Hello Chris [The Heck Podcast] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. I'm very glad your friend introduced you to the Nightwish musical universe. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Mexico City 2016, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I just posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community 🤘
Correction, this is from 2015, though Gabriel noted this in community chat. You'll note that Kai is new drummer in 2015 (Yukka had to retire from touring due to migraines and insomnia.... still with band on backend).
Nice reaction gents. Want a scale of Floor's vocal ability? Check out Disdain of her former band Revamp. She growls, then sings on normal levels, goes up more and more and ends with operatic levels.
Disdain does do a great job of showcasing her versatility, I just wish there was better quality audio on at least one performance of Wild Card, in under 60 seconds you get nearly the full spectrum.
If you like the behind the scenes stuff, check out "Jukka's last Show" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3BVzcIaoVoY.html where the music track is "Dark Chest of Wonders" from his last show, but the video actually spans a few years. BTW, Jukka was the original drummer and he stopped playing due to health reasons, but he's still with the band in a management capacity. The other video is 2 hours long so not reaction material, but it shows a great deal of insight into the band. "Please Learn the Setlist in 48. Hours". It documents Floor joining the band mid-tour in the U.S. with 48 hours notice. She went on stage in Seattle in October 2012, sick with a cold, having been 48 hours before at her sister's wedding and receiving a desperate call from Nightwish management. Most of the songs in the setlist she had never even heard before. She had 48 hours to book a flight from the Netherlands to Seattle, get her stage stuff together (a bigger deal for a woman), get copies of the music with lyrics, and learn it all on the flight over to the U.S. It's in Finnish with English subs, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vhExkmWKMEU.html
You really should react to Weak Fantasy, Live from Tampere 2015. Floors voice is amazing and for your drummer friend, I think he will enjou Kai playing his drums on that one
To experience their drummer Kai going completely mad, you might wanna check out his other band Wintersun with their live recording of "Sons of Winter and Stars".
Always Nightwish Live with FLOOR🥰🔥🤘 Tuomas the key player, is the writer and composer for these masterpieces. Please continue gents 🙏🎶🔥 Greetings from Finland.
Yes, don’t ruin it ! You must record your reactions ! Marko the bassist, is very accomplished singer/songwriter himself. He won Findlands masked singer this last year. But for other Nightwish songs… try Song of mMyself, Romaticide and Ghost River. Of course all live !
7 Days if the Wolves, The Siren, Storytime, Last Ride of the Day, Ghost Love Score, Wishmaster,I wish i had an Angel, Bye bye Beautiful, Shoemaker, Music, Pan, Tribal, Sacrament of Wilderness, The Poet and the Pendulum. Just to Name some, Greetings :Nightwish Army, Austria, Vienna.
I think Chris is hooked already, with Nightwish is that easy, I was there once :). Nice reacton,Guys, hope to see more. Greetings from Bulgaria , Happy Holidays
Thank you again for reacting to Nightwish and this song again with your friend. I really like it when you two are doing reactions together. Loved how you introduced him to BTS and now Nightwish. Keep on going. The Nightwish General Gabriel Bardac is already in the comments. Please go to his channel he'll get you all the information you need. Warm greetings from The Netherlands 👍💜🍀🤘💪🇳🇱🌷🤗
Good guy to show that to your friend 🙂 Floor going from growling Demon to mesmerizing Siren and back again.....what a Song....but for me it is the riffing... All Hail Queen Floor !
Love Nightwish! Found them thanks to reaction videos around a year ago and it was instant love. One of my favorite bands of all time now. Was lucky enough to see them in May. Greatest show I have ever seen in my life. You literally cannot go wrong with anything live from Nightwish, and I hope you do more. That said, a band I found that I love as much as Nightwish, just in different ways, and I am currently on the war path to go see live, is Lovebites. If you have not alrready, you both have to - have to - check out something live from them. Most start with Holy War, live from Zepp, but after that, you have to get around to Set the World on Fire and Thunder Vengeance, both live. Thank me later!
What a great compliment Floor the female version of Bruce Dickinson from Iron maiden. I always wanted both of the to do a song together it would be Amazing!.
