You're doing so well. Don't worry about throwing thoughts out there. You seem timid that you might be looking silly but really you aren't at all. Even with the explanations by fans and webtoon etc they've admitted that the BU is not concrete in it's storyline and they love fans interaction with theories. I know the BU has strong dark undertones but it was very comforting for many ARMY while it was slowly rolling out. Everyone theorizing and comparing personal mental health experiences... Was very cathartic to feel seen & validated. It was a very uplifting era even though it's probably hard to imagine as a newer ARMY. I hope you're having fun and it isn't daunting? Just maybe think of it as a fantasy novel that is a series and it takes several books to conclude but the author is still writing books in the series.. Anyways, thanks for jumping into the BU & giving it a try 💜
Oh no, i am used to this. I have a BA in English Lit. 😂😂😂 So if you know anything about English Literature, well…let’s say I had my encounter with the fierce and trauma while studying. 😂💜💜 I love this to be honest.
You might want to look up the god Abraxas. He's mentioned in Demian and both he and the book will be recurring themes in the BU. Loved the likening to Dorian Grey btw. If I remember correctly Dorian can't look at the painting himself or the magic will be broken and it'll all catch up to him (seriously, it's been 30 years since I read it 😅). The theme that looking at/realising your true self is one of the toughest things to do is actually very spot on for Demian as well. I highly recommend Demian btw. It's not like a long novel but it's a great classic. The author Herman Hesse was both an admirer and patient of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung who created the personality model Map Of The Soul which you might remember is also the name of two BTS albums... 💜
@@lorydannagr Got it. Thanks. 💜 I remember where the cursed version of Dorian Gray is from though. It's from The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. 😄 It might be time to re-read the original. 😅
You're doing great! I like what you said that new eyes bring different things. I suspect that was part of the overall plan with the BU; each viewer sees different things, so the story resonates with everyone. When you go back and rewatch the videos after seeing them all, you'll start making more connections. 💜
Your take on Dorian Grey is very interesting cuz even if the Wings era is based on Demian by Hermann Hesse (I advise you to read it, it's short and very good) the two novels have a lots of similarities in topics. We also know that there is a bunch of other art and philosophical references through the era like Nietzsche.
Yoongi is the one in the painting that JK painted himself. The painting is still in HYBE INSIGHT. I hope you watch the BTS Storylines Summary by Xceleste
Again, I love all your observations and your reference to Oscar Wilde's masterpiece Picture of Dorian Gray, Wilde having had an influence on young Hermann Hesse. Hesse's Damian is the corner stone of Wings that lead to Map of the Soul with Jungian theories. My head ignate with connections from the first romantic William Blake to one of the last romantic French poet Charles Baudelaire. We can go has deep as we want and take many pathways depending on our own knowledge and intuition. The authors of the BU did know what they were doing putting a ton of references that guide us on the path we explore. None of what I wrote comes from me, I just ran with you intuition and search for connection and I found some. Great job Lory 👏
The short films don't have the actual songs in them. The lyrics of the songs aren't specifically part of the BU, but they do actually fit in a lot of ways. Like in the video for I Need U, we know that the lyrics originally were supposed to be friend instead of you and that's reflected in the images of the video where the guys are miserable when they're alone and happy when they're all together. You would need to watch lyric videos or live performances of the actual songs, though. Also, the images in Begin refer a lot to Yoongi and the video for I Need U. The piano from the song First Love and Yoongi's short film. The car accident isn't from First Love, but from I Need U, when JK was hit by a car. The painting is Yoongi, the piano is Yoongi, and what happens to Yoongi at the end of the I Need U video? Also, you are definitely coming up with some very interesting theories, like the painting reminding you of Dorian Grey. I'm really looking forward to more of your reactions.
Interesting that you mentioned The picture of Dorian Grey since the book that the WINGS album is based on, Demian, has some similarities in its themes. If you read it, you will pick up on some major details that make reference to Demian throughout this era. Each short film corresponds to their individual solo songs with the same name on the album. Fun fact: Jk painted that himself 💜
It's so interesting to see you explore the BU through the visuals first because I primarily went in first through the written stories. You're picking up wayy more than I would have, I need things explained to me 😂 Honestly, I would love to read some of your papers from college! You have a lot of good observations and perceptions. I was an English major in college as well, although my concentration was writing, not literature
My writings are on ST Coleridge “The Willing Suspension of Disbelief” so it really goes well with this Universe they created, as I need to practice the suspension of disbelief. 💜💜💜
@lorydannagr OH that's awesome !! I've always found the suspension of disbelief to be such an interesting topic, it's my go-to deep-discussion topic for late night pub runs 😅🤣🤣 I don't know as much as I'd like tho
This BTS universe💜 Each of the series of these videos has a full song. When I watched it for the first time, I then listened to the song. This helped me understand the meaning a little more. Thank you for your reaction, I won’t explain anything, it’s more interesting, sometimes you try to understand it yourself.😉💜
