As an American living in London, I recently realized that there are a lot of "British experiences" that I have yet to try! So in today's vlog I'm visiting Tesco Extra for the first time and then dipping some biscuits in tea!

Never dip a rich tea. I actually didn't know why they call it a tea biscuit it very bad at getting soggy and falling into the drink lol and everyone I known who has dunked a rich tea for even 3 seconds lose the biscuit in the tea maybe the formula was sturdier to dunk years ago but definitely not the more recent kind. Bourbons are nice the more finger shape with a bit sugar on them not a fan of the more squared shape they do taste different not as good
@carlyc9
@carlyc9 5 лет назад
Omg anxiety with how long you were dipping the biscuits! 😂 certain biscuits are a risk of breaking off in your tea Paige....for future biscuit dipping! Is brits know that a job nob is quite reliable, a custard cream or a bourbon is a drop risk, that baby will drop to the bottom of your mug and you’ll be drinking biscuit bits! 🤣

I’m an American and a southerner so we are big on tea here but it usually the cold, sweet kind. However I was raised in Europe (Army brat) so I grew up watching my parents-particularly my dad-drink hot tea and YES he loves it with milk. I took to drinking hot tea myself a few years ago but I will admit for the most part, it is really just an excuse for me to have a few biscuits before bed (I like my tea after dinner). My older brother bought me an electric kettle last year for Christmas and it has changed my life, no more annoying stovetop boiling for this girl! I’ve tried most of the biscuits you had and the McVities varieties are my favorite. Hard to come by around here so I usually order them on Amazon. Loved watching this video, I’m subscribing now so I can keep up with more of your British “experiences”. Highly entertaining, lol!!

Half American, Half Brit here. Been drinking tea since the day I could hold a cup on my own. 1. Never leave your tea bag in your tea, it’ll turn bitter. 2. Try 2% milk, it’ll be way better than the almond milk. You’ll figure out how much milk you like as you go. 3. Be careful how long you leave the biscuit in when dunking. I usually count to three. You run danger of the biscuit breaking off and slushy biscuit tea is not good. My favourite is McVities dark chocolate digestives, however the milk digestives are good too. Glad you’re trying out British things, there are some things the Brits just do right.

This is a cute video. I'm originally from Trinidad, so we do it similar with England. One step further, we soak our biscuits in our tea. How we usually make our tea is regular milk(especially evaporated or condensed milk(this one is already sweet) that in the US uses for baking only. In the US, I'll use half-and-half. Then It's used with Lipton, Red Rose or Bromley regular tea and brown sugar. Yum!

A rule of thumb for using electric kettles is only boil as much water as you need, they're phenomenally power-draining and expensive to run! As regards milk, it goes in first for loose tea, but last for bags (because the fat in the milk can block the perforations in the bag).

I like both. When I was in NC I loved sausage and egg biscuits from Bojangles and biscuits and gravy with other stuff. I tried to make a cup of tea when I was over there but all I could find was Yorkshire Tea bags or ice tea bags and neither tasted the same as what you'd get here in the UK. I like Typhoo tea bags, I find that they have a more refreshing taste to them than PG Tips. I have a brown Betty tea pot from the early 1900s with tea cups and saucers from 1890s and tea is fantastic. There is a grocery store called Iceland and they sell a mixed box of all different kinds of biscuits that I like to buy. The boxes are always different each time so its like a lucky dip you never know what your going to get. Its a shame there are no real tea shops in the UK, its all coffee shops now.

In the States, we have lots of cookies that are similar if not the same. We just don't refer to them as 'biscuits', at least not in everyday conversation. But many of them are labeled as biscuits, like the Belvita brand. The ethnic foods aisle has biscuits from Asia & Mexico that are real cheap. They might also be called shortbreads. I've also seen 'Walkers' from Scotland at my grocery store. Never tried it tho. So we have lots of options here actually. Snaps & wafers would make good stand-ins for biscuits too.

Everyone please understand that in America we know what biscuits are, we know how to use a kettle - a proper one- and we put milk in our tea as well. America is a diverse place with many cultures and subcultures and this is not as foreign to all of us. This is just Paige experiencing new things in her life and is not indicative of the entire United States of America and its people.

Nah, I think it's okay to admit that most Americans don't know how to use a kettle because most of us have never owned one. We're not a nation of tea-drinkers culturally. Tea is not important to us. Simple as that. And most of us *don't* put milk in our tea when we do drink it. Tea is only big in the South, and even then it's "sweet tea"/iced tea. This is all okay. What's not okay is looking down on others because of cultural differences. Not knowing how to use a kettle because you don't drink tea or don't drink tea in the same way as people from other countries do is a cultural difference. It's ignorant to criticize someone for not being familiar with something that's not part of their culture and which they're not exposed to.
