Love you finding Elvis ! He was remarkable. As John Lennon said, "Before Elvis, there was nothing"
@kennethcurtis1856
@kennethcurtis1856 Год назад
Actually, there was. Many of Elvis' songs were covers of old 20s, 30s, and 40s hits. Are you lonesome Tonight, witten 1926 Unchained Melody, written fo the 1955 movie "Unchained" Rags to Riches, 1953 Hurt, Timi Yuro 1961 Just a few of big hit songs Elvis took to znother level, but Lennon was wrong with his quote. Without many of these songs and the R&B/blues songs, would Elvis had been Elvis?
@monasrum4321
@monasrum4321 Год назад
@@kennethcurtis1856Yes you're right..most of us know this. Elvis was not a songwriter, he was a singer and performer with a great musical talent. Some of the songs had existed a long time. "Hound dog" was also a cover. He however, was the one who made them worldwide hits with his rendition of them. He was the first worldwide superstar. He was something completely new. Many people say "Elvis was larger than life". This is why Lennon said this. I know of only one artist of to day that can cover a song and make it her own like Elvis did. Her name is Angelina Jordan, age 17, and she was simply born to sing, just like Elvis. She did a cover of "Suspisious minds" to honour Elvis, and it is just mesmerizing.
@dmc0343
@dmc0343 Год назад
People played sports sing etc , always have have done , golf was there before tiger , but he took it to another level , Micheal Jordon… too many to name … I think that was what Lennon meant . He was different on a different level on everything , voice , looks , broke boundary’s , was singing about problem back then to bring all races together , fought for equal rights , half his songs he was trying to fix the world we still have the same problems today .

There's been so many bad impersonators of Elvis. You have to experience the "Real" thing to grasp the magnitude of Elvis. I'm 66 and people used to make fun of me for being an Elvis fan. You know the overwhelming amount of disrespect and character assassinating has nothing to do with impersonators . The pound of flesh that these lying insecure hyenas have tried to remove from Elvis' career and reputation has failed miserably but you can see who they are and what they write on YT and these internet biased uninformed revisionist storytellers pop-up but the solid foundation , reputation and critical acclaim of Elvis has stood the test of time no thanks to these so called fans who decided to ignore THOSE who try to tear down this epic performer and pretend the attack on ELVIS is a group of impersonators. LMAO. You know this is a load of garbage and so does this person who has this reaction site. Pretty cowardly. I guess it's time to pretend. It's 3rd grade recess everybody.

I grew up with Elvis. When one of his movies came on we sat down and didn't speak until the commercial then my mom would have us do whatever we needed. He was a very very very special man. If you have never visited Graceland you need to. There is a trophy room with all his accolades and you can FEEL him. All the thank yous from his donations to things to improve kids lives. Its amazing. And when you walk around where the airplane and tour bus are they play on a loop "American Trilogy" and they have a theater playing his funeral procession. You can FEEL him just as strong in death as he was in life. AND I am so happy people are realizing what a HUMANE man he was.

Don't feel guilty. I have been protesting the imitators, impersonators, apers of Elvis for years. So many young people think Elvis was a joke or a clown because of them. I believe most of them do it because it helps them get women. I really can't stand them. It isn't a tribute, it is an insult. Impersonating a famous person used to be a comedy act. It still is. Your reactions are sincere and heartfelt and I love that you are discovering his genius. He is the best. I saw 13 concerts, he was even better in person and also the nicest man I ever met. My family lived next to Graceland and my sister worked for him.

Don’t feel guilty …. People only remember the negatives and the media compound it by depicting Elvis as a caricature of himself. Pricilla Presley knew that Elvis dreamed of performing with a full,80 piece orchestra. In Vegas, there was only room in venues for up to 30 instruments. So ,in 2015, she worked with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, in the Abbey Road studios. They produced a fabulous album of his songs and it went straight to number one, If I Could dream. This was followed by The Wonder of you and actual concerts at the O2 in London with him up on a big screen and the live Orchestra playing. It was as though he really was in the building!! . Love seeing your dawning understanding of the talent and uniqueness that is Elvis. Thank you for keeping him relevant in todays times. Elvis himself was always worried that people would forget about him. He’d be so humble and chuffed that you are a fan. He loved all his fans. 👌💕🕺🙏

