Focus your efforts on learning with like-minded people, don't listen to anti material. They will likely tell you that a lot of their sources are from official Church sites and books. Partly true, partly not. If you ever do read and/or listen to any of that stuff, a few things to keep in mind... 1. No one is perfect, past and present. Only our Savior, Jesus Christ was ever perfect in mortality. 2. The gift of the Holy Ghost really is needed. And learning how to interpret what He's trying to tell you. He can fill in any blanks for you. 3. Not everything that is written is true and/or accurate. Is what is written or shown true to begin with? What are ALL of the contexts of what is being said? What was his or her upbringing like? What was society like during the time? etc... 4. Anti's will say and try to tell you that you are making a huge mistake and that there is no way that the Church is true. They will say that they are doing this out of love for you and your soul. Which may or may not be true. But their understanding is imperfect and incomplete. Especially in regards to the gospel of Jesus Christ. 5. It is far more common to hear that the Church is true, it is far less common to hear that the Church is a "living" Church. What exactly does that mean to you? To me, it means that revelation for the Church, the World, and ourselves is far from complete. Also, I think especially when we think about our own life cycles, it makes sense. In April 6th 1830, the Church was in many ways like a newborn infant. No idea where the Church would be in that kind of comparison now, but we may just be entering kindergarten as a Church now. 6. Read, ponder, and pray in regards to the scriptures. The Book of Mormon really is made for our day. The more I read and ponder it, the more I know this to be true. It also makes it clear that even in the Church(Zion), things are not perfect. Always strive to have the Holy Ghost with you. 7. If the Holy Ghost has told you that the Church is true, then it is. No ifs, ands, or buts about it! The Gospel of Jesus Christ is perfect, His Church is not(yet). It is ok to have questions, concerns, struggles, etc. Just don't have them damage your testimony and be a positive force for good within the Church.

Thank you so much, @Robert B! I live in Texas, so the misconceptions and anti Mormon ideas are strong. I'm thankful that an incredible person who happened to be Mormon came out of nowhere and into my life. That friendship grew and I eventually ended up on a plane to Utah where my life would begin to change, for the better. I made a handful of friends out there, some Mormon, some not. But there was something about my LDS friends that truly resonated with me. None of them ever forced the Gospel onto me but patiently answered questions and offered insight. The friend that came out of nowhere gave me a quick tour of Temple Square and continued to gently teach me about the Church. He could tell I was really interested and could also see the serendipitous nature of our meeting when and how we did. So completely random, but it felt deeply purposeful. I have always believed in God and Christ but was so done with organized religion, so I fought him on it a bit. Thankfully, he persisted. He gave me The Book of Mormon last year but I struggled to read it and I went to one Sacrament meeting. Exactly a year from when he gave me BOM, I decided to seriously give it a go. This past year has been so emotionally challenging and I felt further from God than I ever have. I found myself crying and praying with the most intense emotional pain I have ever felt. When I said goodbye to my friend he said, "Don't text me again unless it's to tell me you've spoken with missionaries." He was joking but he strongly felt that I needed to take this step. He was right, of course. I have been reading BOM, studying, meeting with missionaries, I watched Gen Con...and it's incredible what I feel. Most people don't believe when I say that I KNEW God and Christ when I was a toddler. Before anyone ever told me about God or I had gone to church. I remember talking with God, just as I do now, in prayer and feeling contentment when He'd give me answers. I remember trying to get family and friends to talk with me about God, but no one really did. Then when I got older and started going to church as a young teen, I was never comfortable with what I was hearing. The God and Christ they were teaching about was not the same as what I had always felt in my heart. But THIS...The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints...this is what I have always felt in my heart. I knew nothing about Joseph Smith and the Restored Gospel...but I knew my Heavenly Father and His Son. I finally believe I have found a place to call home. It feels right, where nothing before ever has.

