@@chrisoakley5830 That's thanks to backing tracks being made by people stringing lines of pre-fabricated musical bars or tracks from a DAW or licensed loops. People are hardly even creating memorable melodies these days with their music tracks; it's just generic sounds to "accompany" an over embellished and auto-tune polished, ubiquitous singing style it would seem.

my dad grew up with most of the Manhattans, as a kid I got to go to Sonny Bivins house, the time I went I remember seeing his gold Album on the wall. This song was one of their biggest songs. The group formed in Jersey City NJ, where I was born, the lead singer is Gerald Alston (Henderson NC) He is the nephew of Shirely Alston Reeves, former lead singer of the Shirelles. He is the only surviving member from the original group.

I got to live through the 70s but was only 1 1/2 when it started. What I remember most about then was disco and country music (hee haw). I think the best music was from 1975-85. Side note, I played trumpet for 7 years 6th-12th grades.

Love, love, love this track!!! A #1 Pop and #1 R&B hit in 1976. Sold 2.5M singles. (BTW, perhaps the greatest and most distinctive falsetto/soprano voice of that era belonged to Russell Tompkins of the Stylistics, who had a mess of dynamite hits in the mid-'70s, including "Stoned in Love with You" and "Betcha By Golly Wow." And another stellar cheating song from that time was "Me and Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul.)

Albeit, transistor radios much of the time, but we didn't know any better, we just loved this music. Of course the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Steppenwolf, Cream and a myriad of others were there too. We never got bored with whatever the next song was on the radio. This is the soundtrack that I still love. Britt . . . We ABSOTIVELY had THE best music on the radio in the 70's!!! ❤❤❤ There were so many of these groups that were similar in some ways but had their own swagger. And ever so often, we actually got to see them on TV so we could see that swagger, not just hear their great vocals! It was not possible to see them whenever we wanted to like this so it was always a treat! ❤😊 Oh, and yes, those big collars were all the rage . . . EVERYBODY wore them! And I really mean everybody. 😂😅😂😅 9:44

The lead singer is Gerald Alston and you should check out his solo work. Take Me Where You Want To is an absolute banger by him!

Love your take Britt... This happened to me. I had one affair 14 years into our 30 years of marriage, I regretted it deeply and broke it off. I became a model husband afterward. My wife discovered the affair 16 years later... and divorced me. She is still best friends with the lady. My ex is now with one of my best ex friends.

The Manhattans are great R&B vocal group who started in the 60's. Their 2 biggest hits are "Kiss & Say Goodbye" & "Shining Star". But they had other good songs such as "There's No Me Without You", "Am I Losing You", "Forever By Your Side", "Just The Lonely Talking Again" etc.

At 70, I am thankful to have come up experiencing the music from my era. This, and most of the 60s and 70s music transcended all, without lines being drawn.

Yes, lots of "Falsettos" in the 70s. I'm a 67 year old Hispanic woman who grew up and still living in Southwest Texas. Also, growing up in The 70s was THE BEST!!!! Regardless of being Hispanic, my high school was pretty diverse. We enjoyed, R&B, motown, rock and some country. High school in the 70s was great. My kids grew up listening to my type of music. My daughter grew up to be a band director and she knows the lyrics to most of these songs. We all subscribe to "Spotify" which has all sorts of genres and mine has tons of music from the 60s, 70s and some 80s.

This story to that song really happened. It was 1976 ish, I was 13, he was 15. He was visiting my aunt (by marriage) from another state, was a summer I won’t forget. He gave me this record (45) the day he left. I played it a million times and cried for hours! Unrequited puppy love. Sweet memories.

The messaging is similar to a song years later called "Secret Lovers" by Atlantic Starr in 1985. Another song about adultery lol, but it sounds so good lol.
