It was a Queen song written as an Elvis Tribute. I was dragged to a DY concert by an ex. I was blown away by how great of a guitarist Dwight was. He was doing stuff that would have impressed EVH.

Dwight Yoakam is such a pro. His musical sense and talent is incredible. One of the most consistent artists ever to take the stage. Crazy Little Thing Called Love is a Queen original; this is a fantastic country spin on it.

There’s a rockabilly influence but The Bakersfield Sound sub genre of Country music is where Dwight got most of his influences, particularly Buck Owens, Tommy Collins, Red Simpson, Wyn Stewart. In his initial rise to fame he name dropped Buck Owens so often you’d think he was being paid to do so, lol. That’s how Dwight and Buck came to do “Streets Of Bakersfield”, it was originally a tv performance that was supposed to be Buck and Merle Haggard (a later era Bakersfield guy). Merle couldn’t make it but Buck knew that young man that keeps mentioning his name would do it.
@HollerMa71

@@johngage856 I grew up watching "Hee-Haw" starring Buck Owens. It wasn't until years later that I even found out that he did actual music of his own. Same thing with Mac Davis when he had his own show! Lol

Dwight was famous early on for reviving the Bakersfield Sound (basically super-basic, roughed-up, rambunctious working-class music, vs the supersmooth Nashville sound), and kicking it up a couple of levels with speed and hard rhythms out of punk rock, and, of course, a whole lot of sex appeal. I saw him live once, and he and the band put on a really staggeringly fun and rowdy show.

I met Dwight in 2004 when he played at the Pozo Saloon in Santa Margarita. CA. I drove for a limo company, and that day I drove his band to the show (that’s a whole different story in and of itself). After the show, the band introduced me to Dwight, and he was a very cool guy, a total gentleman. Guy is a legend.

Dwight is my favorite Country Singer, if you like this check out 1,000 Miles, Long White Cadillac, Things Change, Fast as You, Ain't that lonely yet, Little Sister, Suspicous Minds, Guitars, Cadillacs, Streets of Bakersfield. He has a lot of Great songs but these are some of the Better ones IMO. He had a lot of respect for the King Elvis and did a couple of his songs.

I've only seen Dwight once in concert about 5-7 years ago by now in AZ. He came out on stage and said he had a bit of a "raspy voice right now" and to try to "bear with me". He also came out limping! Never did hear why. He gave one of the best concerts I have been to. The rasp made his voice even better at least to me if that was possible. The review in the paper the next day went on about WHY he was raspy. Basically it was monsoon season in AZ and he and his entire crew came down with awful allergies/cold like symptoms due to the dusty, muggy weather and whatnot. They probably could have easily canceled the concert (it wouldn't have affected his bottom line at all, as it was being held in a smaller, more intimate venue) at a casino. He and his whole team STILL went on because he didn't want to let anyone down. And all he said during the concert was "sorry I have a little rasp". That's what a trouper he was. And in the comment section of the paper, there were still whiners who were saying his voice wasn't the same, wah, wah, wah. I couldn't believe it. Again, he could have canceled and he still went on and gave his all and blew us away (well most of us at least)! Can't please them all.

Dwight's style of music isnt the normal Nashville Sound. It's referred to as the Bakersfield Sound. Named after Bakersfield California, it started in the 1950's and was influenced by rock n roll and electric instruments while Nashville was still producing traditional country. Country music has a lot of sub-genres that are very different than what comes out of Nashville.
