Elvis had to fight to get this included in the TV special. Finally, he said "no Gospel segment, no integrated singers and dancers, no show".

During the first part of the concert they were on stage jamming away and reminiscing about days gone by. When he walked out onto the stage in that black leather suit it literally took your breath away. Amazing 😍🤩

People ( mostly men, sorry, but true) talked about Elvis like that because they were so jealous of him, his fame, talent, his voice, his affect on women and his decency. If someone has too much, tear them down to make yourself feel better. Everyone who was jealous loved when he put on weight because they loved that he no longer was so perfect. He was always perfect to people who loved him. The impersonators have always made him look bad, because they are NOTHING like him. Thank you for this wonderful reaction. I admire you so much for seeing the light.❤️❤️❤️

I’m a 77 yr old white lady that was in high school as Elvis began singing. He was cool all the time of his life! He always had black women that were his back up singers. He had to fight for them to sing with him when he was going to perform in Houston Texas n the Astrodome. He told the managers he would not perform, unless his black singers came with him! He was only overweight for about the last year of his life. People that criticize him are jealous of his phenomenal ability! But he was generous, kind, and really before his time in so many ways! He made more religious albums than anyone ever has! That was his favorite genre and had to fight for it to be produced often! I love the guy even more today than I did back in the 60s

He was fat/bloated for less than a year of his life. Didn’t stop him from being generous to others less fortunate and from singing beautifully till that last concert about 6 weeks before he died.

And a close look at his last performances make it look much more like he had edema, or swelling/bloating due to the heart disease that took his life and early deaths were common on that side of his family, often in their 40s, like Elvis. Drs. still enabled/encouraged drug abuse, but it didn't appear to be a primary cause of death.

I said before on previous youtube videos Elvis impersonators in general did Elvis no favours. Most of them portrayed him between 74-77 when he gained weight. Most of the younger generation have never witnessed his greatness and as you said were influenced wrongly by poor impersonators. For most of his life he was a handsome unbelievable performer that nobody could get near in vocal and looks terms. No one could impersonate him in his prime because he was untouchable and could not be replicated. I was introduced to Elvis as a 6 year old and he became a hero. Over 60 years later havent seen anyone come close, sure there have been good singers but Elvis was light years ahead. Thank god for RU-vid

It's beyond exciting to see you being willing to get beyond the Elvis rumors and to discover him and his immense talent. Unfortunately, he had to deal with criticism, rumors, and death threats throughout his whole career. Even decades after his passing, it's sad to see how many people disparage his name without doing the research or even listening to any of his music.

Elvis had to do what his manager wanted. Maybe this gospel music, which Elvis wanted, was what his beautiful soul wanted sooo badly. Maybe I was really enjoying Elvis's soul as he was being forced to appear to be someone he wasn't. Did Elvis make more money😮being someone he wasn't??? Elvis could have become a religious singer like the righteous bros. Did.the manager never think of that?? My question here is, could the world have benefitted more from 😅Elvis singing religious music rather than regular music. Something to think about!!! God be with us, we need it today 😅😂

Elvis diversity is what made him unique. His only Grammy’s were for his gospel albums. That probably gave a lot of joy because that was his true love but he had so much more to give. His talent was so natural and effortlessly but he really worked hard and packed a huge legacy in his short career.

I was around then and I am pissed at all the impersonators. They cannot do any Elvis as far as I am concerned and the only reason they landed on the later Elvis is simply because the jumpsuits are so recognizable. Bill Cosby was the first black actor to have the staring role in an American television series. 'I Spy' ran from 1965 to 68. Black folks weren't widely seen on television during this period in American history. 'Sometimes I feel Like a Motherless Child' is a negro spiritual from the 19th century. It's about the cry of a child being taken from their Mother and sold into slavery. Absolutely insane that this song, and the black dancer who opened this part of the show got past network censors. Only Elvis could have pulled this off... no one else had the influence and popularity that he possessed. This was truly a history making performance, and all done with the Blossoms by his side. Crazy that people like Chuck D still refer to him as a racist.

Hi CVTECK1, this is only the 4th time I've commented on an Elvis reaction video. I have been an Elvis fan since 1970 and there isn't much I don't know about his career and legacy. I was compelled once again to respond, when someone new has discovered the legend Elvis Presley. You asked how can someone turn Elvis into something he was not, because he was so much more. How can that be done... through lies , envy, jealousy, racism, stupidity, history revisionists and an inferiority complex which is deep within their existence. The individuals who make these negative comments about Elvis do so out of the above reasons mention. Their negativity makes them show who they are inside and out.

Love watching when people discover the real Elvis. His first love was Gospel music and he did it so well. What other rock star would do a gospel number in his special. He also incorporated gospel in his Vegas concert. Darlene Love is one of the backup singers. She sang with the Blossoms. During off time she and Elvis would sing gospel together. Only Elvis❤ Thanks for your heartfelt reaction.

