Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another PATREON request with a first time reaction to Melanie "Look What They've Done to My Song." Melanie's unusual vocal tone carries lots of strength. Sort of childlike but heavy intermittently. She performs this song so incredible well. See what I mean now!

I love Melanie. We first heard her in 1970 with Lay Down (Candles in the Rain). Great song, with the Edwin Hawkins Singers adding a Gospel vocal accompaniment. They'd recently had a hit with the old spiritual Oh Happy Day. For something completely different from Melanie, try her hit Brand New Key.

I adore Melanie, and I love this song. Her lyrics are always terrific, and this is no exception. Her backyard concert with Miley Cyrus is wonderful. Melanie was the quintessential hippie chick. I considered her one of my role models when i was in my late teens and early twenties, and I never felt I would be misled by her. She didn't set out to lead anyone, but it was impossible not to want to step on her shadow.

Wonderful Melanie Safka from Eatontown. A Jersey Girl who made it worldwide. She is amazing. The New Seekers recorded a great cover of this, along with a number of her other songs.

Une chanson qui parle aussi aux francophones américains (bien que Mélanie ne soit pas une francophone). C'était une époque, celle des hippies, celle de la contestation... Merci Dereck d'avoir projeté cette vidéo👍

Yes, please do. As a 50 year fan of Melanie, I wish someone would react to Ruby Tuesday. It's brilliant, so much better than the Rolling Stones, who did it first. I loved their rendition, but hers is a giant leap higher.

Why, when you're talking about the folk singers you love, did you feel the need to throw rocks at Dylan? Clown? The Nobel committee didn't think so. All of the professors who teach courses about Dylan don't think so. His countless millions of fans around the world don't think so. Every teacher who brought him into their classroom didn't think so. Peter, Paul, and Mary sang many of his songs, so they didn't think so. Some people don't care for Dylan's singing, but to call him a clown? I have a t-shirt that reads Some of us grew up listening to Bob Dylan The cool ones still do. Enough said. I've wasted too much time on a fool. He's probably over your head.
