Imagine that you keep on your toes while watching a really tense fight, you care about the characters and the emotional part hits the right notes, then you burst out laughing from the very same characters and wondering when will you watch a better show like this. In a nutshell, this is Gintama.
If you only want the fights and think it’s a regular shounen don’t watch gintama. In my opinion this anime deserves way better, Gintoki is my number 1 favorite protagonist. A guy who enjoys everyday of his life despite having such a horrible past. No spoiler.
I would recommend Gintama if you can enjoy comedy. Treat Gintama as a sitcom, dont expect anything, keep following it, you will be rewarded with some of the greatest fights and arcs in shonen series. It basically comedy, but it knows how to shift the tone to deliver serious arcs. Gintama still my no.1 anime to this day. PS: skip eps 1&2, they are fillers, targeted for the manga readers to celebrate they are getting animated.
Why does everyone hate the first two episodes? They're a little more wacky than normal Gintama episodes, but they tell a good story and it's still pretty funny. I've watched the whole anime and the first two episodes are not bad at all.
please watch gintama. i finished it yesterday and i can comfortably say it’s the best piece of media among the many i’ve seen. the emotion and buildup behind every fight is incredible.
This anime become my bumber 1 after finishing it. It has it all, heavy comedy, wholesomeness, and surprisingly there are sad arcs that really is hella emotional it's like gintama got the traits of the two side of the coin and mix it and makes it better
@@UncheckedOpinions The last fight is really fucking epic but unfortunately it was heavily edited. If you end up watching Gintama I won't link a better video. Just know that if you end up watching gintama, 90% of the episodes are comedy but I guess if you guys have seen golden boy you will propably enjoy it. Also for comedy check out Great Teacher Onizuka
Gintoki has a wooden sword, since swords are banned in Gintama (it's based off late 1860s Japan and the west invading) only the police or rebels carry them. So if Gintoki walks around with an actual sword he'd get arrested. Also his sword is made from wood off another planet, so it's really more like an iron club than wood.
yeah i mean yankees can carry guns to groccery stores even these days, somethimes i forget my knife on my belt after fishing trip and that could get me arrested
The sauna episode with the florist guy had me cracking up so bad that my brother came into my room cause he thought I was choking. The jerry episode had me in tears. The opening sequence in the four devas arc got me excited and it was just pirako going around asking questions about who was the strongest in town. This show is the South Park or family guy of Japan. The shit they pull would never fly anywhere else.
Gintama is hands down my favorite anime sadly many people have a hard time getting into it because the anime starts of kinda slow with a lot of character introduction(kinda like Hitman reborn) but it's really important and it really pays off Gintama characters have CHARACTER!
@@UncheckedOpinions Shinsengumi Arc is personally one of the best arcs because some new interesting characters appear, and focuses on the police characters. And the main villain for that arc is so relatable unlike the other villains.
And if you want to react to it start from ep 3 and I’ll suggest you watch a couple episodes at a time so you’ll reach the serious arcs faster.. Gintama is like a serious relationship you have to commit to it to see results AOT and Naruto were my favorite shounen before watching Gintama now it’s absolutely Gintama that sits at number one It doesn’t take itself seriously most of the time but when it’s serious you can’t help but cry
Fo real tho if you ever watch this series I’m telling you right now don’t be expecting these fights off the bat. It takes a good 50ep for the show to introduce all the characters and flesh out the story. Enjoy the comedy it slow at first but it’s worth it when you get to the fighting it’s actually mad satisfying. First serious arc is benizakura ep 58
@@UncheckedOpinions Benizakura was also adapted into a Movie later on. I'd recommend You'd watch the Movie. It's the same as in the Anime but without OP or ED or any breaks and better animation.