Epicness right there on that stage. Every band member a master of their craft. It's great to introduce someone to Nightwish and see the effect they have on them. 🙏👍😊♥️
Hi Chris and John. New Nightwish Army subscriber here for Chris... already there for John. You two were fantastic together in this reaction. I loved how John guided you, Chris, into this heavier Nightwish song with Floor doing the harsh growling in every chorus. Nightwish is one of those rare bands whose live performances are even better than their studio productions. John, I think you started off reacting to Ghost Love Score at Wacken 2013 which shows another amazing side of Floor Jansen (Yan-sen)'s voice but every live performance from this band is amazing. By the way, you can't go wrong following Gabriel Bardac's list (a link at the end of his comment). I hope to hear more of your reactions to our beloved band with Floor as the lead vocalist. Great job and I truly enjoyed this.
Floor being compaired to Bruce Dickinson. Don't think she'd mind that! She did cover a Maiden song (Evil that men do) in her first band, After Forever.
You should check out Floor's old band Revamp with the song Disdain or Wildcard. It's heavier than Nightwish and you can enjoy the full spectrum of the Valkyrie Goddess's voice 😇😇❤️🤘
Great reaction, you should follow Gabriel's list, he has done such a great job of giving people knowledge about Nightwish, the Nightwish army considers him the General.
Hi guys! As already mentioned in the comments...please react to NW together! There's so much to enjoy and to be blown away by. And for you Chris as you're a drummer....Kai Hahto, their current drummer and the one you just saw, is a lovely and modest guy but he is also "The Human Metronome" or "The Beast"!! Before NW he was a member of the Finnish band called Wintersun. If you check out "Sons of Winter and Stars" Live rehearsels at Sonic Pump Studios you'll see why he has those nicknames haha!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TI5T-gITdXw.html Enjoy!!
Gotta try more so you see the all they can do. This is the metal side, Storytime is the best rock track and Everdream is softer. My all time favorite is Song of Myself is rock/metal Don't forget to react to Floor doing Disneys Let it go metal style
Finally someone appreciates live if you can't do it live it's fake they can make anyone sound good even me and trust me you don't want to hear me sing, and the musicians are the best and with tuomas holopainen the keyboard player who writes the music they together are the best God bless
Great reaction👍👌💓 Please also do Planet Hell from the Hellfest festival from last summer or better do the whole Concert. Greetings from the Netherlands ❤❤
Welcome to the rabbithole! Gabriel's list is the way to go to start with - the first few on there show some of their variety, and after that we can make more specific suggestions. Enjoy!
Great, great job, guys. Loved your reactions. We are in our mid 70s and discovered this band four years ago through our son, and have been avid fans since. Love watching reactions and the surprise and emotions this band bring out in first timers. This reaction sold us and we are new subscribers. FYI, what sets this band apart for us is how unique their compositions are and no two songs are alike. Tuomas, keyboardist, writes and arranges the vast majority of their songs, and we fans refer to him as our Metal Mozart. We would love to see the reaction by both of you to our favorite live performance of "7 Days to the Wolves" from their 2015 Wembley Arena concert. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WUdU9GLks5s.html Very heavy, high energy, yet melodic. Greetings from the great high desert of southeast Arizona.
Greetings from Nightwish Army, Palm Springs, CA! As Anders says...we live to see how you react to stuff we already love. It's sharing an experience! Just FYI...the band is Finnish...no Vikings in that country. Floor is Dutch, married to a Swede...SHE is an actual Viking! You both will love, by Nightwish, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean live Buenos Aries!
Hi The Heck Podcast, i loved to see your reaction video of Nightwish. For me they are the best band in the world 😍 I also have another recommendation for you. If you like surprises, then try this masterpiece of our Dutch genius Arjen Anthony Lucassen with 11 awesome singers (I won't spoil who they are, but i think you will recognize some of them 😉): Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down. Here is the link to the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oFuMKdrzPqU.html You will be blown away by all the talented musicians and singers! You won't be dissappointed....I PROMISE! Hope to see your reaction to this masterpiece soon and for now....Greetings, stay safe and lots of love from The Netherlands, Martin.
You should definitely do a reaction together to 7 Days to the Wolves, the Wembley version. I think Gabriel has the link to it in his comment here below. But please react together 😉 this reaction of you was so much fun already😉
Hi, Thanks for a great reaction - good to get Chris' opinion too. Just a little suggestion - the difference in sound levels between the video and you two in the studio was massive; if I could hear the video, my ears nearly burst when you guys spoke! Put the two levels closer together and you'll have more repeat listens! Thanks again guys.
