Yes that Vibrato on Smoke is just Vocal Caviar lol, and the Slides/Descents on Face and Stay are like Smoked Filet Mignon, her voice has a Rich Breathy Fog over Water Quality when she does either, it never gets old.
I think that having Angelina in the driver's seat is symbolic. Her grandmother, a renowned painter and artist, has always inspired Angelina and had taken the lead in helping film and produce Angelina's videos over the years. Now this new video shows that while her grandmother, Mery, is along for the ride, it is Angelina driving.

I love how you characterized Angelina’s hair Mike. A while back I came across an article online ad it was about entertainers who are known for their big hair. The subtitle was “…women whose hair should have its own zipcode*”! 😳 If course, I immediately thought of Angelina. If that article were written today, Angelina’s picture would grace the title page! I was never one for big hair, but Angelina’s is stunningly beautiful. Her big hair was noticeable from the start and it’s become a defining characteristic of her style! 🎶🖤👣

Your statement is spot on (not just on Angelina). (Almost) Every genre in music has its beauty and can inspire us, Jazz, Blues, Opera, Hip Hop, Heavy metal, Instrumental, modern Pop....important is if it makes us feel good. Then it helps us to get through life easier - art is what makes us human.

Her first song from Republic taken from her new album whose release date is expected to be in June. It's beautiful, as we knew it would be. Time to Wake up America, there's a new star in town! This lovely lady from Norway just oozes emotion with her vocals in search of your heart. I hope her new fans will take the time to discover her roots, her family, her humanity, what makes her the treasure she is today. It's only going to get better. Hell, she only just turned 17.
All the vocal elements she has heard by Billie Holiday are on full display here. If you examine Billie's library of songs and take not of all the improvisation she brought to jazz singing, it isn't hard to understand why Angelina would state, 'There would be no Angelina without Billie Holiday'. She has heard all the greatest singers of all time, but she still places Billie on the top of a pedestal that no other singer shares with Ms. Holiday. Billie was a self taught singer who had no mentoring and simply sang the heartfelt songs she would do, strictly from the heart. Part of the pain she expressed in song had to do with the fact her father died when hospitals refused to treat a 'Black' man. Then she came across a poem called 'Strange Fruit' that revealed how Black men were hung, dead on trees like fruit hangs. I can picture Angelina asking her mom or grandma about the lyrics when she was very young? I believe this is part of what brought her so close to understand Billie's singing.

I was a kid in the sixties with two older sisters who had music in the house always. It was a beautifully innocent time, far far from perfect, many social wrongs but the music was fantastic. Your correct, Angelina's sound is timeless and brings back memories of that era and I feel so fortunate to have grown up then.

A great reaction to our barefoot princess. She is the greatest singer on the planet. You mentioned that you would love to see her in person. I had the absolute pleasure of flying twice to Norway on July1 and July 10 to see her concerts (from the first row). I got to spend a little time with Angellina and her mother after both concerts . It was magical. She has no ego at all. She even gave me some flowers that someone had given to her. I even got to hold her hands while we spoke. Most of it was me gushing.

I'm afraid that Angelina has a massive conflict which is resolvable but sadly, will leave her disappointed too. Does she want fame or does she want to continue singing the music she loves? I firmly believe that that is two different things. Her taste for music leans to jazz but there is no chance that she'll be able to sing in that style and still become the diva that she strove to become; the kids of today aren't buying Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holliday. I think she will need to go the Taylor Swift, Adele, etc, way and as sad as that will be for us, I for one will be pulling for her all the way.
@@KieranSaighir I don't think she wants to be number one, it's not in her psychological and moral characteristics, I think her concept of star is much more realistic, perhaps closer to a Nora Jones and that makes her famous, but free to interpret music as she wants, her personality is not one of those who must feel at the center of world attention to feel satisfied.

A 12yr old Angelina walks into a sound studio and there's a bunch of famous singers sitting around chatting, Adele, Rhianna, Erykha etc. They glance at this unknown girl and wonder if she's lost. Then they see she's dragging these big boxes through the door and wonder what she's doing? So they ask her what's in the big boxes? And she says, oh my gosh you're Adele, I'm a huge fan! They ask her again, what's in the boxes, and she says, well this one is my vocal fry, this one is my vibrato, this one's my octave range, this one's my air, this one's my inflection, and that stubborn one I haven't gotten in the door yet is my soul 😊

I really liked hearing you talk about your one world only, when came to music. Then the change in you, after being introduced to Angelina, and others from outside that world. Angelina listens to so much music from many genres, artists and eras. I believe that has a lot to do with that amazing artists is has been over the last 10+ years, is today and will be for many decades to come. What a gift she is. I understand your desire to meet her. My wife and had that opportunity and she she so kind, compassionate and humble. That was the absolute highlight of our trip to Norway last year, where we watched two of her concerts. Embarrassed to say when I first heard this I felt relief. I knew she was going to produce something special but was not sure if it was going to be a hit with everybody. Sure enough she did it again. Everything about this is awesome. Very strong Amy Winehouse vibes.
Cliff if has been much too long since you reacted to Angelina. Hopefully you will react to at least one older performance before Angelina's EP drops in June. Awesome to read so many different interpretations of the lyrics to this beautiful song. I think it is a sign of a great songwriter, when there are so many ways people find meaning in the song. After reading the lyrics, I believe this song is part of the grieving process for Angelina and Mery. We shed millions of tears listening to "Million Miles" but that was the start of the grieving process. Now a few years later, this song shows they are ready to move forward while still remembering their departed loved ones. Love the smiles and little laugh between Angelina and Mery at the end of the video.
I understand why you said you wanted to meet her. I dont usually have any interest in meeting celebrities either, but Angelina is different. I think we all want to tell her how much we love her music, but also how proud we are of her - not just her talent, but her extraordinary humanity.
