My daughter wanted to learn to weld using a stick welder. So, I fired up my Miller Generator Welder and we got to work burning through some welding rod. It took her 5 tries to figure out how to keep the welding rod from sticking or sputtering out. She was determined to make a puddle and not make another hole in the metal.
We were using 6013 Hobart welding rod. The welder is very old, and I recently was able to get the Onan Engine running after sitting for 10 plus years.
The entire process of teaching, showing, and watching produced a positive experience. She later asked to be taught how to weld two pieces of metal together. I think that is a WIN.
