Like people say, Taylor Swift writes and sings songs about her exes, but Stevie makes them perform it while she stares at them. Mainly to Lindsay. Watch Silver Springs, she calls him OUT! 😂

You're making it sound like Nicks and Petty had a "thing" at one point... Not that we know of and Stevie claims never had those type of feelings for Tom despite being so close. She may have been a little twisted by dating TWO members each, of TWO supergroups... Lindsay and Mick Fleetwood, from her own band, as well as Don Henley and Joe Walsh from the Eagles. Joe-F'ing-Walsh... And THIS, kids, is why we learned to play guitar in the '80s. :))

But Tom and Mike Campbell wrote the song, Tom decided to do it as a duet with Stevie, and Tom's band the Heartbreakers are the band. Stevie had nothing to do with the song other than singing on it.

@@eriklarson9137 there’s a great 4 part doc called The Defiant Ones about Iovine and Dr Dre. Part of it focuses on Iovine’s early career when he was producing Springsteen, Petty, etc… There’s a long segment on this particular song and how it affected the Iovine/Petty relationship. Was originally on HBO, but I’m sure it’s floating around out there.

This is a Tom Petty song and he agreed to let Stevie Nicks record it on her debut solo album. Jimmy Lovine big time record executive talked them both into doing this song as a duet. And Tom Petty was already established as the Rockin Icon he is at this time. Both of them were established and known.

❤Stevie Nicks is the first woman to be inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame TWICE! With Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist. They were both superstars when they collaborated. This was going to be on Tom's album but he loved Stevie's performance so much he did not record it and the song went to her for her epic Bella Donna album.

Stevie had a good solo career, but not an iconic or groundbreaking solo career. I don't think she deserved to be inducted as a solo artist, her Fleetwood Mac induction was enough. And to think she was the first woman for both is ridiculous.

I see you discovered one of the greatest duets. Tom originally wrote the song for him and the Heartbreakers. He thought it would be better suited for Stevie. She liked the song and their managers suggested a duet. Oh by the way that's the Heartbreakers in the background. You might want to check out her duet with Don Henley of the Eagles, leather and Lace. Yes her solo career was huge. Is huge

respectfully, sort of. Tom Petty absolutely did not want to give the song away or do a duet with Stevie, but Jimmy Iovine is a bit of a genius and sold him on it. Jimmy won! So did we! Stevie is singing with Petty's band, The Heartbreakers. Petty's guitarist, Mike Campbell, wrote the song, as I understand it, they gave it to Stevie. She and Petty were friends forever. They called Stevie an honorary Heartbreaker. She showed up at a few of their shows and would perform a few songs with them. Another song she sang with them is, I Need to Know. Another good song to check out. ...but, please, keep checking Fleetwood Mac. Stevie is the bomb! Silver Springs, live 1997, The Dance. And yes, Stevie was also a solo artist. On one of his tours, he actually had Stevie come out and sing a few songs, including this iconic duet with Tom + Heartbreakers, and it was so cool to see it live, rather than just a video (the concert was years after this early 80s video). She had put on a few pounds, but still had that sultry smoky voice. A great memory!

Just FYI, this is NOT a Stevie Nick's song, she did not have anything to do with writing it. TOM PETTY wrote the song with Heartbreakers lead guitarist Mike Campbell, and Tom decided to do it with Stevie on vocals. So its Stevie singing along in a duet with Tom Petty, singing Tom Petty's song, with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as the backing band. That's why it's not a Fleetwood Mac song, and not just a Stevie Nick's solo song. You should have included Tom Petty at least in the title, ITS A DUET!!

If you really want to see Stevie stare down someone then check out “Silver Springs” (live) from “The Dance” concert tour in 1997 (was in the audiance at MSG for this stellar tour)! Tom wrote this song with Stevie in mind to perform the duo, it was released on her first solo album (same one that “Edge of Seventeen” appeared on), “Bella Donna” in 1981. Another hit duo from this album, "Leather and Lace" features Don Henley of The Eagles. It was a very successful solo album for Stevie and reached number 1 on Billboard. Stevie wrote “Dreams” and sings lead! Next song from Stevie should be “Rooms on Fire”.

Hello from New England There are actually 2 versions of Fleetwood Mac They started in the mid 60's without Stevie or Lindsey Buckingham as a heavy British Blues band and had success with their original legendary guitarist Peter Green who they called The Green God Then for various reasons members left and Christine McVey the other singer you mentioned also plays keyboards and was married to the bass player John McVey joined the band before Stevie and Lindsay joined Then in the early to mid 70's Mic Fleetwood the drummer heard a demo of Stevie and Lindsay and the rest is history Hope that helps fill in some gaps for you And yes Stevie had a massive stand alone solo career ✌️🤘😎🧐

Hey BP - I think it's easy to forget from this side that even though you have done so much, there are always significant artist holes, simply because you didn't live through it. People assume things just because you have done so much listening work around this same time.

Don Felder of the Eagles used to give guitar lessons in his Florida hometown when in walked a young 14 year old Thomas Petty to take lessons. A few years later, he was topping the charts.

Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty were Good Friends and wanted to do a duet together, she also did other duets with famous singers, Check out the older stuff, always seems to sound better like: Tom Petty - You Got Lucky - Don't Do Me Like That - Jammin Me - Don't Come Around Here No More - American Girl Stevie Nicks / Fleetwood Mac - Seven Wonders - Second Hand News - Talk To Me - Stand Back - Rooms on Fire - Silver Springs - If Anyone falls Stevie Nicks and Don Henley - Leather and Lace

From what I read, Stevie really, really wanted to be a member of Tom’s band called the Heartbreakers, but the band said “no girls allowed”. However, occasionally Stevie would show up at a few of Tom’s concerts and either they would ask her to join them or she would ask to sing with them.

The thing about Stevie is everybody focuses on the big songs but she has amazing things out there. "The Nightbird" "Sorcerer" with Sheryl Crow, "Fall From Grace" "The Highwayman" "Belladonna" she even wrote a song from an Edgar Allan Poe poem "Annabel Lee." Dive down that Rabbit Hole, son, you won't regret it!

To help on your Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks journey. She dated FM Lindsey Buckingham, whom she had to continue to perform with after the breakup. After they broke up she asked her friend Tom Petty to write a song for her about it (they were good friends). Stop Dragging My Heart Around is what her wrote. Supposedly this song took him ten minutes to write…..and it’s fantastic! Yeah. Tom had been popular for many years before this song. My favorite Tom Petty, and fav Stevie song.

The other female was Christine McVie who sadly passed away in 2022. If you want to get an idea of her vocal ability, check out the Fleetwood Mac ballad “Songbird”. Also, I’m pretty sure that the rest of the band are the Heartbreakers as in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Stevie was a prolific songwriter but Fleetwood didn't have room for another songwriter when her and Lindsey came on board. The way that that group reacted to her writing songs is what FORCED her to not only have a great career with them, but also a HUGE solo career as well! She's the closest thing to a musical machine that you will ever find in human form!

Both were big at this time but Stevie was going solo. Tom wrote a lot of hits for himself and others and this was a great collaboration. This song is on most Tom Petty Best of compilations.

Hey everyone who dumps on you didn't see the fact you grew up overseas. You get a gold star. Christie McVey sang and piano. Too funny my daughter told me she discovered this new singer. Omg it was Stevie Nicks😂 I'm an 80s chick I grew up listening to all her stuff. I love her music ❤❤
