If there was EVER any doubt that they could deliver live or that they were only a “cover band” with limited writing skills…this performance should blow it all to hell!!! Mitch’s rapping and KO’s singing are worth the watch alone. It certainly helps that MTV did a very professional job in the recording and the staging! Thanks bud, for investing over 16 minutes in what I believe is PTX at its very best!
Just like Christmas, hmmm? One other Grammy winner is their Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker Suite ... a song without words by a band without instruments... Insert wicked villain laughter here.
They always said that they did not do choreo, but Scot and Mitch did a lot of it in their Future Friends videos and after Avi left they incorporated more and more dancing. Scott has become a pretty good dancer and posts dace videos on Tick Tock all the time.
Seeing them next month. Can’t wait. Everyone that’s been to a concert says they’re amazing live so I’m hoping I love it too (I’m sure I will) My favorite Matt one is you’re a mean one, Mr Grinch. He sings the whole song.
In the live version, Matt also sings the entire It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year. The studio version has a guest artist singing with him. I recommend the livestream live version uploaded by Miles Reuben. Sadly, those two Christmas songs are the only complete Matt leads, though he does have solos on 40+ songs... something like 15% of them. Matt is in the Evolution of Rihanna and Evolution of Arianna Grande, though, so two of the possibly three (did you see Evolution of Music?) you have left.
Oh and Joyful, Joyful live - I know, another Christmas song 🤷🏻♀️ - is another great one for Matt if you're paying attention... he takes over beatbox for part while Kevin raps and hits a great high note at the end, sadly mostly offscreen.
The Popspring concert series is held in Japan every year (minus lockdowns). PTX has an enormous fan base in Japan, which may have been a reason why they were invited to perform there. PTX has sung several songs in foreign languages, but Japanese is by far the one they've done the most in - a total of 4 either wholly or partially in Japanese. Mitch and Kirstie are (or were) big anime fans when younger, and their costumes here are based on anime characters.
I’m so glad they decided to focus on their originals for this performance. Covers are great, no doubt, but I love seeing this selection of originals. I enjoyed your reaction, thanks. Peace …
And here I am, their live is perfection! Already getting excited for their Christmas tour near me( planning ahead ) I knew this would make you wonder what you've been missing. They never disappoint, imho the absolute kings and queen of a cappella. You're going to join the ranks of us pentaholics yet haha. Thanks for the mid day pick me up, love how the channel is growing. Keep up the good work sir you do it right
Rihanna and Ariana Grande evolutions are amazing! You’ll also see more Kirstie leads and/or stronger solos as you view more recent videos. Her confidence has grown A LOT!
Thank you for noticing the backings to ‘Water’ Fantastic! They hit me when I first heard this song. I have seen them once live. Christmas tour last year. Their Christmas catalog is amazing. They have brought LIFE into Christmas songs for me! I really think you’ll enjoy (and be surprised) when you start down that road. They are AMAZING live! One of my wishes though would be to have discovered them earlier. I would have loved to see them live with Avi! His bass! 😳 I am really enjoying your reactions to PTX. You have such a respect for what they are doing with their voices and their talents! I’m not going to request on this comment. You do what speaks to you! Not one single one will disappoint! ❤️
They are very interactive with audience also. When I saw them in Sept they had the concert center doing 3 part harmonies with them it was amazing. Their shows have evolved so much since this.
1) Cracked - PTX original 2) Can't Sleep Love - PTX original 3) evolution of Michael Jackson 4) Water - PTX original Love all of these but I must say my favorite is *Water* ! How do you sing dripping water?!?!? Leave it to PTX to figure it out! Sooooo much more to discover...loving your journey!
The songs were "Cracked" an original released on Sept 15, 2015; "Can't Sleep Love" another original released on Sept 24, 2015; Evolution of Michael Jackson, released on June 25, 2015; "Water" an original released on Oct 15, 2015.
My absolute favorite song out of this performance is Water, it is sooo good and the water droplet syncs perfectly with Kevin's beatboxing. If you want more Kirstie I suggest 'Be My Eyes' and 'Love Me When I Don't'! So good!
