Lets go

I would tread lightly when it comes to Gintama, because as lit as the fights tend to be (particularly ones like this) it is heavily based on comedy and slice-of-life stuff at the beginning; like the first 2 and a half seasons. A lot of people tend to have mixed feelings when they get into the series because they assumed most of it would include more Shounen-like stuff like this, and usually react with some disappointment at the "slow" pacing and dragged out gags. Although to be fair the creator didn't have a solid idea of what he wanted and was initially experimenting with this series in order to figure out what he should make; His only request to his editors and the company was that he be given the freedom to write Gintama the way that he wanted without restrictions. Of course, that being said, I can personally vouche that this series is definitely a "Dark Horse" PEAK FICTION of it's generation (which were the early 2000s anime group). Back when I was kid and first saw this I had doubts it was going to be worth investing and would last. But lo and behold, this anime/manga lasted more than 15+ years than some of it's peers, managed to balance out it's wacky comedy with it's more serious undertone elements, and managed to finish in a highly satisfying way you'd expect only the best stories to end; which isn't very often tbh. So if you are willing to one day take a gamble with this series to see for yourself why it is highly praised, I can guarantee that it won't disappoint you by the end.