@@reinabeaux Oh wow!! Your story is so cool and awe inspiring! It's a miracle that you remember being able to talk to God and Jesus Christ! To my knowledge, we know of evidence of something like this from the scriptures but we really only believe mostly that toddlers and infants converse with Beings from the other side of the veil. Your story is a serious inspiration, thank you so much!! :) By the way, do you know about "Uplift Study Group" on facebook? Someone can be from any faith, but can't tear down someone else's faith. The purpose of the group is to uplift others, not just members of the Church. Leo Wineagar is one of the monitors of the group and he has done a video with 3 Mormons before(about 2 months ago now). I grew up in the Church. My Dad's parents were converts and branches of my Mom's side of the family have been members since the early 1830s. I went on a Mission, came home, quickly went inactive, was technically atheist for about 5 years and anti-Christian for part of that, then came back to Church into full activity. The first time I paid an honest tithe in YEARS was literally the day I met my wife(I met her AFTER). We were married/sealed in the Temple and have 2 amazing boys(2 1/2 and 6 months). 3 months ago I was in the process of falling away again, even though I still believed the Church was true. I wanted to stay, but didn't see how. I did desire to give it time though. Talked with my wife and our Bishop about it. I don't know how it happened or why, but I had a Spiritual Awakening starting almost 2 months ago. I love our Savior and His gospel. Before, I never honestly could have claimed that. Not really anyway. I'm not sure that people who say that they "have found Jesus" really know what that means. To me, it means to Love God with all your heart, might, mind, and strength, and to love thy neighbor as thyself. It's striving to be a Christian in the truest sense of the word. I wasn't perfect in the past though, and I am not now. But our Savior has literally changed me. Again, I don't know how or why. I definitely didn't ask for it, and I don't' believe I was "worthy" of it either. Absolutely zero desire to go back to where I was though. :)

So years ago i had an experience with mormon missionaries. I was at the time an observant jew and had forgotten to turn the timer on for the lights (basement apartment so really couldn't just open the drapes). While I'm trying to figure out what to do they knocked on my door. So within the intricacies of Jewish law you can't ask a jew to break a commandment even if they are not observant, and you can't directly ask a non-jew to do something that you are forbidden to do, so here's the probably weirdest conversation they had ever had; Me "are you Jewish? " Them "no" Me "is your mother Jewish? " Them "no...." (at this point one of them seemed to kind of get the idea) Me "is her mother Jewish? " Them "no......." Me "awful dark in here don't you think? " (while looking at the lightswitch) They were actually looking for my neighbors apartment. Never saw them again but they totally helped me out that day.

Yes, you can talk with sister missionaries out on the street. However, sisters if they meet with a single male investigator for lessons, they would need to either meet in a public place, or have perhaps a married couple from the church go with them. Elders also must be careful meeting with a single female investigator. I think they have to get a third person, usually a married male member from the church to go with them to make it 3.

I want them to do a video on listening to rock and heavy metal/Christian rock and metal.

Latter-Day Saints might listen to rock songs at a dance/social gathering or something, but definitely not at church or religious gathering. The lyrics or sounds of the music are factors too. Most members would try to avoid music that would chase away the spirit. This statement is just my personal opinion, but I don't feel heavy metal or rap has any benefit at all to the soul, even if the lyrics are called "Christian."

KevlarX2 It is true that many Christian protester groups accused Heavy Metal as "Satanic"(Even though that's complete bull**** since most Metal bands are actually anti-evil), but that's really the main reason why Christian Metal was invented; because people who loved music for music realized that there was untapped potential to put Christian elements in the so-called "evil" genre of Metal, like the same way Christian Rock was invented to stand against the whole "Rock And Roll is the Devil's music" baloney.

Besides the "Why Mormons LOVE Star Wars" video, they should also do other religious-related fantasy franchises such as J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-Earth Mythology(The Hobbit, The Lord Of The Rings, The Silmarillion,etc), J.K. Rowling' Harry Potter series, and of course George R. R. Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire series.

