The other reason why traditional Malay houses are on stilts is that originally you might have wild animals living in the forest around you so you want to make sure that your house is not easily accessible by animals by making them on higher ground. The elevated position of the house would also help with air flow as the breeze can travel through the house with little obstructions.
18:19 absolutely correct Saiful, main reason is flooding and rain. But the other reason is some of the old traditional houses can be moved by lifting it up. All villagers come to help move it ❤
Hey guys! Damn funny bumping into you guys last night, what a coincidence! 🤣 As you can see, I made Wanjo my local now 😜 Glad you guys enjoyed too! 🥺 Spot me at 11:31 😝the guy I'm with is my old editor Omar semua (you might remember he edited my videos last year) before you make any assumptions 😝🤣 But guys, hmu anytime if you want to film something fun in KL 😍big love 🥺🙏
*I search Rendang. And Wikipedia say* *Alternative names: Randang* *Course: Main course* *Place of origin: Indonesia[1][2]* *Region or state: West Sumatra[3]* *_And CNN say that from Indonesia._* *Sambal, Wikipedia say* *Course: Condiment or side dish* *Place of origin: Indonesia[1]* *Region or state: Java* *Associated cuisine: Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Suriname*
@@AlanM2304 That is not true. Rendang origin was from Malaka Malaysia. One of the sheikh from Melaka during Malaka Sultanate introduced it to the Minangkabau tribe in Sumatra
My advice, hold your judgement until you try nasi lemak kak chuk, and nasi lemak Tanglin. Edit: at least they're the most famous in KL(also village park, but you guys have tried that before). You haven't tried the most famous in each state and hundreds of other varieties. Every nasi lemak place you encounter have their own recipes, basically it's trial and error until you find your favourite ones. It's not easy to become the national dish of Malaysia when you have the malay, chinese, indian (chinese and indian food here are quite different from the respective mainland because they're basically Malaysian style) also you have quite a varieties of food from the sabah and sarawak. I'm an ethnic indian in malaysia but if you ask me I'm always Malaysian first, indian next lol. I felt so awkard when i visited the land of my forefathers which is Tamilnadu.
There's a new Nasi Lemak shop in KL called Nasi Lemak Burung Hantu, apparently it is very tasty too and long Q during peak hours. Must get there early to get the main dishes before they run out.
About the houses on stilts, yes, the original purpose was to avoid flood. You'll notice in some states, the stilts are shorter (less flood prone areas), and others are up to 7-8 feet tall (bad floods). The other reason is to avoid wild animals that roams at night, including snakes, wildboars and so on. During the day, the areas beneath house is used for activities because of the shade. Traditionally Malays are farmers and gatherers, and they do this in the early morning. In the afternoon, they chill underneath the house. Nowadays, these areas are also used as a garage. So all your assumptions are correct!
Yeah, you both are right ..good food at a good place ! It's indeed wonderful to see Steve can handle that sambal bilis and ikan bilis. A big applause to you, Steve. Guess they used good quality ikan bilis. Good review, guys.
u guys are undoubtly Malaysian sweetheart bloggers, Ivana being from Indonesia, our Malaysian sister makes it even more sweet. You are always welcome to ur part time home!
0:21 - have you tried that Samudera Patin place yet? The dish on the signboard looks like Ikan Patin Masak Lemak Cili Padi, which you'd normally find in Pahang (the famous place is by the river, near the Temerloh bus terminal).
A spoonful of NICE nasi lemak should have: - nasi lemak - a bit of sambal - a piece of ikan bilis - a fried peanut - a bit of rendang gravy - a bit of egg (both yellow & white) MARVELLOUS!!!❤
The best part of the chicken is the thigh (peha). Succulent, juicy & soft! The one that Ivana had was the dried part. The fried chicken at Village Park is actually the thigh! Ask for ‘peha’ guys!
Never been sambal belacan served with Nasi Lemak 😁..just sambal nasi emak itself will do.. I wonder why Wanjo never have peanuts and kangkong (water spinach).. those make it more authentic Malay nasi lemak..
