What he said might’ve been true, but it also ignores the fact that all of these men that followed him all over the Middle East and Asia had not seen their families in years and they were all getting older with every new conquest. Eventually, there comes a question on how much do you need to conquer?

Of course, much of what he said what true, but he made the speech to honour himself,to empower himself and make his men feel ashamed..he did force them in many instances,to go to the end of the world almost, with him,for his lust of power and glory,so of course,he wasnt any saint or anything...he was a genious as a military leader, but no saint towards his men..and others..Alot of people did lose their lives in the endless wars of conquest..in many cases to satisfy Alexanders lust for glory, fame and reputation...so we need to keep that in mind too here..

If you are going to try the epic history Napoleonic series after this... I highly recommend watching the YT channel Oversimplified's French Revolution, then his Napoleonic Wars series to get a good general overview of the context of what's going on. Beacuse epic history goes into the deatils of Napoleons battles, but I think people can get confused on what's happening in those videos because there's not much context on who's fighting and why the battles are happening in the first place. After watching Oversimplified, then ( I think) you would greatly enjoy and appreciate epic history tv's content even more. Anyway, that's just what I think, do what you like. I think either way it'll be fun to watch your reactions and learn together. Adios!

The amazing thing with Alexander is that he was the best general and the best soldier in all ancient history. Other great generals like Hannibal or Cesar were great generals and sometimes they went in first line to rally soldiers and raise morale, but Alexander always was in first line because he wanted to win the battles and not that his soldier won them for him. Also he was tutored by Aristotle and he want to merge his history with mythology that's why he compares his achivements with gods and heros achivements. That's why everyone wanted to be like him, Hannibal, Cesar, Pompeus or even Napoleon.

There is an historical error in how the speech is delivered. Alexander refers to Palestine. This word was not used until the Romans used it will after Alexander. The Romans used it to insult the Jews. Palestine meant the land of the Philistines which was applied to the Jewish Kingdom that they were constantly fighting. Obviously, this is a translation of a speech we don't know is real. Therefore, there may be additional errors of him saying things that he couldn't have said.

@@sandbagger57 The original speech was never recorded. That is a reconstruction of Arrian, a Greek who lived in the Roman period. And even then, the speech in this video is not word for word what Arrian wrote, but a dramatized version of it. In the original Arrian writings there is no mention of Palestine. In that specific part, he mentions "Φοινίκη καὶ Αἴγυπτος ξὺν τῇ Λιβύῃ τῇ Ἑλληνικῇ καὶ Ἀραβίας ἔστιν ἃ καὶ Συρία", which translates to "Phoenicia and Egypt to Greek Libya and parts of Arabia and Syria".