I truly admire you for researching Elvis and seeing the real Elvis! Yes in 1977 he was overweight and sooo tired of Vegas and his health was in decline! He still gave his fans every ounce of his talent! For him to be portrayed as that is so infuriating to those of us true Elvis fans that know the truth! Elvis won all his Grammy awards for his gospel music! Gospel was his favorite music to sing! After his Vegas shows he would sing gospel music for hours and hours! If you haven't watch Elvis performance of "How Great Thou Art" live in 1972 please react to it! Thank you

Elvis started having a lot of health issues in the 70s. There are his friends that stated in the early and later 70s, when he was performing on stage, so many people were taking pictures of him, (and back then you had to use a flash camera to get a good pic), that by the time the concert was over, he had to be led off stage because he was so blinded from the flashes, he couldn't see for several hours afterward. He had glaucoma really bad. When I read this, it just broke my heart. He gave all he had for his fans.

Jerry Schilling, one of Elvis mafia and friends had left to manage The Beach Boys and hadn’t seen Elvis the last yr before he passed in Aug., 1977. They aired the last performances shows from June 1977, in Oct 1977. Jerry was shocked by Elvis appearance at how bad he looked. He called Tom Parker, Elvis manager and said how could you let him appear like that. Parker replied he received a lucrative deal for the TV deal. Only fans who attended the concerts, were aware of how bad Elvis looked. When my ex hubby and I watched on TV we were so shocked and saddened by how bad Elvis looked. Elvis was a 1 of a kind talent, he changed music and culture, was handsome, charismatic and knew how to sing and perform all kinds of music. No one who ever worked with him, including his 31 movies, had a bad thing to say about him. I was 11 in 1956, when he recorded Heartbreak Hotel and I loved it.

Thank you for shining this light as to who and what Elvis TRULY is. This is your hour of enlightenment and bask in it!! Thanks for getting the real essence of Elvis being the artist and the person as he was in his own skin. When you really dig deep and find out what his spiritual relationship was, and how it shaped his views on himself, the black community that he grew up in and around, and humanity as a whole as we are all one and the same in the eyes of Elvis and God, and how his love of Gospel and R&B shaped his music tastes and talent, that's when you get to the root and greatness of his soul and passion of the man known as "The King Of Rock & Roll".

Hoochie Coo dancers were a little sinful, a little risque. The 68 special was his return to his musical roots after 8 years of making movies. It was a triumph for Elvis. I would suggest you watch the 1970 live version of his number 1 hit from 1969 called "Suspicious Minds" 1970 Elvis had been back to live performances after a long lay off-he was in the best shape of his life and his performances were on fire. From 1969 till his death in1977 Elvis sold out every show he did in Vegas and every concert tour that he did.

In the 70s Elvis performed over a thousand concerts; all of them sold out. He had several platinum and gold singles and albums. Presley also had two documentaries made about his performances and a concert broadcasted by satellite to most places in the world simultaneously; a first in 73. The outward signs of his health issues became noticeable only around 74. At that point the quality of his performances became inconsistent ; especially 76 - 77. Unfortunately some have stereotyped this small part to inaccurately characterize the rest of that otherwise successful time of his career. The 68 Comeback Special was Elvis's reintroduction to live performances. A great part of that you could use is his stand up 3 song medley performance of some of his most acclaimed songs.

Yup, this was live on TV, of course TV as it was 55 years ago. Elvis got sick in 1977 and was trying to perform even then and sadly, that's how he got remembered by some people. His career was way more than that. Elvis was a guy who could sing in one take and get it right on, not many people could do that. This number is kind of Churchy, which is where Elvis was personally rooted from his youth, the Gospel thing. This number is kind of like a Broadway production, if you've ever been to Broadway shows they are a lot like this. Elvis loved Gospel so much he'd stay up all night with his band hanging around the piano singing until dawn.

This special was aired on TV, Dezember 1968. Steve Binder, the producer, wanted a show that just shows Elvis's talents and wanted no guest stars or a host, like other shows did. ( Frank Sinatra did a nearly 60 minutes welcome home show in 1960 for him and Elvis was in there for about 6 minutes. Great 6 minutes by the way.) If i remember right the Hochie Koo is an erotik dance. Yes, his speaking voice is as beautiful as his singing style. He always had black and white people around him, in his live, his movies, the music he loved, the generous things he did... Loved your reaction very much! Since you seem truly interested to know more about Elvis, I'm going to throw a bunch of things your way: Elvis Presley - Music Evolution (1954-1977) (7:32) Elvis Presley - Live TV Phone Interview (1956) (8:39) Elvis Presley - The King of kindness (6:31) Elvis: Return to Tupelo (54:02) This tells the story of his childhood from birth through the beginning of his career. Bruno Kirby Story: 'The Magic of Elvis Presley' (4:32) Elvis Presley - Gospel Medley (On Tour) (3:51) Gospel was Elvis' favorite genre of music. He included a gospel song or two in each of his concerts. After a show he would often sing gospel songs with his musicians until dawn. This is a snall part of one of those informal sessions. Can't wait to see your next Elvis reaction! Just remember to always expect the unexpected when it comes to Elvis.