Taste is subjective but I find a lot of versions of nasi lemak available has different attributes. I personally enjoy the diversity in nasi lemak styles in Malaysia. Wanjo is great it’s tasty, the restaurant is efficient and variety of side dishes, for those who prefer less spicy (in fact sweet) sambal, Wanjo is great. Village park nasi lemak takes a pranakan twist to their nasi lemak game, with great fried chicken and sweet styled sambal. Nasi lemak burung hantu is the latest great nasi lemak spot, I’d recommend it to you for the spicy sambal (great kick in it), basmati fragrant coconut rice and great side dishes.
Sambal belacan is the raw sambal Sambal for nasi lemak.. usually we call sambal tumis. Which we cooked And there are many type of rendang in Malaysia. They are diferent taste among the countries.
Hahaha. I just went there 2 days ago for dinner.. good nasi lemak 👍. Opposite there’s a restaurant kak som serves kelantanese cuisine. Recommend to try too
Infront wanjo nasi lemak you can try lontong alfiyah just inside stable steak ..only morning they sell..8 am until 11...lontong ,pegedil, rendang daging,..also try kuih lopez with gula melaka sugar...very nice... Alfiyah lontong just beside kak som...
Yeah when Ivana was cutting the chicken, i can tell it's dry. Usually, vendors like these don't make good fried chicken breast, that's why it's always better to opt for dark meat like drumstick or thigh.
The traditional architecture of houses on stilts ...built to improve Ventilation : need ro have movements of air across the house, top, inside and underneath to cool off from the hot weather . Yes...prevention from flood water , back then also from wild animals. Yes true Ivana, 'bawah rumah' or the space beneath the house function as Storage, Garage and rest area For male guests, they can sit there without going into the house where the ladies are. It is actually more prctical to hve our houses on stilts in this climate and landscape But modernism and technology have changed everything. Now, everyone suffers tremendously when theres flood because all houses are on ground.
ikan bilis has a lot of grade and type .... in sabah there a lot of of type you can buy .... the ikan bilis they use seem in top grade and quite big and they cook it properly so it stay crispy

Nak rasa nasi lemak original sebenar datang lah negeri johor..ia asli dengan sambal tumis bawang ikan bilis di buat dengan manual seperti zaman atok atok kita dulu..
For the fried chicken I would say village park in Damansara utama (uptown), for the traditional and simple type I've got too many to list, but typically tends to me a mak cik by the side of the road, for a bit of a nicer setting with surprisingly good nasi lemak is house + co in Bangsar shopping centre, and for the overall best nasi lemak, I gotta say hands down the one my mom makes 😅
3:08 there's still a lady who's the owner of the house living there, she open the house for people to come see the traditional house in the middle of the city at day free of charge, of course you can't go inside the house😂 since she's still living there but you can go around the house and see how the architecture of the past still standing there despite the tall and big building surrounding it, the lady usually be in the booth in front of the house when she's open the house for visit, i saw her in some RU-vidr video and she told him herself that she's the owner and she open it for free for people to come and look at the house 14:13 i think the chicken that's you got is kind of last batch chicken😅, it means the chicken got fried maybe in the afternoon but you come at night so the chicken become cold and harder to chew😅, every stall chicken are like that, you kind of hit or miss if you come at the wrong time, the best time are when a new batch of fried chicken just be put at the counter 😋, and yes the sambal bilis are anchovy sambal which is the original sambal of nasi lemak, ohh and i think why you like the fried anchovies because the dry anchovies the wanjo restaurant use are a high grade one, you kind of know how good the grade is from the long and clean yellowish anchovies with no black lines on the bodies, high grade anchovies usually have moderate salty taste to it compared to lower grade😂
She also runs a parking lot in the compound of the house. She sits in the booth n charges each car that parks in her compound. I'm sure u noticed the large amount of cars in front of her house, right?
#JetFam Tell us about the worst jet lag you've ever experienced. Where were you flying from and to? How long did it last? Is it true that jet lag is always worse when you fly eastward?
Sambal in nasi lemak is not the same with regular raw sambal like sambal belacan...its more like a gravy..you need it in every bite...you need more that one spoon man
