First Time Reacting To TIM MCGRAW “DON’T TAKE THE GIRL” 

"The Girl" at the end was the mom -- his Prayer was heard. Indian Outlaw came out shortly before this one.

This was basically Tims first major hit that put him on the road to super stardom. He had another song around this same time called "Indian outlaw". Which I think technically came out first. Also, the song never specifies but, the video clearly shows his girl, running towards them at the end. So clearly Johnny's prayer to God was heard, and she survived. 😊

I always love how country songs always have more than one meaning to them.

She did survive the childbirth...I remember when the song first came out, before the video, nobody knew if the girl lived after giving birth. That was shown in the video. I can remember bawling the first few times hearing this song, thinking he had lost his girl....then I saw the video. Such great story telling! Thanks for the reaction!

This is one of my favorite songs by Tim McGraw, if you ask me at the end of it the girl survived and that was the boy grown up with his own son and the girl grown up

Definitely 90s. I will never forget the first time I heard it. I was sitting in my car at college and I couldn't drive home because I was crying my eyes out. Wonderful song and reaction. The song itself kind of leaves you wondering how things turned out, but I'm glad that the video shows "the girl" right at the end.

This song makes me ball my eyes out 😢😢😢 It was a Hit when I was pregnant with my first born…. It was on every station there was and I loved it…. but this song is literally what happened to me word for word… my daughter was born 8 weeks early and I almost died. my ex husband acted the same way… Love Tim for this song. I interpreted the first part of this song a little differently when I was younger. I thought the boy and girl were friends, which is why she had a fishing pole and wanted to go fishing with them. But the dad was telling his son we can't leave her behind, as in she can't stay at their house alone, they need to take her home. And when he said son I know you don't want her to go I thought that was like the son doesn't want the girl to go home. He wants her to go fishing with him. Someday you'll change your mind, I thought was the Dad's way of saying like you know someday as you get older and things change you'll grow apart, because that's just kind of a common thing that happens in life. Of course that can be difficult to explain to a young kid so it's just easier to say you know someday you'll change your mind. And then the next part singing about Jimmy Tommy and Bo, I thought was like send them home but don't take the girl, because he had a childhood crush on her and wanted her to stay with him. So then I thought like the rest of the song was kind of like in a way, proving his dad wrong that what might have seemed like a silly childhood crush didn't fall apart as they got older, it only got stronger.

This.song came out around the time that my mom passed away. My dad always said that it reminded him of her. That was almost 30 years ago, and I still tear up.

You really should react to Tim's song "Indian Outlaw"... actually any of his songs won't steer you wrong. I think you'll like his duets with his wife Faith Hill... and any of her songs too. Boy, what a rabbit hole to fall into!

Great reaction. This is one of those wonderful life story songs with a very powerful message.

The ending to me is sort of open ended. It never specifies whether his wife lives or not. The video shows a woman or possibly another girl as in the beginning of the video running to them at the end as well. I think this may have been his first huge hit. Although huge hit is his song If You're Reading This. Fair warning it is gut wrenching.

Older Tim McGraw is "Indian Outlaw" he had long hair and this is probably one of the earliest songs. It will make you laugh for sure!

I remember when this song first came out. Who was this "Tim McGraw"? Now we know! Not sure it was technically his first hit but it was the one that definitely catapulted him into superstardom!! It was either '92 or '93, can't remember.