Elvis fought to get this into the show with both Black and White Dancers and Singers. Notice Elvis does everything in 1 take. No voice alteration electronically.. No Auto Tune. None of that crap. I watched this special when I was 10. All of my family was mesmerized. You should watch the bordello number from the same special. It was removed by the censors when it was first aired. It was included in second airing. The first movie you watch should be King Creole. It is the best out of the 31. It was released in 1958. It was filmed in black and white. (Though a movie could be filmed in color then, most were still in black and white. Color was more expensive.) ) It has well known actors in it. The plot is mature for an Elvis film. I would say 90% of fans rate it his #1 movie. Movies to skip: Kissin Cousins, Stay Away Joe, Harum Scarum.

I was 3 when I heard Elvis on the radio and loved his voice first. Never even saw what he looked like til we got a tv when I was 10. Loved the films because I was the age of the kids in his films and wished I was them !! He died the day I started work when I was 20 and it was the saddest news that many people found unbelievable. America ran out of flowers so many were sent to Graceland! Europe mourned because now he’d never ever tour to sing to us. Thank you so much for your honest and appreciative reaction that will make more people see the phenomenal man for who he really was. Not least the humanitarian who gave away most of his fortune to charities, sick people, people down on their luck and to his fans, for supporting him ( plus he never took tax deductions because he said that meant he wasn’t truly giving!). He once said that he’d never be able to earn enough money to forget what it was like to be dirt poor. Enjoy your adventure now, with so much to listen to. 👌💕🕺

First, let me say, any person who mocked Elvis was just plain jealous of his talent. Second, Elvis was not fat, after his .Elvis had serious medical issues. In concerts during the late 70s his body was literally shutting down. He was bloated, not from being fat but because his body was shutting down. Watch his concert in 1977, literally weeks before his death. He sat down at the piano played and sang Unchained Melody. You could see how sick he was, but his voice was absolutely amazing. Watch that video 1977, Elvis singing Unchained Melody, and you'll see what I mean. There never was or ever will be another singer/entertainer like him. He was also generous, humble, and spiritual. He is and will be the only King this country has or will ever have. Long Live The King. ❤️❤️

Then 70’s Elvis omg he’s a God he’s in Vegas the most gorgeous man on the planet he sells Vegas out time and time again. His voice is like the best silk in the world and he melts your soul. I don’t where this about “ fat” Elvis is coming from Elvis had a combination he was sick and bloated from health issues and years of improper prescription drug use. He had a twisted colon, high blood pressure, enlarged heart, glaucoma, and other health problems plus he was only really ill from 76-77. Not an excuse just an explanation he was not perfect but his time on earth he gave 1000%. Elvis was a wonderful humanitarian and the best entertainer artist this world will ever see. His wardrobe was signature and he was a fashion icon Elvis wore the sport coat with no shirt underneath first lol of course he looked gorgeous. Some of these people have no business wearing that btw 🤣. TCB⚡️

It was amazing. Elvis comeback was amazing. Black performers and dancers, gospel was what Elvis was brought up on. He grew up dirt poor and in black neighbourhoods. This was so innovative. Elvis was singing what he loved. He was deeply spiritual.

Hi, I’m an old Elvis fan since 1960 from Sweden. Elvis is still my absolutey King. Hopefully you also had listening to “If I can dream” if don’t, you have to and you’re gonna love it to. I think it’s in the same concert. I love it 🎶❤️ Best regards from Katarina in Sweden.

Elvis, when he was at his best, had a 3 to 4 octave range. Listen to the song, it's now or never, and listen closely at the end when he hits that high note. The people who were in his band said that he was able to keep a perfect beat, timing and pitch every time. He had back up singers called the sweet inspirations. One of the singers was the mother of Whitney Houston. His base singer was in the Guinness world book of records for having the lowest voice. His name was JD somner. He could go two keys lower than a piano. I was him 3 times in concert and even though he was starting to get sick and over weight gave the best concerts every time.

One member of the stamps quartet said that, even though Elvis never took singing lessons his voice was so good that he could have sang opera if he had wanted to. So awesome, you have no idea how great he was. I don't think he knew how great he really was.