I was captured by this guy. I saw his great smile. The music was something I had never heard. You pointed out exactly what happened to me. I connected with him like I had known him all my life. He has a way of making you believe he is taking to just you alone. I am now 68 years old and still the biggest fan ever. NOW, you understand the Obession people have with him. EVERY Elvis fan come for a song or two, He has over 1,300 SONGS! HIS BEST ONES AREN'T EVEN KNOWN BY THE GENERAL PUBLIC ANYMORE!! He has a different sound in each phase of his life. So it really depends on your musical interests that makes one Era resonate with you the most. Then once you read up on Elvis it's an ENTIRE SUBCULTURE of its own!!!! It depends on your intrest outside of music. His homes, his cars (Over 300+), his custom clothes and stage wear (Over 78 Jumpsuits alone from 1969-1977), his Jewelry (Over 1,000+ pieces), His instruments, His Girlfriends (All had music or film careers of their own except 2), his Movies (34), Then concert tours, locations, years and HUNDREDS of recordings from recording ever concert. Once you start reading on this man you will bond with his story and just what an AMAZING person he was. He was NOTHING like rock stars of the 1970s. He was almost a 25yr old good old boy his entire life. He gave away everything he had and everything he had ever earned to friends, charity and ANYONE in need. The BEST most mind blowing part is what an AMAZING PERSON - HUMAN BEING- and these young kids have no clue unless they pic up a book. All his friends and fans from his lifetime are almost all gone.

Don't feel guilty the mainstream media doesn't do him justice, it doesn't help that all these cheap trick impersonators do him abdolutley no justice, his Vegas days were actually great...you gotta watch his live versions from Vegas he'll blow you away! American Trilogy from Hawaii is fire, his look from that is usually copied by impersonators but like I said they do him no justice and other artists have drug him through the mud for ever, they make him a joke like you said but the more you see and hear of him the real Elvis he is no joke! Don't feel bad about connecting to him I feel the same way and I was born in the eighties I grew up listening to him and other oldies I loved the old stuff since I was a kid but since seeing the movie I really started to take a deep dive not just into the sexy singing Elvis I've always loved but into the person he was and still is he changes lives and hearts still after being gone for so long the more you find out even with all his imperfections you fall more and more in love with his heart and soul I feel like he has become these past few months a good friend and big brother and like you I never met him but you know him somehow by his heart and soul he shares with you in his songs, his voice and manner and just personality. I think this world needs more of that and I they get it with Elvis that's okay! The movie I don't think did him justice in a way because they left out his humor and laughter he was quite funny like I said I grew up watching and listening to him but not quite appreciating his depth you need to see how he was with people and just how kind and generous he always was to his fans and people who worked for him... I wish the movie would have shown that and less of the Colonel but on the other hand the Elvis movie did him the greatest justice of bringing people to his music and they are deep diving and seeing more than was in the movie or more than was shown of him in the disgraceful and joke of impressions and jokes made about him through the decades.

You mentioned Elvis & his costumes. I once heard Elvis say that his dress/outfits/costumes evolved over time but one very important purpose of the costume was to make sure fans could identify Elvis on stage, especially fans in the nosebleed section. Elvis really cared that a fan got what they paid for. If you paid to see Elvis but all you could see was a bunch of people on stage & couldn't identify Elvis, you might be dissapointed & he didn't want that. So the costumes were designed to make him"standout" & were created & colored depending on the stage/arena he played Thats one reason he said "capes" soon became a part of the outfit; he would hold the cape open wide as he turned for the audience and get down on one knee, making it a great photo opportunity .....even far off you knew you just saw ELVIS and thats what you paid for & yiu were estatic. Elvis loved & cared for his fans, we loved him back & always will.

I had a very similar emotional experience coming out of the Elvis film last year... something about his story just resonated and led me into a deep dive on his life and career. I went home and watched some of his live performances for the first time and was brought to tears because I felt I had totally misunderstood who he was as an artist and a human being. I don't understand why the Black community has been taught that Elvis was a racist and that he mistreated the Black community. How wrong!! This was a man who was born in one of the worst poverty situations at that time. Grew up around the Black community, attended Black churches and listened to Black music of that time. Just like any young man who is trying to find himself, he took things that influenced him and applied to who he was becoming. So musicly he put all that influenced him together. He created a sound back then that society hadn't fully heard before. Yes he did use Black music as well as country and western, gospel, blues. And Blended into his style.

