Bohemian Rhapsody is practically a UK national anthem. Its consistently voted most popular song of all time. Their Live Aid set here has been voted best live performance of all time. This was actually the whole performance from Queen on this magical day in 1985. I sat glued to the TV for almost 24 hours as this was televised all over the world as they raised money to stop the hunger in Africa. Each band had only 20 minutes to perform. The stage was divided in to three parts and rotated. So, when one band performed the previous bands instruments was taken off the stage and the next band was rigged on the third. When Queen entered the stage and performed their set - no one wanted to enter after them - They OWNED Wembley that night!

Just subscribed! Love your spirit and reaction! Yes, Queen is a British band, but Freddie was born in Zanzibar, off the coast of East Africa. He is of Asian-Indian descent and of Persian(Iranian) ancestry. His parents were born in Bombay. Before Live Aid, his doctor told Freddie not to sing. He voice problems, but Freddie sang his heart out that day. Queen was spectacular and Brian May, lead guitarist, said it was Freddie’s day. There is a video that includes the end of this performance. It’s a shame this one was incomplete. Please react to Another One Bites the Dust, Montreal 1981 &. I Want to Break Free, Vienna 1984 (Totally unforgettable!)

I make sure to always introduce Queen to my high school students. Everyone (!) asks for it when we play music in the classroom. And the best part is that they're just quiet sitting there enjoying it (and working, hopefully). And everyone knows how different all high school students are from each other.. But in this, they unite. Great reaction videos from you! Love and respect from Sweden.

Freddie had laryngitis the week before this concert and was advised by his doctor to cancel his appearance. Of course he ignored the advice and went on to make rock history. Wembley seats 72,000 for sporting events, so it's anybody's guess how many were there including the people on the field. Two of the songs were shortened since they only had a 20 minutes set and they wanted to include as many of the fan favorites as possible. If you watch more Queen videos you'll notice that Freddie ALWAYS carries the mic & stand around the stage with him. He started doing that at the beginning of his career.

PURE PERFECTION! LIVE AID was a charity event for the horrendous famine in Africa (especially Ethiopia)...thousands upon thousands of people were dying. Loads of bands and individual performers contributed to the event to raise money for the people of Africa - Madonna, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, David Bowie, etc etc. Each performer only had 20 MINUTES for their performance. The Live Aid crew were under strict orders to cut the power if a band went over their 20 minutes. So QUEEN shortened the length of the 6 songs they decided to perform so they would fit into their 20 minute time slot. At the time of LIVE AID, Queen had just returned from their enormous South American tour where they performed in many countries including Brazil where they gave incredible shows in front of more than 250,000 adoring fans each show. So Queen was used to performing in huge stadiums in front of thousands of people. They practiced their shortened versions of their songs for many days the week before the concert. QUEEN WAS MORE THAN READY FOR LIVE AID...and WOW!!! Their performance was impeccable!

EVen more impressive when you know Freddie's doctor strongly advised him not to sing that day as he had a throat infection, but he had to carry on. Also, the tickets were sold before Queen was added to the list of artists, so these folks didn't know Queen was going to be there when they bought the tickets, but they sure got an amazing surprise.

HONEY, I HAVE A REQUEST: SINCE YOU LOVED "SOMEBODY TO LOVE" AT MONTREAL SO MUCH... WOULD YOU PLEASE ALSO REACT TO THE PERFORMANCE AT: MILTON KEYNES BOWL in 1982 (The Montreal performance is awesome, obviously. It gets more reactions because it was filmed in 35 mm... BUT, the Milton Keynes rendition is actually the one that Queen included in their official compilation of Best Live Performances! And, EVERY reactor who has watched both versions, has said they love Milton Keynes even MORE. (One reactor said that "Montreal is the appetizer, Milton Keynes is the MEAL.) The performance is SO PASSIONATE - and FUNNY - and you also get to see the audience involvement that isn't visible at Montreal.) The footage isn't as crystal as Montreal because it's an outdoor nighttime concert... This LINK is to a remastered version, that's better HD than the video on the official channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Snk0Acss4Mo.html YOU REALLY NEED TO SEE IT!

This was historic and the pinnacle of live performances. The is the very best. Now go spend the next three months exploring their catalog of music. As one who was alive during their career, the music means ever more now, it has truly aged well.

Live Aid was a multi-venue benefit concert held on Saturday 13 July 1985, as well as a music-based fundraising initiative. The original event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise further funds for relief of the 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia, a movement that started with the release of the successful charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in December 1984. Billed as the "global jukebox", Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, attended by about 72,000 people, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, attended by 89,484 people. On the same day, concerts inspired by the initiative were held in other countries, such as the Soviet Union, Canada, Japan, Yugoslavia, Austria, Australia, and West Germany. It was one of the largest satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time; an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, in 150 nations, watched the live broadcast, nearly 40 percent of the world population.[3][4] The impact of Live Aid on famine relief has been debated for years. One aid relief worker stated that following the publicity generated by the concert, "humanitarian concern is now at the centre of foreign policy" for Western governments.[5] Geldof has said, "We took an issue that was nowhere on the political agenda and, through the lingua franca of the planet - which is not English but rock 'n' roll - we were able to address the intellectual absurdity and the moral repulsion of people dying of want in a world of surplus."[6] In another interview he stated that Live Aid "created something permanent and self-sustaining" but also asked why Africa is getting poorer.[5] The organisers of Live Aid tried to run aid efforts directly, channelling millions of pounds to NGOs in Ethiopia. It has been alleged that much of this went to the Ethiopian government of Mengistu Haile Mariam - a regime the UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher opposed - and it is also alleged some funds were spent on guns. The BBC stated in 2010 there was no evidence money had been diverted, while the former British Ambassador to Ethiopia, Brian Barder, states, "the diversion of aid related only to the tiny proportion that was supplied by some NGOs to rebel-held areas."
