I saw them back in the 70's, in Houston. The characters in the audience were as entertaining as the group. The guitar player was missing 2 strings on his guitar, but I'm not sure he was aware of it. It was a CRAZY show, and lots of fun!

id love to go see them live, i wonder if they still tour over here in the UK - ive done 3 reactions to these guys now (next one comes out next week) and everytime ive laughed and enjoyed them!

Good reaction. "52 Girls" is a cool song from their first album. "Debbie" is another good tune. It's an ode to Debbie Harry from Blondie.

@@Azimov-REACTS They are doing a residency at the Venician in Las Vegas. I saw them there last year. They are doing another round there in the spring. They had been saying they were retiring.

Ricky Wilson and Keith Strickland did most of the instrument playing in the studio. Early Live shows, Cindy Wilson (The one you called the dancer) played rums, Keith S. and Kate Pierson played keys while Keith also played bass and Ricky played the shit out of the guitar. Ricky and Cindy were siblings. Ricky died in '86 and Keith took over on guitars. Ricky was a master of understated playing. In this video, it's all lip-synch, but Ricky still plays every chord, even if he does fake the lead licks a bit.

Legal Tender and Song For A Future Generation are also good early B-52's songs. Not as quirky as Rock Lobster or Private Idaho, but still fun.

Consider the musical context in which this music caught fire. If you look at the horrible 1970's crap that was at the top of the charts in April 1978 when Rock Lobster dropped, better yet force yourselves to actually listen to that garbage, you will appreciate why this song and this band were such a big deal.