So happy that you're experiencing this incredible man no matter how long it took ... and I might say to throw the guilt you feel out the window. Elvis, IMO, wouldn't want anyone to feel that way. The heart, soul & love Elvis had for his fellowman was beyond "normal" .. He "turned the other cheek" to many times to count thru his short life...but he never strayed from his passion of music and his equal passion of just wanting to make people happy. He said "I wonder if anyone will remember me"..... here we are decades later and more and more young people are loving what he had to offer. No one like him ... then ....now.....or forever. What you said after the completion of the song was beautiful. What you describe about feeling guilty for not having previously given him a chance or judging him prematurely, if anyone would have understood and forgiven you it would have been him. He sang an amazing song about not judging others until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. Once you really read about him in depth you discover this amazing person. He was a very human person. That’s not dismissing the very real inner conflicts he had but that he was a very real human being who at times stumbled like any of us do in our lives. In my opinion there are so many things that made him so lovable. What you said about the emotional connection is very real because he was real. He wasn’t just “performing”…he was communicating with other people in the way that he knew how. That is one reason why people after all these years still not only listen but CONNECT with him. Continue exploring his recordings and concerts. He will not disappoint you. There was a reason that Bob Dylan wouldn’t talk to anyone for over a week after Elvis died. There are reasons why all these years after his death, he still has millions of fans. There will never be anyone who communicates the DEPTH OF EMOTION through song as Elvis Presley.

I have been an Elvis fan since I was a child and I was made fun of too because all my friends were into The Bee Gees (who are great too), Kenny Loggins, Lionel Richie, etc…although all those artists are talented there has never been anyone like Elvis--he has the range of opera, the soul of R & B, the longing of country, the hope of gospel, the rhythm of the blues, and the drive of rock and roll-Elvis could sing any style of music because his voice literally brought all styles to the table. I would listen to him for hours growing up and I finally got to see him perform in person in 1976-when they played the entrance music and he burst on stage everyone was already crying.🤪 It was just emotional because his voice touches your soul like it was powered by the Holy Spirit.❤

I thought exactly the same as you about Elvis for many years. Then last summer I listened to his songs 'properly' and I fell in love with him . He is the ONLY singer that touched my soul. He has made me cry listening to some of his 'meaningful' songs and made me happy listening to his 'upbeat' songs. There is an emotional connection which is so strong that I cannot explain it. I had the same 'guilty' feeling when I first became a fan. Elvis is truly GOAT ❤

There is around 150 Elvis songs this gpoe, another 250 a level under (still greats), so good Journey. Try listening to "Such a night" from 1960, and "long black limousine" from 1969 too .

Much respect. Your approach to Elvis (moving past your own previous viewpoints of him) to learning more & appreciating him more Is the epitome of open-mindedness. And it's interesting to me that i've seen others say they've had the same awakening when they've started their own deep dive on Elvis. Many say once they start learning more abt EP, then they realize how much they missed out on. I myself always love learning new things about other legends that I didn't know in the past.. as they say it's better to be late to the party then not at all I guess. For me, aside from the man's talent, it's always been the stories of Elvis humanity That I most appreciated. (stuff that much of the media over the years, including many from the elvis world, have somewhat ignored). I know of documented stories where where people were dealing with prejudice treatment and Elvis came around the corner and called out the bigots. Or women being mistreated / disrespected, and they said Elvis walked by and called out the guys that were disrespecting them. Always struck me as a very peculiar thing that these types of positive stories are often left out of the Elvis legacy. Even after all these's still a lot of great elvis stories that i've learned most people don't know. By the way, Great observation you made that Elvis was much more than just Vegas. Even Elvis himself in the 1970s when he was locked under contract to keep doing appearances there, he was known to tell other artists to - " get the hell out of vegas" - Basically he was just offering helpful advice, Because he didn't want to see other artist get stereotyped and locked into long term performances there, like he himself did. One icon, Little Richard, as well as entertainer Cassandra Peterson, both said Elvis gave them each the same advice, When he crossed pass with each of them as they were getting ready to sign contracts in vegas , . - "Get out of this place. Vegas will only make you a piece of property. It's only about the money, but it will try to take your soul. Get out of here and travel abroad. You'll have more peace of mind and fulfillment outside of vegas then working inside of it" This is why elvis him self enjoyed touring around that time and getting out of vegas as much as he could, For that i'm glad he was able to do that. If he was stuck only in Vegas all of those years he would have likely died a lot sooner. Or vegas would have killed him a lot sooner. He was happier traveling around the country playing for different audiences. This d*** being locked in the desert a few months out of every year. I just wish he would have given himself a little more much deserved time off to rest. But is what it is. I'm just thankful he was able to give us what he did. Great reaction in commentary. Enjoyed your reaction.

Elvis chose to sing this song because, according to him, he liked the song. It had nothing to do with his personal life - a recording of him admitting this is out there, found it on here recently so it's available for all. Love him always.....he was and is simply the BEST. RIP, EP ❤

All jokes aside, imagine 50 years after his death there are still thousands of impersonators performing and making a living replicating his look and music. Name one person in the world has this besides Elvis. There isn’t anyone but Elvis. There is something to him and there will never be another to replace him, ever.