Anyways here's my perpective on this great anime: - TONs of references to other shonen anime and sometimes they even push their limits on how far they can go. If you never seen other animes then many of the jokes will fly over your head. - Roughly based on actual historical figures and events. Gintoki uses a wooden sword because Edo Japan actually banned them. Must have a brief understanding of Japanese history and politics to understand WHY some things are the way they are here. - Even though this series was published in Shonen Jump, they are a fresh breath of air when it comes to the typical tropes, we have all seen in other Shonen series. Gintoki doesn't learn an "ultimate move," he doesn't train 24/7 to get stronger, he doesn't have a goal, there is no BS power move that the Villans pull out of their asses without explanation........ The dude just wants to avoid paying his rent, get fucked up, gamble, and chill. He himself admits that he isn't a perfect person. He has flaws and despite his troubled past, he is just trying to survive in Edo period Japan where samurais don't hold much significance/power anymore. - They also make references to current politics. Both Japanese & the US. Obama appeared in one episode and Donald trump was also mentioned. They really are the South Park of anime. - The mix of sci-fi and historical Edo Japan sounds weird, but it strangely goes well together. An entire arc was a parody of Star Wars and Gundam. - Most people drop Gintama because they see cool scenes like the fighting, but people need to be aware that it's mainly comedy. There isn't exactly a plot and the series is filled with arcs throughout that showcase drama and fighting. Sometimes it can be very sad. The villains in this show aren't exactly evil just becuase....many have actual reasons to fight and their background is complicated. My favorite thing is Gintama doesn't drag on the flashbacks and they keep it pushing. - This show was my guilty pleasure. I would watch it when I finished my other shows and I would always come back to it just for fun & relaxation. Hopefully this helps other people considering watching it ! cheers*

The respect the gorilla gives to each character and not fitting them into the usual tropes of manga and anime is amazing. Every character feels important. Sorachi could probably thrive in any story writing endeavour.
Btw most of these you don’t see how it ended... also the last fight number one they kept fighting till the sun almost went out And to answer your question most the show is comedy and world building however when it gets serious it’s amazing and what makes these fights great isn’t the fight itself but the drama and the characters.
No.. im not suggesting watch Gintama since you only wants a fight scene.. fight scenes in Gintama are only less than 5% of all episodes.. and good luck if you only specialist on fight scene in Anime...

Gintama is the GOAT, only problem is since that it's a comedy it can be subjective but you should give it a shot since if it's for you, it'll be one of your favourites

Sadly for people who only watch shonen or anime in general for fights. Gintama is not for you. Gintama has short fights, but has a lot going on emotionally, the selling point is story telling, not action. Although it has enough to quench the thirst for action, don't expect Naruto, one piece, dbz, bleach, fairytail kind of fights. Most of the characters here do not have super powers (relatively speaking), heck, none of them even have moves that have names.
not most people say this in the comment but what gintama succed on using comedy is what the author is probably saying and doing is. Love these character laugh with them cry with them like normal ppl and when things get serious and u know who these characters are u will know them and understand them and their personality and their past also might be revealed Gintoki For Me Is the best shounen mc people rarely talks about ppl say luffy naturo edward elric etc but Gintoki is just a very different kind of mc hes not a good guy sometimes even an asshole but hes a great man when u see all of his past which is foreshadowed in the anime while you are watching it u will cry with him and even love him more also that 1 Fight u guys watched the guy he fought is like him if he didnt actually want to live in peace and rest hes past Hes an great antagonist to him one of the best actually Also Gintoki Vs Takasugi Is my favorite fight in all of anime rivalry etc its my 1 i hope u enjoy gintama! its not easy to get into but if u like if u drop it then watch it again thats completly understandable but dont completly drop it!

To my understanding from fans who've watched Konosuba and Golden Boy, Gintama is among the top tiered cultured series. It requires a lot of patience since it can spend the first 2 seasons on world building+character introductions, and can overstay a few jokes here and there that might go over your heads since Japanese humor is a little different, but overall the journey is worth it. These fights, plot twists, and many other factors are the payoffs you get if you stick with it. And if the cards are right, by the time you've caught up you may get to see the epic finale via The Final Movie; which is a pretty GOAT way for any series to go out. 🤘🏽
I am gonna say Gintama is not the best Anime. Nor One Piece/Bleach/Naruto is to me. 😬 They all have their flaws with either Plots/fillers/over dramatic/ bad animation scenes. The contents are also very different bcux its 80% comedy and totally rewatchable without skipping the fillers (You wont even know which one are fillers) 🤗 and its the only anime that I actually love the fillers. Gintama is cult classic comedy slice of life and shonen anime so its not much enjoyable for everyone as One Piece/Bleach/Naruto is. I am saying that bcuz I dont want you to be overhyped about it :D it took me 300 episodes (Spoiler...... assasination arc) to actually like Gintama bcuz I binge watched all of the good contents. Its not binge watchable to me bcuz the contents are not stretched out like most long animes. If I have to rewatch 1 Anime tho it will always be Gintama over other Shonen's thats for sure.
