"La Légende de Jimmy" is a song from the eponymous rock opera by Michel Berger (French author, composer and performer) and Luc Plamondon (Quebec songwriter), created in 1990 in memory of James Dean
Diane Tell has an undeniably exceptional voice. It is worth noting too that Diane Tell is from Québec and that she has many other very memorable songs to her credit. As others have mentioned songs like, Si j’étais un homme, La Belle du Port, Paradis d’espace, Faire à Nouveau Connaissance, Gilberto and Savoir really stand out. 🍁🇨🇦
I m agree with you, it's not the best song of the Musical that Michel Berger composed. But all the other songs of this requiem-opera are so deep, sad, beautiful. This song was a hit, but not the beautiful one. You have to discover Starmania, and La Legende De Jimmy in their entire. The only two musical show from Berger, two masterpieces that you will fall in love with each one. To listen the Michel Berger spirit, the best way to discover is to take all the songs from France Gall, so many smart hits.
Pas de sous titrages français dommage une très belle chanson que j'adore écouter en bouche Dereck je peu lire mais je prense que votre appréciation de cette magnifique chanson sera de bonnes réacts 😍🙏💖👏👍
Hi dereck, you should react on "sa raison d'être" to Ensemble. It's a charity song for AIDS that brings together several French singers. I'm sure you would love you very much.
Aha this morning I was listening to her song si j étais un homme and I was thinking you d love her if you d check her out, keep at it dude! Her voice is amazing and it gets better with age
Yes totally agree, I deeply think a chorus lacks here, but anyhow the melody is so captivating that the charm still works! But to think that Michel could have composed a bewitching chorus is frustrating.
Beautiful song, melancholy, a little too linear for some indeed. Diane Tell is a very engaging artist, long career but not many big hits. I had the chance to see her on stage a few years ago, just her voice, a piano and her guitar, it was beautiful
this song inevitably reminds me of an other song related to this : Jil Caplan "Natalie Wood". The famous movie "Rebel Without a Cause" ("La fureur de vivre" is the French title) starring both James Dean and Natalie Wood.
I really really love that song because it's melancholic. BUT I love the fact that you express that's not totally your type of songs. It allows me to give credit to your future videos.
I like the song, but I agree with you too.. the lack of "disturbance" in the melody and the rythm make it a bit boring on the end, with only the high "la la la" to catch up for it. Also I never heard the whole musical, I suppose the song should fit perfectly what is its purpose in it, namely make the audience fell the nostalgie of a James Dean groupie who is seeking in another man a replacement for the idol she loved.
Hi Dereck, I suggest you listen to Elsa singing "T'en vas pas" music composed by Musumara (who composed among others for Jeanne Mas) the song is about a teenage girl who asks her father not to leave the home family. (Nice melody of Musumara)
I don't know how the choice is made, but there are indeed some bizarre (French-speaking) choices lately. Looks like Dereck is making his video without listening previously. Although "The Legend of Jimmy" is enjoyable, it's not the type of song he's going to get excited about, as he says in the video. It’s very commendable to have this honesty because he knows that there are a lot of francophones who follow his channel. So let's say better luck next time!
If you liked her voice, you HAVE to check out these two songs.. WAY better.than that post-Starmania thing. "si j'etais un homme" and "Gilberto" REALLY sweet voice.
This song was just release to show the musical ambiance of requiem opera, and even it's quite repetitive, little bit sad... it works ! Thanks to the "Berger touch". So sad that the period in Paris when it came out make The Legend of Jimmy a fail and not because it was not good enough.
It's a great song if you understand the lyrics, there is no sense to listen that if you don't understand it. I already told you, try Michel Polnareff with Lettre à France or M with Machistador. With that you will loose all your bananas.
*ZZzz...* Oops sorry. I snoozed. Not my bad! The song is not bad but so slow that it makes me nod and almost fall asleep after my lunch break. (just kidding.. well almost ;))
Diane Tell, I think it's one of the few songs by her that I know. She never had a great career in France. In Quebec maybe, I don't know... Listen ur uncle ! I suggested u give an appreciation to this lately : Indochine - J'ai demandé à la lune ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LKn7PH-bFQ4.html Les enfoirés - La chanson des restos ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AYk09jdAes4.html Renaud - Mistral gagnant ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_YqzuE-5RE8.html
With the translation of its lyrics in front of you, you should react to Renaud - "La teigne" or "Manu". Although it's almost untranslatable (...popular french street language of the 70's)
Well, I must admit that like you, this song has never speak to me. It's well build, it's clean, too much clean maybe (for me in all case)? La légende de Jimmy wasn't the thing I wanted to see at the time, not more than today :)) All tastes are in the nature and it's well like this.
Je la trouve monotone. La légende de Jimmy, le musical, n'a pas été un succès d'ailleurs. Michel Berger semblait être à la fin d'un cycle, l'album en duo avec France Gall, 2 ans plus tard, était très moyen aussi.
@@stephanietowers2196 hello, Yes, but I do sometimes adore linear songs over the length and I don't have more of a problem with that. If the lyrics of the song or if the voice of the singer are remarkable and compensate for the linearity of the music, for example. But already here, the theme of the song doesn't particularly interest me (It's also very hurtful for the poor "double" of her favorite star that she only loves because he reminds her of this one). I had already not appreciated her previous hit "Si j'étais un homme" (lyrics by her this time) which praised of success, wealth under the guise of romanticism. A song finally quite shocking by its words of a woman so interested in the superficial luxury: "money, jewelry, villa, boat, travel, etc." under the guise of an exacerbated romanticism but in reality totally bogus and which also comes to place herself in moralizing at the end of the song on the behavior of men ...A troubling paradox. So It was therefore not an artist who had particularly convinced me from the start. In more, the voice of Diane Tell is nice but not exceptional. And so, I understand perfectly that for someone who in addition doesn't understand the lyrics, the voice singer don't compensate for this lack of musical "surprise(s)". Bonne fin de semaine Stéphanie. :)
@@LetsChillPage you must be right, the fact that neither her voice or lyrics talk to me certainly explain why I've never really appreciated Diane Tell. Was she ever really popular in France though ? Bonne fin de semaine à toi 😊
If nothings happen more, maybe just because all is in it... Probably because you're not rocked by the meaning of the lyrics + music in the same time. Some french music is really minimalistic, because it means the essentiel is not in the words, not in the music, but with all of that, in the ambiance, the perspective, the own link you can do with yourself, without trouble it with some high note or more exhibition in with orchestra or so on... Its just you and a simple music without jugement or level to hit, talking to your soul... What is going out now you are relax ? Could be nothing too !😄😉
I agree with you. The song is monotonous. To me, Michel Berger was at the end of a cycle. 2 years later, he made a very average album with France Gall, also monotonous and dark. It seems that his relation between him and France Gall was over since a couple of years. This probably impacted his work.
You should try from her : "si j'étais un homme" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2_D84GZztz4.html One of the most emotional song I heard in my life. You should even cry at the end.