The Mormon missionaries who come to your door are very sincere, they have a strong testimony and faith in Joseph Smith and his 'restored gospel'and the authority of his church. They will ask you to read the BOM and ask God if it is indeed true. If you agree, you have already fallen into the Mormon trap of getting you to start thinking that the Holy Bible MAY possibly have been corrupted,and that important truths MAY have been taken out of it, and that the BOM MIGHT just contain that lost truth and a life changing message for you, as Joseph Smith claimed. Note that the BOM in its pages, has very few of the teachings and doctrines that set Mormonism so very far apart from Biblical Christianity. Joseph Smith wrote the book of Mormon to be seemingly reminiscent of the King James bible itself, borrowing from it many names verses and even whole chapters, while deliberately writing it in the style of the KJ Bible. Simple put, you will never hear Christians speak about Joseph Smith, or his writings doctrines and practices, they are utterly foreign to their faith. They will NEVER mention Temples or temple works, baptisms for the dead, exaltation to Godhood, eternal progression, etc. Mormons are taught to believe that the Bible is unreliable, this distrust is actually enshrined in their 8th Article of faith, it's that important to them. You may have noticed that the Bible was not mentioned once in this video, that's because Mormonism is based solely on one man's testimony, teachings, and practices. If you heed and believe the message of those missionaries you will simply become a Mormon, but not a Bible believing Christian. Those missionaries may be sincere, smart, and super friendly, but they are deceived about their faith. Read the Bible, trust it as millions of Christians have for 2,000 years, trust the Jesus Christ of the Bible and the everlasting gospel, that Joseph Smith rejected. Kind regards to all especially Mormons.

Geoff Noyes Thanks for your comment and concern :) We truly find significant value in the different religious beliefs represented in the comment section of our videos. We also like to read the different perspectives about this gospel we love so much. I understand that it's difficult for many christians to accept our belief that the Bible, though hundreds of translations, may contain some wording that isn't quite as it should have been. However, you won't find a single stalwart member of the Restored Church of Jesus Christ (Mormon Church) who doesn't fervently believe in the doctrine and teachings found in the Bible. We revere the Holy Bible as one of the most important books that has ever been compiled. We believe, without a doubt, that it was divinely inspired by God and that it should be read MUCH more frequently than it is currently read. The doctrines found in the Bible are precious and eternal. We adhere to the Bible as best we can in our Church. So I must respectfully disagree that if you become a member of this Church, you will not be a Bible believing Christian. You still will. I ADORE the Bible more than I ever thought possible, as my study of the Book of Mormon has increased. The two books are such powerful companions for one another. All respect to you and the truth you're hoping to teach, Geoff Noyes :) Have a fabulous weekend.

So much of what you said is wrong. I'm not trying to be mean, but even I, as an investigator of LDS, can see so much misinformation in all you said. You keep insinuating that Mormons are not Christians which is immensely false. The 8th Article of Faith states, "We believe the Bible to be the word of God", how does that come across as being seen as unreliable? I have not been taught, nor have I read anything in my own investigating, that lead me to think Mormons distrust the Bible's accuracy. And no, Mormonism is not based on one man's testimony and teachings. That is why they believe in modern day prophets and the faith is ever evolving because our earthly lives are evolving. There are prophets all throughout the Bible. Why would there suddenly stop being prophets? Joseph Smith did not reject the Bible. And the Jesus Christ that Mormon's believe in and base their entire religion on IS the Jesus Christ of the Bible. And honestly, they are the most Christ like people in general that I have ever met. That is why I decided to investigate the Church. I have prayed, for years, to find a church home. A place that felt like Christ was the true focus and inspiration. I have found that in The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. Non Mormon Christians believe that we get to Heaven through believing and accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior. Mormons believe the same thing. So, if you believe in that, you should know that Mormon's aren't damning their souls to Hell by believing in additional scripture and modern prophets.

Wow! Bluebonnet Bigfoot. You may not be a member, but I can see you have a strong testimony of the Lord, and a great heart. Good luck to you in your investigating the church, and further building your testimony. If you have any questions just ask these wonderful hosts here on this show. If they can't get to you, maybe I or some of the other commenters here can answer them.

Geoff Noyes Kind regards huh? Maybe they didn't mention the Bible because this video was about what it's like meeting missionaries, not about a Bible subject. The last few videos I literally answered question, after question, after question people wanted me to answer about Bible subjects. Nobody is deceived in our faith. We are the only faith that tells people to obtain a testimony for themselves, and not just take our word for it. We ask everyone to study it, ponder it, and pray about everything, and to seek answers from God. The only faith that tells people to seek confirmation of those answers by the Holy Ghost which is what Christ ask us to do. The only faith that even believes in the "power" of the Holy Ghost. How about creating a channel about your faith and try your methods there? I'm sure people will just flock to hear your Bible thumping anti views. Oh, and kind regards.