Best Story about Floors growling is, that she didnˋt knew she could do this. She first heared grownling at a festival and she was like: huh, I lke that. I try it! - And she did. At this festival. After, she came down the stage and someone was like: "holy, I didnˋt know you could growl!" And Floor was just like: "Me neither. Funny, eh?" :D She told this story in an interview some years ago. I laughed so hard about it.
Nightwish is more Lord of the rings than Viking. This here sounds more like Viking, even when it comes to Celts: Eluveitie - Aidus (Official Music Video)
Try Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down - The Source (2017) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oFuMKdrzPqU.html And Ayreon - Valley of the Queens (Anneke van Giersbergen, Floor Jansen, Marcela Bovio) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TbebO5BZi-I.html Or Star One - Fate of Man (Brittney Slayes, Michael Romeo) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vn7P3oVMnys.html Or Ambeon - Ashes (Simone Simons) (Electric Castle Live And Other Tales) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZLR3aTqlBNg.html Or Guilt Machine - Twisted Coil (Damian Wilson) (Electric Castle And Other Tales) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gcHn0kCgmAs.html
Please do Romanticide next. It will showcase the guitarist, Emppu, more. And funny that you mentioned siren since Nightwish has a song called The Siren. Though they don't perform it live anymore. It was performed during the first singer's era. Also, Nightwish still does live DVD's. They have done a bunch of them.
Dark Chest of Wonders and 7 Days to the Wolves and Romanticide.... all from 2013 Wacken (pronounced VAKen as its in Germany). There is a DVD from 2013 Wacken.... though "1st time reactions" have the benefit of driving up subs and likes on your channel.
If you like NW but want to vary your videos, try: Ayreon -The Day That The World Breaks Down ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oFuMKdrzPqU.html ) The producer, composer, guitarist, bass guitarist, keyboards player are one and the same guy: Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He's Dutch, just short of 7' tall, very very shy (which isn't really compatible with being 7' tall 😁), and as genius as Tuomas Holopainen. His music is a mix of classical, blues, rock, metal, electro and per album, tells a story. He's got a little black book with BIG names he can call on for all parts he can't or won't do himself. The singing parts, drums, cello, flute, grandpiano, etc. Names? Well, there's 'hardly known' singers like Bruce Dickinson, Damian Wilson, Hansi Kursch, Devin Townsend, Floor Jansen, Dave Brock, Marko Hietala, James LaBrie, Russell Allen, Nils K. Rue. And just like NW, it feels like a family making music.
I'm laughing at the comparison to Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, because I know of another woman who embodies Bruce way more than Floor: Brittney Slayes of Unleash the Archers! Unleash the Archers is from Vancouver, BC, Canada, and is an award-winning band. In 2021, they won the Juno Award (Canadian Grammy) for their album Abyss, which won 2020 Metal Album of the Year. Their style is a mix between DragonForce and Iron Maiden. And if you want to hear Brittney sing like Bruce, check out the karaoke video of her singing Queen of the Reich by Queensryche, or Fate of Man from the album Star-One by Arjen Lucassen.
You guys are amazing and your friend is sooo cool!!! Bring him.on for the rides... The next maybe Gost River and the full version at correct speed of Song of myself would be... I'm curious also what you think of Bless the Child... Those are all Wachen 2013. Peace out from Romania, Eastern Europe!!!
Hello from Germany. My opinion to this kind of reaction: absolutly bad sound quality, you have echoes and "cracks" in it. I don't know why you have guitars in the background, because you can't be musicians when you react to music like that. Try headphones and please not the cheapest ones. This will help not to doubles the Sound. And I think both of you are too loud, lower the microphone. And my last thing is, please never talk during the actor is singing or somebody are playing Solis (guitar, keyboard.....). I know I'll get another shitstorm, but this is my opinion. At least, sorry about my bad English but I'm only german
This is with their current drummer Kia now you need to introduce him to their original drummer Jukka ... Maybe with the song Everdream from Wacken 2013
You compared floor to Bruce Dickinson. Well check this out Floor in her old band After Forever did a cover of Maiden's track The Evil that men do. Some clever clog has spliced that cover track with adding Bruce's vocals...pretty neat. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KCL5c8ryGl8.html
Just wanted to point out that you guys were watching a version thats sligthly speed up. I dont know way but there seem to be a lot of them out there...
Eu venerava essa banda no início dos anos 2000. Olha o que virou... Se um dia, a Tarja voltasse e fizesse dueto com essa menina, acho que eu sofreria um ataque cardíaco de alegria. Sonhar não custa nada.