Elvis recorded over 220 Gospel songs that I listen to when I paint. One of his backup singers was Cissy Houston, Whitney’s Mother. I saw this on TV when I was 14. Listen to If I Can Dream at this concert. He recorded to honour MLK and Bobby Kennedy, both good friends. His manager told him no and Elvis ignored him. His manager worked him to death. Elvis only sang this song twice in public because it made him emotional. He got picked on for having a black cook. They never checked to see that to him she was family. She was on a big wage and Elvis bought her a new house and a new car because she would go home in the dark. The world needed that man longer. Thank you. When Elvis was fat and I do not body judge he was very sick. The Elvis I loved was young and sweet. He was the only white man in the 50’s in the South standing up for equality. They Called him white N word and they smashed his records. He was raised in a black Ghetto in Tupelo Mississippi and he never saw his friends as a different colour. He did not back down and if anyone says he ever said anything racist is a liar, he didn’t have it in him. He held only one above his Mother and that was Jesus. He found his Baptist Church when he was small. The music took him there and he didn’t know he was the only white one there. I am 70 and I know who he was. Thank you for really seeing him. He hated the movies they made him make.

Elvis insisted on putting a gospel song in the 68 comeback special. The stage where he is surrounded by his fans is display at the Graceland Elvis museum. At 78yrs. I visited Graceland and experienced Elvis as he lived and died in his beloved home. Great experience.

The martial arts segment is overlooked so often, IMO, in the 68 comeback special. It led to an opening of a segment of Americans being opened to such. Which ultimately led to so much more. Elvis was, is, and will always be.... An opener. A binder. And a blessing. This guy.... well... I was there as a kid at the beginning. I saw the 68 special when 1st broadcast. What a Uniter. What a Binder. What a Consolidator Elvis was, and is to this day. I can only imagine the death threats he received early in his career, transitioning from Sun records to RCA.... Precious Lord Hold my hand..... One for you my friend. Follow That Dream... a 1962 movie.... a comedic take.... Great. Right there with Andy Griffith in a 1958 film, "No Time For Sergeants," IMO. Must see. Great. You WILL smile. My guess is... that if you take the time to watch BOTH films.... you will not be sorry. At all. Enjoy.

Nice Elvis reaction..keep m coming ... You mention Cissy ,but Cissy (Houston, mother of Withney) only sung background for the very first Las Vegas engagement in August 1969. In this choir we actually have Darlene Love, also a big name. This was actually meant as a Christmas special, but Elvis and his producer knew it was the first and best chance to revive his musical career. So it became a allround Elvis Comeback special. Every song from this special is a masterpiece and part of music history.

The «fat Elvis-in Vegas»- standard joke is ridiculous. Yes, he was a little heavier in his last couple of seasons, but far from the tabloid bullshit rammed down people throats. During 637 shows he looked fantastic in about 98% of them. He was one of the Top concert draws in USA till the day he died. He was to embark on a completely sold-out tour the day he died, people lining up in front of the box-office a week before sales opened.

You make my day! You are totally getting Elvis now. I’ve always been annoyed by the overweight, oversized side burned insults to Elvis. He was so much more that what they portray. He never has been and never will be matched! His films pre-1960 are the best. When he left the army, his manager signed him up to quick buck movies… Elvis hated doing them. He wanted to be a serious actor and when you see his first few movies, you will see he did have that potential. Although there is the odd dramatisation. In the ‘Elvis’ movie with Austin Butler, it gives a very good synopsis of his life, struggles, pressures put on him, the lies he was too… for such a wonderful and giving man, his life story would make you cry

Thank you for you giving Elvis a real reaction and looking deeper. Yes the man had his own issues but who don’t. There is so much more of him as an entertainer. Elvis lived and breathed music. Brought up in the low part of town and grew a huge humanitarian. He loved Church, Gospel, Country, Blues and Rock & Roll. People forget that the Musical times changed from his early days when he went in the Army. Everyone experimented with sound because he was able to breakthrough the barriers. At first his sound was thought of as Black…..Those were his roots and sound. They call him a copy cat because he didn’t write his own songs. Songs were written and pitched to him and he recorded other’s songs and it was a honor back in those days to have Elvis record your song. So much more to say, like how much thought he put into his performances and how well he took care if his huge band and back up singers. There is so much twisted bunk out there. A deep look into Elvis is what you did and I applaud you and Thank You from one Music lover to another.

You are so amazing I wish more people were like you . This is why Elvis fans are so defensive, because jealous people in the industry could not compete with him. He made 31 movies, he is know in every part of the world for gospel as as he is for rock. He won 3 Grammy for gospel, he started out in gospel. I wish you could react to "Elvis Presley and the Black Community" you will understand. I lived it, and it makes me sad. I am 80 and you are right he changed culture and music.