Yes, they way Kirstin and Mitch sing you dont know how is doing something, they blend so well, they are points where most of the people hear a voice and they look at Kirstin and she isnt singing is Mitch, they work very well together, I also love the combination of Scott and Matt or Avi
So many times I hear reactors say, “there’s so much going on that it is almost impossible to unpack”. Kirstie’s song “Water” is a prime example!!! It takes multiple listens to appreciate…from Kirstie’s v😊cals to whatever the hell you call what Mitch was doing to the impressive backdrop to the bass to Scott & KO…they were ALL massively involved!!! One listen is not gonna get it done😂
It cracks me up when I hear new PTX listeners pondering how much is done by studio magic, later to realize just how little they rely on anything but their voices. Btw Kevin's beatboxing is always amazing but that last song here showcases how he can sound like a full drum kit.
It was fun watching this with you. It's one of the few concert videos from that time that was not done by a fan, but was done by MTV, so the sound and visuals are really good. I was at one of their concerts in 2016 and among my friends, the favorite song of the night was Water. Between the lyrics, Kirstie's fantastic lead and the huge backdrop, we were all blown away. And when the water drops hit bottom and Avi did his bass boom, the whole arena shook. I hope you get to see them someday. I'll be seeing them again in September and am really looking forward to it.
Loved your reaction!! I saw them live last year in December, their Christmas tour. They were amazing!! Hope you get the chance to see them live sometime. You won't be disappointed!
Want to check out a few songs that feature individuals? Scott Hoying: Mars, Choir Version (to hear his range you must listen to the choir version, live). PTX: Be My Eyes (Kirsten). Kevin's 5th. Listen to the entire thing. I guarantee your mind will be blown.
Thanks for reacting to this video of awesome live Pentatonix performances. Happy that you liked the video. I look forward to more of your Pentatonix reactions.
They go on tour in the US starting in august. Check out their tour dates and see if you can get tickets. There is nothing like seeing them live. Also I think they have a sale for four tickets (lawn) for $80 till august 1st.
This is my favorite live performance by Pentatonix. Love the live performances from Singapore too with Mitch’s caffeine hyped up self, but the audio for those just can’t compare to this one recorded by MTV. Love them so much!! They could sing the phone book and I’d be there for it! Love your reactions!! ❤
If you want to hear amazing Kirstie riffs and whistle notes. You've got to react to Seasons of Love. She's amazing in this song. Also Lady Gaga's Shallow. 😊👍
The three original songs here are from Pentatonix's first, self-titled originals album from 2015. "Water" is one of my favorites from the album, written by Kevin, Kirstie and songwriter Audra Mae. It never got an official video and the concert videos from back then are bad quality, so this is the best video. This 2016 MTV video was the only good-quality concert video for a long time, though there are good live TV performances going way back. You can find the rest of the PopSpring concert on RU-vid but it's a fan video. These days there are a lot of decent-quality concert video, either captured from professionally filmed pay-per-view streams or by fans with high-quality phone videos.
Evolution of Ariana and of Rhiana. And you should check out Superfruit as well (a Mitch and Scott side project) they do some cool evolutions, but my fav so far is their Nikki Minaj where Mitch raps. It’s awesome stuff and another side rabbit hole! Superfruit started out as the 2of them playing around with a RU-vid channel back when Pentatonix started out and they were roommates. A lot of silly fun dumb stuff but over the years they developed their own music. Worth a check!
There is a song that it seems, no one ever listens to, a cover of a song called 'Sweet Nothings, It is a Calvin Harris/Florence Walsh collab. Kirsty sings lead and the boys just sing back up. I love it.
Superfruit :(young Scott and Mitch). I love the one of them doing a Beyonce mash-up. AMAZING. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SPgoufy8PrE.html The Rihanna mash up is a good one, too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-35o59UA4oBc.html Scott and Mitch no longer make Superfruit videos, but they are worth watching, If you react to any of the many Superfruit videos remember to watch till the very end to see the bloopers on most of them.
