First Time Reaction To Dr Hook - When Your In Love With A Beautiful Woman 

"Cover Of The Rolling Stone" and "Sylvia's Mother" are possibly their best known hits. Both have a touch with reality. "Sylvia's Mother", written by Shel Silverstein, was inspired by a true life experience and Dr. Hook made it to the cover of the Rolling Stone. : )

One of the biggest attractions to this band was their bombastic and over-the-top swagger. You couldn't listen to their songs without the song effecting you in some way. And you could feel up a dance floor when their songs came on.

Get right into this band deep. They have soooooo much in their catalogue to choose from. Even comedic in the song-- on the cover of the rolling stone.

Ive been a Dr Hook fan since I was a kid. I still listen to them regularly. Some of my favorite music from that era.

Dr. Hook is great! Check out their song "Sylvia's Mother". I Love Ray Sawyer's voice (the maracas player) and his dance moves/energy. You can't help but smile when you would see him perform. Sadly, he passed away Dec 31, 2018 (81). I pray he's resting in peace. ❤🙏

Those were the days! It was so cool staying up late just so we could watch the Midnight Special. They had the best guests. It was like a variety show of current hits. You can’t find anything like that now. Watching videos on MTV doesn’t even come close. Love it when you do 70s rock. You just made me subscribe.

I was lucky enough to see these guys in the mid 70s. They were playing in this giant country bar in Corpus Christi Texas. It was surreal, there were maybe 100 people in the crowd and Jimmy Buffet was the opening act. Hardly anyone knew who he was then. When Dr.Hook came on they encouraged everyone to just come on up front and sit down in front of the stage. Crazy!

I haven't heard this is decades. Brings back good memories.

Takes a confident man to be with a Beautiful Woman. NOT all beautiful women cheat or are fools. This was my era of music. Dr Hook was always on the radio then. They were such an entertaining, fun band, especially Ray Sawyer (patch) & lead singer Dennis Locorriere. Sylvia's Mother and Cover of the Rolling Stone, first big hits. Many great tunes from this band, sad when they split really.

Ugh. Now, you should go further back in time and listen to them when they played good music as a band and had fun, before this era where it was just Dennis and Ray singing sappy pop love songs. I'd recommend Cover of the Rolling Stone, or Queen of the Silver Dollar, or Carry Me Carrie.

This song carries great words of wisdom, I've been through all this before, they know! It's sad really, you can't trust your friends as they say, it's not that we don't trust the woman, it's just how mens minds are wired, they access themselves comparing themselves to you, and if they feel they are better than you and have more to offer the woman they will approach behind your back and try to lure her, and it just doesn't stop. A good woman will let you know it's happening though.

Oh yes the Disco Rock years of the mid to late seventies The late Playboy writer children's novelist the amazing shel Silverstein When you talk about Dr Hook many people talk about Dr Hook and the medicine show and all their fun druggie anthems which were absolutely just a blast back in the circa 1970 through 1975 run Many of the classics were written by shel that Dr Hook covered Gems like penicillin penny, Acapulco Goldie, the cover of the rolling Stone, freaking at the freakers ball and the whole lot of great stuff before they broke apart in 1975 and did their own kind of thing like this with a lot more pop friendly music on the radio. They want it with a bang in 1975 with shel on a classic called I got stoned and missed it. A lot of people don't realize there's a difference between Dr Hook and Dr Hook and the medicine show when they basically change styles but if you ever check out some medicine show stuff it's a whole lot of fun guys
